- Jarhead085, on 02/12/2008, -1/+87Ever heard of monoprice.com?
- LightSpeed4, on 02/12/2008, -8/+84why is there a link to blogspam jizzmodo and not directly to the amazon cable page? ***** annoying.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -6/+67*writes the word MONSTER* on it, their, now its a $100.00 cable
- TheVigilante, on 02/12/2008, -1/+45HDMI is digital. It either works or it doesn't. Paying outlandish prices for a digital cable is incredibly idiotic.
- capiCrimm, on 02/12/2008, -7/+48I've gotten them for free from random peoples houses at parties...
- cyrix, on 02/12/2008, -0/+39You summamabitch. I was wondering where that ***** thing went.
- Coven, on 02/12/2008, -0/+36tell him he's not sticking it far enough up his ass
- Andytom, on 02/12/2008, -5/+39The only problem is that it isn't as good as a monster cable which are worth sooooo much more.
\sarcasm - i4mt3hwin, on 02/12/2008, -1/+33The only thing i'd pay more than $2 for a cable for is the quality of the cable. No, i'm not talking about the signal quality -- but the actual thickness of the cable and how durable it is. I have a chinchilla that likes to eat threw thin wires when no one is looking!
- Birdoftruth, on 02/12/2008, -3/+35I got one before for $1 on amazon.
- gjbrown, on 02/12/2008, -3/+34Their who?
- crapmatic, on 02/12/2008, -2/+28The guy at Best Buy says that cable ain't got good bass response.
- NathanMahdavi, on 02/12/2008, -0/+21no. they sell non-working cables.
- zengonzo, on 02/12/2008, -0/+18Good point. I'll sell you my $2 cables at 100x markup, and then you can feel better about your purchase.
- bonjovisucks, on 02/12/2008, -0/+18Exactly, yet another reason why Gizmodo is a bunch of dicks that don't ever figure anything out until 2 years later.
- smackafiyah, on 02/12/2008, -1/+19You mean to tell me those monster gold HDMI cables I see at the stores are a lie?
- skyshock1, on 02/12/2008, -2/+19Bypass blogspam here - http://www.amazon.com/Super-Resolution-Cable-DVI-G ...
- HonoredMule, on 02/12/2008, -0/+16Well, son of a bitch. I figg'er if'n we gonna correct English, maybe we's ought'a be correctin' it to...English.
Really, wouldn't 'correct' pseudo-English be kind of an oxymoron? - RyeBrye, on 02/12/2008, -0/+16I hope you were joking, because you just sounded really really stupid.
HDMI = digital signal. The wire just has to be able to send 0's and 1's... Unless you have some kind of homebrew radio transmitter sitting next to your TV, it's unlikely that you will be able to have enough noise to reduce the ability of a wire to adequately transmit 0's and 1's over a short range...
Wait... What am I talking about? - how about this... I'll sell you an HDMI cable that I will guarantee you will work for your setup and I will only charge you $540 for it. (It will, of course, be drop-shipped from an amazon reseller) - emt41, on 02/12/2008, -1/+16It doesnt matter, digital is digital. It either works or it doesn't. There is no in between.
- aoru, on 02/12/2008, -0/+15I just bought one for $129.99 at Best Buy. It ate my cat.
- babar77, on 02/12/2008, -0/+14Please don't fall for the "cables should be expensive crap" I am an EE with 10 years of experience. I can tell you Monster cable is not worth the money, and even sometimes performs worse than a $2 cable. For instance their "Triple-way grounding" or whatever the hell they called that crap actually rolled off high frequencies because of the massive amounts of stray capacitance they introduced in the cable.
Bottom line, this is a digital signal and the cable RARELY moves around unlike a rig for a concert tour that sits on the back of a truck getting vibrated to all hell for 1000 miles between each gig. If the $2 cable passes video and audio - it works and is all you need. - thefandango, on 02/12/2008, -0/+13on the bright side, with that habit you can have barbeque'd chinchilla for dinner eventually.

- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+13STFU Scifag... no wait, sorry
It's either going to work or not, digital is 1 or 0, on or off, there is no degraded image. - skyshock1, on 02/12/2008, -0/+13*THERE.
- CarzorStelatis, on 02/12/2008, -3/+16Stupid Digg with its lack of a delete button. Bury please.
- crapmatic, on 02/12/2008, -0/+12Tsk, tsk... on Digg, we don't do stuff like link directly to sources.
- felderado, on 02/12/2008, -2/+14cables that carry digital signals do not have different qualities. it either works or it doesnt.
- coheedcollapse, on 02/12/2008, -1/+13"adding that the cheapest he'd ever seen was around seven times that amount"
The most I've paid for HDMI is 99 cents plus $3 shipping and that was also straight from Amazon (right around when PS3 came out). This is still a great deal though.
Also, what's with stories hitting the front page with zero comments today. I've seen at least three. - ganlet, on 02/12/2008, -0/+12I feel your pain, I have a 7 month old kitten that goes to town on my sound system wires when I'm not at home.
- LaRue05, on 02/12/2008, -1/+13Yes, simply put they are. Digital is Digital, they either work or they don't. There's no difference between brands.
- unluckier, on 02/12/2008, -0/+12I remember CIrcuit City having an HDTV "starter kit" on sale.
- An HDMI cable
- A power strip
- Some Windex
... all for the bargain price of $250! Highway robbery. - quomen, on 02/12/2008, -2/+13This is stupid. Just go to Amazon or Monoprice.com
Bury this *****. - emt41, on 02/12/2008, -2/+13a comment from the blog, I think some people still don't understand digital cables.

'better' cables will allow less interference between devices because most of the cheap cables use less shielding in them. 'better' cables also allow for longer runs due resistance in the wires being lower than the cheap cables.
With that said, you can use these just fine as a previous poster noted: "Digital is digital"
So long as you know cheap has it's limitations. - MattB123, on 02/12/2008, -0/+11Monoprice FTW! They were selling cheap HDMI cables when everyone else was still charging >$50 and sometimes >$100.
Their house brand HDMI switches are good too. (no affiliation, just a happy customer) - DeadlyAlpaca, on 02/12/2008, -0/+11Monoprice.com is one of the greatest secrets of the internet. I refuse to buy cables anywhere else.
I almost lost it on BestBuy when they conned my sister into buying a 130$ HDMI cable (after pressuring her with a 200$ one) when she bought a TV there. She took the cable back the next day and we spent a few dollars getting her one from monoprice. - LaRue05, on 02/12/2008, -0/+10You sir are an idiot.... HDMI is no different cable to cable... as the poster above states, digital is digital. There is no inbetween.
- shiftless, on 02/12/2008, -0/+10Amazon Prime has officially turned me into a zombified button-clicking buy-bot
- kidcodea, on 02/12/2008, -2/+12given the context, i think we do.
- BoneheadFarker, on 02/12/2008, -0/+10Yes, cheap has limitations. But going the 3 feet from your console to your TV doesn't require $100 cables, as some companies would lead you to believe...
- DangerMouse9, on 02/12/2008, -1/+11Maybe he can spend that $98 he saved to learn the proper usage of: there, their, and they're.
- gremos, on 02/12/2008, -0/+9Nope
- Otto, on 02/12/2008, -0/+9I far prefer monoprice, because not only do they make really quality and solid cables, they're dirt cheap. You can also get different lengths (the 1.5 foot HDMI's come in handy as interconnects), colors, etc. Cheaper in bulk too if you need several cables.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+9Digital is digital after all.
- RidesAPaleHorse, on 02/12/2008, -2/+10Yes, it's all hype. The signal is digital. It's either there, or it's not. A small amount of noise on the line will either make your picture pixelate, or it will do nothing. I have never seen an HDMI cable introduce any issues, although there is a small chance it could happen if it's made poorly.
I always buy the $-$7 cabled from monoprice.com, and I have never had a problem. - inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8Theres no difference between that and the cables that are marked up by like 100%
- HonoredMule, on 02/12/2008, -1/+9Sure, but price + brand targeting != quality.
- CarzorStelatis, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8Who has their computer 50 feet (the distance at which this starts to matter) away from their monitor? Even in a home theatre setup I find that hard to believe.
- drmangrum, on 02/12/2008, -1/+9Digital = you get a signal or you don't. If there is degradation, you get all or nothing. That's how digital works.
Your CD's and DVD's will be crystal clear or or skips, it won't give garbled playback.
If you listen to satellite radio, have satellite TV, or digital cable , you either get the signal or you get nothing.
The cables DON'T MATTER. Either you get the signal or you don't. -
