- IphtashuFitz, on 10/30/2009, -1/+57It is absolutely mind boggling how quickly Motorola got left in the proverbial dust when it comes to cell phones. After the release of the RAZR it seems that they suffered a severe case of corporate brain freeze and focused exclusively on re-imaging that model while Nokia, Erricson, Apple, Palm, RIM, etc. continued to innovate. It certainly will be interesting to see if they can recover from that huge mistake.
- duke_nate, on 10/30/2009, -0/+43(Waves Hand) No, im pretty sure this IS the droid you are looking for.
- drGt1987, on 10/30/2009, -0/+30Oh I almost forgot that they still exist :)
I hope they can come back with something refreshing, they had coolest cellphones, once upon a time... - StupotAce, on 10/30/2009, -3/+31Will it save them? If more people are like me, then yes.
- omae, on 10/30/2009, -3/+28Wait, this isnt the droid I am looking for
- immatellyouwhat, on 10/30/2009, -1/+20***** YOU DARPHYN!!! AND ***** YOU WHALE!!!
- Mayday408, on 10/30/2009, -4/+20Maybe the 'coolest' cellphone back in the day, but the RAZR is a piece of *****. It did not stand the test of time. Slow menus, buttons get broken.
***** you RAZR - madk, on 10/30/2009, -1/+16Everything you've seen on the major sites are from final builds of the phone. There doesn't appear to be any Verizon branding other than a few apps that can be obtained through the Marketplace. It scares me to say this...but Verizon may have gotten this right finally.
- smacksaw, on 10/30/2009, -0/+13It provided a stay of execution.
- robojerk, on 10/30/2009, -0/+11Spec sheet comparing Pre, iPhone and all the new Android phone (including Droid)

I didn't compile this. - DJBONEZ, on 10/30/2009, -0/+9Yea, once apon a time back in the day when Nextel was around. I still have and use my i880 and love it (although I will soon be switching to a HTC Hero or HTC HD2 if it ever releases in the USA. But anyway......I miss Nextel and Motorola's genius.
Nextel|Done. - gumby013, on 10/30/2009, -2/+11They do a lot more than just phones. They'll be fine.
- BossKey, on 10/30/2009, -1/+10Imagine what the state of the cell phone industry would be today if the iPhone had never happened.
- CBKBAMF, on 10/30/2009, -1/+10Add HTC to that list, please.
- chazuk, on 10/30/2009, -0/+8http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ijAgr7v8Mo
"Android 2.0 Eclair running on my rooted G1 =D"
What what? - ketedford, on 10/30/2009, -0/+8Move along, move along.
- Neiby, on 10/31/2009, -0/+7Same here. I'm dumping my iPhone and getting a Droid the day it's released.
- ohearn, on 10/30/2009, -0/+7Don't believe the G1 has the internal memory to install 2.0. If the size of 1.6 had not gone down, they were saying for a while 1.5 was teh last version of the formware the G1 could handle. As is it looks like 1.6 is as high as us G1 owners are going.
- GMH24, on 10/30/2009, -1/+6Agreed, this thing has some nice specs, but it's not going to win any fashion shows.
- Fastmower, on 10/30/2009, -3/+8I cant wait for android 2.0 to come to the g1 and the mytouch!
- MScrip, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5>> "The same except no iPhones?"
NO! Would Palm have ever retired the Treo? Would we have a touchscreen Blackberry?
It would be a bizarre world where the MotoQ would be the best smartphone Motorola made... - DJBONEZ, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5***** you RAZR and ***** you Verison for accepting that GUI and hardware for a junky phone.
That may have actually been the downfall of Moto. - starbird, on 10/31/2009, -0/+5I don't see it in the comments here, but is the droid SERIOUSLY only going to allow 256 MB for apps? What is the 16 GB SD card for, just pictures and music? If so, then this is a big goof
From --> http://bit.ly/3EI20I
"The Droid ships with a 512 MB ROM which contains only 256 MB available for app storage. Google does not support installing apps to the SD card (and likely never will), so developers are limited in what they can create."
Now I am a HUGE Apple fanboy, been using Macs as my primary computer since System 7, and love my first gen iPod touch. I have continued to wait on an iPhone for Verizon to get it, and have been very intrigued by this Droid. It would, at least, get me through the inevitable 20 months until Verizon does get an iPhone (I think we all agree it will not be att exclusively for more than one new iteration, right)? But that limitation on the apps? I'll stick with the 16 or 32 gigs non removable and non removable battery.... - adeelarshad82, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4wow it actually took me a while to scroll to the end of this list. oh and btw, i didn't click on any of those links and i'm pretty sure most of the other people won't either. might as well stop spamming.
- IphtashuFitz, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4And after about a year mine couldn't keep a charge worth a damn. I'd be recharging it almost constantly, and that's with replacing the battery multiple times.
- McBadass, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4That's good to hear. I haven't invested in a Verizon smart phone since the XV6800 which was pretty badass, but only because I cooked it: http://www.ppckitchen.org If I wouldn't have done third party apps/hacks, I would never have been updated with the latest versions of WinMo, among other cool features I was missing out on.
I certainly hope Verizon does good by this. I'd love to rejoin their service if they can offer me a decent smart phone. Their services is leaps and bounds better than AT&T where I'm at. - dagamer34, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4According to leaked documents, all ads up until the launch are teaser ads and not real ads. Besides, I think initial ads were targeted at us geeks who will go spread the good word about the Droid. And then when it launches, you'll have ads targeted at "normal people".
Suffice to say, if Verizon sticks Google Maps Navigation into an ad, it's game over on the spot. That is something I think everyone can understand. - dagamer34, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4You don't like the keyboard? Don't use it. The Droid is still within 1mm thickness of the iPhone so it really doesn't matter.
- smacksaw, on 10/30/2009, -1/+5It's not crippled. In fact, they sell their VZ Navigator and you can use the turn-by-turn Google Maps for free. They are leaving a lot of profitable proprietary money on the table with this thing.
- runeasgar, on 10/30/2009, -3/+6Did the Pre save Palm?
- thrashertm, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3Everyone is so busy circle-jerking around the Droid and comparing it to the their Iphones, that they did not notice that Motorola is actually surviving right now WITHOUT the Droid.
"In the three-month period that ended Oct. 3, Motorola earned $12 million, or a penny per share. That compares with a loss of $397 million, or 18 cents per share, in the same quarter a year ago"

- CBKBAMF, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3You'll be waiting a long time.
Unless someone develops a stable/fast ROM for it. - waspbr, on 10/31/2009, -1/+4you are FUGLY!!!
- Spire3660, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3Really? They invented the Star Tach and the Razr, even the brick phone. These were EXTREMELY popular designs and defined their generation of phones.
- kjones555, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3What phone are you two looking at? This thing is gorgeous! I mean the black and gold compliments each other perfectly! The phone is absolutely sleek and I can see me losing myself in that 3.7" touchscreen. It's luxurious looking, it's slim, and it finally gives Android a phone that looks just as high quality as the iphone and palm pre. But that's just my opinion.
- vpshockwave, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3I remember flashing my razr to the alltel firmware because verizon's was so terrible.
- jcaino, on 10/30/2009, -3/+6The RAZR sucked too. They haven't had a decent phone since the v710/e815...
- Shawn4168, on 10/30/2009, -2/+4cool story bro
- hayden.evans, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2We would be stuck with the same piece of ***** phones we had 4 years ago like the RAZR. Apple just set a fire under everyone's ass to make quality products, how is that ever a bad thing. Quite honestly, it is disgusting how careless phone companies before apple were. All of the technology existed well before the iPhone, if phone companies gave two ***** about making a better product, maybe they could see themselves at the top instead of bottom feeding off the iPhone's success and making ***** look-a-likes. Well done apple for having the balls to take a chance with something and changing the entire phone industry because of it.
- timbtwisted, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2I'm not sure it's make or break point for motorola, but this phone wouldn't save any company. Not only are their commercials stupid (the general public has no idea what they are about), but this phone is just plain ugly. I think it will be popular because it's on verizon and their users are starved for a new smart phone not RIM based. I think the palm pre is the best phone that has hit the market that actually can compete with the iPhone. Say what you will about Apple, but that phone was an industry game changer, which is great for us all. I'm looking forward to more android love with some decent handsets.
- MWeather, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2"It's something I can't live without, and the more time it saves me (convenience, speed, ease of use) the more time I can invest on other ventures."
Like Digg. - Neiby, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2You're correct, so I don't know why you're being dugg down. Verizon is moving away from the cripple-and-charge model. I've read everything I can find about the Droid and all indications are that Verizon hasn't crippled a single thing.
- JayD16, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2As far as I know, it has multitouch but it doesn't have some of the neat things that brings you. Theres no pinch, for example.
- kjones555, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2Agreed, the iphone definitely improved the phone industry. We've seen a ton of "iphone killer" wannabees over the past few years sparking a touchscreen revolution and everyone having an app store of some sort.
- tmonsta1, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2it's not the product that bothers me... it's the Apple control freak mentality, telling customers what they can and can't put on their own damn phones, and their nickel and dime for an already overpriced phone, and now it's overpriced apps
but hey, if you love apple so much that you think they should be able to cut off a major web development tool (flash) so they can make a buck selling you an app that does exactly the same thing that you could have gotten for free.... go ahead and burn your money
for what they charge, you should get the internet... all of it
not just the parts Apple can't make a buck from - professorzu, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1I laugh everytime I see the words "iPhone Killer"....250 megs for apps come on. Absolutely awful design.
- robojerk, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1And Apple is also being sued for the patent.
http://www.emc.com.tw/eng/news_1_1.asp?id=71 - adeelarshad82, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1two things,
1. the links got removed
2. "link scoring"? - kjones555, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Well, it put Palm back in front of the public with a sexy device and a killer OS that will be on other Palm phones. May be too early to tell, but I'd say that the Pre put new life into Palm just as the Droid will do Motorola (And I guess the Cliq is good for T-mo users...)
