- Livewired, on 10/10/2007, -0/+44One thing's for sure... we are definitely obsessed with red and blue LED's.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35wow 6 monitors.. that guy must be a master debater.
- sargentcrackers, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33buried for EVAH in title.
- Cerberus047, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30I love these kinds of contest... but at the same time, i hate them /jealous
- kingkilr, on 10/10/2007, -4/+27Buried for "EVAH".
- Randinn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23Look, it's a geek 'Who's got the bigger one'.
- JorgeGT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20I love how people has tons of money for that rigs but they use a cheap, grainy, miserable camera...
- flamingmb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21you would think that by now people would realize that leds and rope lights do not add power to your computer. The same applies to riced out cars.
- IamZed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I use the working one to help me fix what I did to the broken one. Then reverse the process.
- goblindegook, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13You know, you don't have to take *everything* with you . . .
- Ocelot13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13they need more stickers. thats where the real power comes from
- thesparrowband, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13most of these are DAWs (digital audio workstations) or video editing setups
- ryodoan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Ok grandpa.
- D3koy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12As real as they're ever gonna get...
- Vazelos, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Porn must look and sound real in some of these systems....
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9You mean the best for YOU is the one you can take to a lan party. Not everyone goes to those things you know.
- iDiggIt42, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11I've never got the point of having multiple separate computers (not multiple monitors) at one desk. Anyone care to enlighten me?
- earthtoandy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9on the otherhand, if they are aiming for a migraine they are right on track.
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I've seen better.
- JohnnyBoy117, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10EVGA*
- jonr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Meh. Less is more. Once computer, and one large screen. Keep it Zen.
- Randinn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8No one cares.
- dopesick, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9most of those setups were an absolute mess. The guy who has all the PC gear, and the "studio" setup, I'll bet has noise issues. And to those with 6 monitors, seriously just, just how much pr0n and "multitasking" do you really do.
There can be much said about "minimalistic" approach to things, and I think PC's are an area where simple can be of much greater value.
Don't go thinking i'm 100% minimalist either, I have dual monitors, I game, and I do alot of audio related work on my PC, but sometimes, too much is indeed too much. But to each is their own. - Klarth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Actually, we usually compete for smaller gadgets. :]
- drizzlelicious, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7http://gizmodo.com/photogallery/readerscomputerrig ...
Seems like the guy just took a bunch of the monitors at his office and put them together
I think the red blue one wins, nothing else really comes close. He's even got a tall screen in there - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Geeks are the biggest hazard to the environment, not soccer moms and their suvs.
- MODAT, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8thats a fire hazard if i've ever seen one
- franklymister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Here's your winner: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/roc/archives/workst ...
- Subvexer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ah, I see you're familiar with the real application of multi-monitor setups; porn
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Very minimalistic.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4segphault.jpg looks like the segment fault will be in the guy's neck after a while.
- eatbeefjerky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4When I think "awesome rig", I don't think "zomg my monitors are an extension of my cocklolz", I think kickass specs. Anyone could easily stick 5 different computers outside the frame of the picture and have a monitor connected to each and say LOOK AT ME, I HAVE 5 MONITORS LOL! Seriously, having 3 different sized monitors and a ***** ton of seizure-causing lights doesn't make your rig good, much less awesome. Let's see some specs on these machines, then judge.
- gregm11, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6The first one looks almost romantic. I don't need to ask what he uses his computer for.
- iashraf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7It should have been EVARR!!1
- Harbinger67, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5To be honest, your case looks like *****. A windowed and lit case does nothing for your system at the end of the day.
Now, a 37" monitor, on the other hand, is something to be proud of. Too bad you don't have pics of it. - jackyyll, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The red LED's are 3x faster too.
- dasdef, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3could that website load any freaking slower?
- tektalk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The title should have been " Gizmodo's Great Geek Pissing Contest."
- keyo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Fools who don't use linux or leopard have to buy monitors instead of just adding more workspaces.
- eatbeefjerky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Possibly someone who wants to run OSX (for all the apparent superior video/graphics/audio editing capabilities it has) and/or Linux and/or Windows and/or insert other OS here at the same time. Whatever makes you happy, I guess.
- primal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well, considering a lot of the setups shown are video and/or audio studio setups, it's helpful to have separate systems so that you can continue to do real work while rendering and converting media. If they are developers or serious gamers, other systems can be used as servers. There are just some situations where another completely separate system does make you much more productive.
- Brandoskey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4those aren't rigs as much as they're peoples work/computer stations
a rig is usually the computer itself, and most of those people had ***** rigs, ugly cases and the like. - rolfeman02, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I beg to differ. I added some chrome windshield wipers to my car and it has never run faster. The chrome reduces the friction from light thereby increasing the aerodynamics by 10%.
- okebinda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2How are you gonna have an array of 6+ monitors and not change the default Windows XP background?
- RubberBinder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I like the case, but way too many lights.
- digghalo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He who dies with the most toys wins, I guess. I find it interesting that no one is running Ubuntu Gusty with desktop effects. I prefer to have the toys inside the computer.
