- stryker2you, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43I don't know what they are afraid of, but that is one really cool house.
- 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40Definitely interesting, but I wouldn't use the word beautiful.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33ROFL, i love how he has a 1-ton blast door on the ***** bathroom. Pull my finger?
- quarsaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30There's plenty of room to store all your crazy!
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Perfect for when someone set us up the bomb.
- straxus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Um.. Yes?
- aximbigfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12wow, trying to embed ads in your post, you sir are a moron.
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11http://www.silohome.com/
I have always liked that one. Both this one and the one from the story have appeared on TV a few times. I looked into buying the silo home just for the hell of it but it's $2.5 million price is way out of my range. - pu-z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The guy who built it (Kenley L. Snyder) seems to be a survialist of the cooler kind. Not the Michigan Militia kind. He has written a lengthy piece on the fortress here: http://dnausers.d-n-a.net/dnetIULU/misc/0390.txt
Very cool, but I feel sorry for the one who are so afraid they have to do thse kinds of things... - gabeN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10one word: PARANOID!
Either he knows something we don't, or he thinks he does... - ajamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Sounds like it was built in 1999
- satansbanjo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It would have to be used for some sort of crime, otherwise you're just wasting it. Growing drugs, developing weapons, illegal gene splicing - whatever
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Oooooh..... That's a dream home!", said Natascha Kampusch.
(offered by the austrian association for the promotion of bad taste jokes). - wmoisis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yeah, I bet there is a problem with the cement or the stability of the house. If the cement started to crack, it would cost tens of thousands of dollars to repair, so selling is probably the better option. I mean really; it does seem suspiciously cheap for it sheer size and the fact that it is so well known.
- cmyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9We all know why they build it... HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR Y2K CRISIS NOW?!?!!?
Anyway, it's ugly and almost looks institutional. Should have gone post-modern and minimalist with all that concrete. - i440, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15I was about to say "who on earth would want to live in some remote area of Washington?"
But then I realized that it is directly south of the U.S.-Canadian border, which I'm sure will be quite popular with the digglets. - dinobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I actually find it beautiful~! It has that suburban look to it, at least what's visible of it.
All I know is that I'd stock on guns on every sub-level, just in case I get attacked by those creatures from Tremors! - kingo55, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Nothing a bunker buster couldn't devour.

It is spam for you plugged your own article. You could have just linked the site, but no, you plugged your own digg article. Your need for "credit" or the front page makes it spam.
Cool house anyway. - SpoBo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9the perfect home for child molesters I'd say...
- hack58, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What happens if it floods? You would have four floors of aquarium!
- TimDub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6+digg and bookmarked just in case i ever win the lottery.
- punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6No tinfoil hats?! Pfft...
- catastrophee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This reminds me of that one movie "blast from the past" with brendan fraser, where they have the underground living area. meh
- herlehy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is the house that has been on a few TV shows. The one that comes to my mind is "Secret Passages" on The History Channel. I can't believe that they are selling the house. They all seemed like they loved it so much in the TV show and that they would never sell it. I wish I had an extra $600K sitting around right about now...
- n0sferatu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Am I the only one that thinks this is a little creepy? I don't know, the now-free kidnapping victim in Vienna is on my mind...
- garethevans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Total of 3500 sq ft - not bad for just under 600k.
- thatchimp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7In one of the pics from the "interior" section, it totally looks like the current owner is pissing in a urinal. After a second look, it's obviously a sink (I hope), but still.. kind of an akward picture for a page pimping your home.
http://www.oneofakindhouse.com/images/0088-451x300.jpg - MikeMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Have you ever tried washing your hands in a sink?
- wjhicks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Was this house featured in a Penn and Teller ***** episode? Seems kinda familiar...
- AssultMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder if you could outlast the initial phase of a zombie plague in there...
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This reminds me of the Resident Evil Mansion somehow, with the secret labs underneath.
- omarqaz7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4... Hardware?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5OUTER HEAVEN
- samstafford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have wanted one of these my entire life.
- rodball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3First, thanks to all of you who dugg this. It's hard enough even to submit non-dupe stories, much less get to the front page. (BTW - I have no affiliation w/ the house whatsoever. Just found it interesting.)
Hardware was my best guess. I know stories like this make their way to digg all the time, but there didn't seem to be a category for it. I thought about 'design' or 'offbeat news.' Maybe I should have gone with 'environment' or 'general sciences.' - kepeli999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I've always thought nuclear bomb shelters were stupid. Would you really want to survive a nuclear holocaust?
- onimusha115, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I acutally like this idea, I have thought of similar plans for a house myself. Not that I have the cash to build one, but if I did it would be cool. I always figured that the house could look modest from the outside but be huge on the inside. I also thought that heating and cooling costs would be minimal since the majority of the house is under ground. I guess the downside is no windows so lack of natural light, but thats not a big concern of mine. I'm usually awake when its dark out anyways.
- Yage2006, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I bet homes like these will become quite popular in the us.
Already have the government to help entice/scare people into buying them. - Naqaj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Paranoia, anyone?
- sneed009, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It's neat. I suppose it's good to have, just in case... you never know!
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Command center? Bomb shelter supplies? I guess they sell the house because they moved into the loony bin?
- dizzybastard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2now all they need is a interior designer to give them a total make over of the underground part...
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Tocard chill out: All he's saying is that you should have linked straight to the article instead of to the digg page for it.
- SocketNine3Nine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Something is up with this house, its being sold at a low price and it seems creepy. With the secret rooms, I won't be surprised if some one found dead bodies down there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1***** now that silo home is something i'd describe as "beautiful".
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3And NOT ONE pic of the above ground area. . .
- MyDigitalSin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How depressing is that? No natural light in 4 stories of your house??
- anvilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Another background article:
http://news.bellinghamherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050829/COLUMNISTS01/508290313 - JackHallows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like a bigass elaborate and overdone basement to me... o_O
