- and101, on 11/16/2009, -0/+58I hear Duke Nukem Forever is being released at the same time to take advantage of the high-end graphics card.
- nmffffd9, on 11/16/2009, -5/+50High-end graphics with "stunning resolution" and a 2 hour battery life.
- AdamFromMyspace, on 11/16/2009, -3/+38GREATER resolution than the iPhone/iPod Touch? Has such a device ever existed?
- camaroz06, on 11/16/2009, -3/+31"...that will offer picture at a "stunning resolution" greater than the iPhone and iPod touch. "
I really dont know what to say about that statement...a STUNNING resolution GREATER THAN the iPhone/iPod Touch?!? I would hope so.
A Kindle/ebook killer?!?!?! I highly doubt it, what chance does apple have of letting the fabled tablet go for under $300? It would have to be priced around a Kindle/Nook type product and I don't see that happening. - serif69, on 11/16/2009, -2/+28Honestly, has anyone ever been *right* with rumored Apple products more than about 2 days before their introduction? I'm a fan of Apple and everything, but the speculation is just absurd. Especially when so-called "analysts" guide the stock price as a result.
- schemax, on 11/16/2009, -1/+26wow even greater than minblowing 480x320? that sure needs some high-end graphics ^^
- DaviDTC, on 11/16/2009, -2/+19Another tablet rumor?
This is the first apple tablet rumor to make the front page on digg.
http://digg.com/apple/Apple_Files_MORE_Patents_for ... Feb. 3, 2006
Actually that is as far back as Digg will search. Probably had more considering it says "more". - Papercraft, on 11/16/2009, -7/+23My iPhone begs to differ.
- milwaukeesbeast, on 11/16/2009, -1/+15and its going to have 3g so you can browse the web at great speeds like its 1996
- borez, on 11/16/2009, -0/+10Actually living up to your digg name.
- vman81, on 11/16/2009, -3/+12 "stunning resolution" greater than the iPhone and iPod touch"
OMG, maybe VGA, or even 800x600 if they are pushing it - Tyr7BE, on 11/16/2009, -5/+13What difference does a graphics card make in image resolution? If you do up your software right it might help accelerate rendering, but your screen is what's going to give you "stunning resolution".
- digitalpencil, on 11/16/2009, -0/+8i agree..
Books FTW! - zephc, on 11/16/2009, -10/+17If you've paid attention to any Apple products, you know they won't suffer poor battery life in their portables (for better or worse)
- ahhell, on 11/16/2009, -10/+17....all yours for a low low price of $1999.99!!!
That's under $2000 folks!!!! - FritoPendejo, on 11/16/2009, -1/+7Actually Duke Nukem Forever is only being released for The Phantom.
- bsonline, on 11/16/2009, -0/+6I'll pay for it instead of my iPhone, and use VOIP via 3g and bluetooth. This would probably make me less available, which I am currently considering as a feature.
"Oh, man, I'm sorry guy. I thought this VOIP thing would make me more available, but it seems like no one can get in touch with me. ***** contract, I'm stuck like this now. Just leave a voicemail (transcribed and emailed via gVoice) and I'll get back to you ASAP!" - zephc, on 11/16/2009, -4/+10Really? Mine doesn't
- wolfing, on 11/16/2009, -0/+5it doesn't suck, its price sucks
- waspbr, on 11/16/2009, -1/+6Right , powerful video card, is apple going to sell oven mitts as an accessory?
- digitalpencil, on 11/16/2009, -2/+7you do?! thanks for the insight, the rest of us were lost without it..
- monkeyrun, on 11/16/2009, -0/+4did any of you actually read the article ...
- inactive, on 11/16/2009, -1/+5Care to elaborate?
- inactive, on 11/16/2009, -4/+8 "Analysts and investors are saying that this device could revolutionize the handheld world in the same way the the iPhone changed the smartphone market."
How? Honestly, what will the "tablet" offer that either the App Store or Snow Leopard can't offer? Honestly, the tablet looks to be pretty stupid. It probably will either be too big to carry around (might as well pay extra and take a laptop like a Macbook) or have nothing more than another version of the App Store (if you're going to get an Apple product for the App Store, might as well get the machine that implements it best, the iPhone/iPod touch). I honestly don't know why people are so excited about this. - UK31337, on 11/16/2009, -1/+5There was a supposed "leaked video" of it on Engadget a while ago.
It looked like a big iPod Touch (the camera was quite close but I'd say it looked like maybe a 8-10" screen), except it had a standard OSX style desktop. It was running App Store apps, and they ran in their own separate windows and could be dragged around and rearranged on-screen.
No idea if it was fake or not but it certainly looked pretty plausible given the other rumours about it.
But yeah, chances are it'll cost double what you'd expect and have dodgy battery life. - Cougarcat, on 11/16/2009, -0/+4If Apple were to coerce Textbook publishers to join iTunes, Apple could revolutionize that market just as they have done with music. Imagine renting your textbooks for a semester for cheap and being able to annotate, highlight, search, etc. It would be huge for students.
But I agree, if this uses the App Store, it will be disappointing. - FritoPendejo, on 11/16/2009, -0/+4Yes, we all want one model of everything because we're too stupid to figure out the differences and we all want the same features and same overall price.
- serif69, on 11/16/2009, -1/+5Tons was known about the iPhone because they announced it 6 months before it came out. When it was announced, most of its functionality was a complete surprise. The 3G was a logical progression because it's a cell phone.
- zephc, on 11/16/2009, -2/+6No, I just don't run 3D games 24/7 on it. I keep wifi and 3G on all the time though.
Also, Lowered Expectations was from MadTV, not SNL - MacParrot, on 11/16/2009, -0/+4Which is what makes yet Another Stupid Apple Tablet Speculation Article (ASATSA).
An analyst says it will have a high-end graphics chip replacing every other portable device AND it will walk your dog when your back hurts.
Until Jobs actually walks around on stage holding one up and says "And you buy it today" I won't believe it. And I'll wait until the third gen one comes out most likely anyways. - MacParrot, on 11/16/2009, -0/+4(said in evil mad scientist rising voice) NOT since the DAWN of mankind...ITSELF!, has such a device ever been DREAMED of!
- Homerr, on 11/16/2009, -4/+8Stunning high-end graphics for a Mac = nVidia GeForce 7300 LE
- tomjthayer, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3so not figuratively?
- bsonline, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3That question is answered in a text document on my iTab.
- madwh, on 11/16/2009, -4/+7Hard to believe, Apple hates powerful video cards.
- Orbital101, on 11/16/2009, -1/+4It's a fine distinction, but this wasn't a rumor article. It's a speculation article. Its a bunch of analysts sitting around answering the question "What's the Apple tablet going to be like?"
- digitalpencil, on 11/16/2009, -2/+5rumours of the fabled tablet have been about for many, many years. in fact, it's most likely the sustained interest in this product that has spawned its conception in Cupertino R&D.
Jobs himself has said that ideas for the device have been thrown around before but always tossed out as the market remains nascent and there's still no legitimate purpose for the actual device.
It's a wicked idea but unless it has a decent stylus, packs enough power to run CS (and not on a ***** Atom) and is cheaper than a Cintiq, i won't be buying one.
Tablet PCs are a pain in the ass to use, they seem cool at first but after a while you get pissed off with the fact that you constantly have to lean over the screen at a 45˙ angle while it's sat on your lap. - MacParrot, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3You're thinking of the Google reader.
- FritoPendejo, on 11/16/2009, -1/+4Uhhh, maybe you should sober up before writing posts. First, I think your'e referring to ppi. Second, we're talking about a phone. Did you think I was referring to a theoretical Droid phone with a screen that is twice as big as an iPhone screen?
- Knowa22, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3Your comment needs an 'explanation point.'
- bsonline, on 11/16/2009, -1/+4Honestly, dugg for bad taste.
- tdogg241, on 11/16/2009, -1/+4That's 2 things. I'm demoting you to Captain.
- FritoPendejo, on 11/16/2009, -4/+7Except for iLiver.
- MacParrot, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3@serif
EvilJelloMan (great name BTW) is correct. When Apple actually had their own factories they could keep most this pretty much under wraps. When they were still the "beleagured, about to go out of business according to most analysts" company not as many cared. But between a rising market for Macs, the iPod, and now the iPhone all being made by someone else, Apple can't hold their secrets like they used to. - MonkeyFit, on 11/17/2009, -0/+2That makes no sense. Give the OEM's cheap prices on the low end graphics chips for the laptops, then charge the consumer full price for an upgrade. That way you sell two chips with one computer basically. As I recall it was actually the OEM's fighting it because it meant all sorts of design hassles for them that they were not willing to go through.
- krisrm, on 11/17/2009, -0/+2I applaud your use of awkwardly-placed all-caps emphasis. Well DONE.
- Boofster, on 11/16/2009, -0/+2Looking forward to this. I need a giant iPod Touch.
- iptunnell, on 11/17/2009, -0/+2All of this nay-saying sounds a lot like the iPhone bashing that happened when it launched. Everyone laughed at Jobs when he decided to enter the cell phone market. Guess who's laughing now...
- theundone, on 11/16/2009, -0/+2Would be nice if it was at least a sub $600 device, but I doubt that'll ever happen unless it gets subsidized, but then I won't be able to pay for another contract on top of my iPhone.
- iptunnell, on 11/17/2009, -0/+2I assume you're a Windows biggot. I can relate, I used to be one as well. I managed a team that supported over 20,000 windows desktops/laptops in a large corporate environment, with about 40 Macs thrown in for good measure I LOATHED the Macs! However, I now support more of a mixed environment and decided to embrace the Mac and learn it, however painful that would be. And it was... at first, mostly because of my misguided personal feelings toward it. Turns out, I very rarely turn on my Windows box anymore. Why? Because NOBODY makes a piece of hardware like Apple does (Drobo does come awfully close, though). I've seen it all on the Wintel side, and every piece of Mac gear I've worked on blows them away. I even have a Mac G5 workstation acting as a server that's faster than any Windows server I have, and my Windows servers are monsters!
