I wonder if he used the old hand controlled milling machine in the background of one of the pics... that would be waaaay hardcore - Boredom431, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That thing is sweet! It's like a improved version of the wooden skeleton things you can get in Ikea. I can see myself spending an hour on that thing just to get a position I like.
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I just know that most people here, myself included, would want two and spends hours putting them into positions.
- boxx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's called ARTFORM NO.1
take a look
http://www.zoho.nl/zoho2.html - Azewaldo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I saw this somewhere else, too (on TV?). I think it has over 700 moving parts.
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Holy crap! *gets out a checkbook* Name a price!
- Leonaken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's like a mix between C-3PO and the N5s from I, Robot. That's sweet.
"I am C-3PO, please return to your homes. A curfew is in effect." - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That would do for his resumé!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's the specs:
Height: 16.93” (43 cm)
Weight: 13.2 lb (6 kg)
Number of parts: 920 (of which 101 are found in each hand)
Number of mobile parts: 85
Material: Bronze and stainless steel
Details:
The parts are all handmade. The object comes with a magnetic base which can be de-activated. All joints are adjustable and easy to remodel, allowing the object to take on any position. This offers a challenge for those who continually seek to create a new, authentic, original and unique sculpture.
Exclusivity:
ZOHO ARTFORMS No.1 will be limited to a maximum of 25 original, handmade metal sculptures. - Syrophenikan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That is just flat out incredible. This is the kind of guy who should get an N.E.A. grant (but then again, his art is GOOD so he doesn't need it.)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5How about $37000? That's how much he sold the first one for.
- ZephyrWest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wow, that's incredible. The amount of detail is amazing.
- swifty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I am a cybernetic organism, living tissue over a metal endoskeleton."
Please let me not be the only one who, after checking this out, was reminded of the Terminator? - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Enable referral in Web browser. I had the same problem in Mozilla v1.7.12.
- phantomAI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3imagine a whole army of those...
- Twenty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's downright astounding
- tacom8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2true that, how long before china get a hold of these bad boys for mega-production, man these would sell like hotcakes. that guy could make a fortune in licensing these.
He could even have his own tv show.."Poseable mini robots: the animated series" and Jackie Chan could do the voice over for the robot, and "Dr. Thumbsdown" his arch enemy could be played by Chuck Noris. awsome!
/time for bed, I'm going crazy... - RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No reason for the two to be mutually exclusive. Art is mass-copied and sold all the time. Lithographs of Dali and Monet and such.
- Al.x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wallpapers of the Amazing Robot Sculpture:

http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/cubegoodies/6748/ - livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is sweet
but where the free ***** posts at? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2God Damn, Holy *****! I machine metal myself, but that is is beyond frigg'n awesome.
- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4That thing is totally awesome
- Helfax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Asimov would be proud. Shall we name it Daneel?
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I would so buy one of those, you have no idea. Well, if you agree with me, then you do. But seriously, I want one of these things.
- CarbonAndroid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2He's very talented
- levyjl1988, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5holy *****! they should mass produce these, I want one!
- cybernetic798, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow that is a well conceived robot model...I'm tempted to suggest that to my research grp now cuz it jus looks soooooooooo cool
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks like an Asimovian robot. Brilliant display of technical skill. I want one on my desk!
- melanko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd buy one of thoes. Would really improve my figure drawing I think.
But, my wooden one pry would cost a WHOLE lot less. - oyam19, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3can someone find out who the guy is who made it...
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Suspicious... is it purely coincidental that that 'guy' looks like a model/actor? What's going on with that?
- photostyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i've seen this before. maybe a year or two ago. i think you could buy one, but it was hella expensive. I tried to dig it up, but couldn't find anything on google.
- zouhair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is art not a franchise :)
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very amazing, beautiful work. That said, um... is it just me, or does the robot look like its executing a "BM"? It's not just me is it? Be honest.
- everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'd pay for the design skepmatics to make this on ones own. this is *****. now make a bigger one with servoes and mortos to make it move.
- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you are refering to the "wrestling robots"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing stuff, especially if it was all machined by hand. I hope he doesn't let it go to waste and puts his work(s) on film as stop motion animation.
- matx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And what kind of positions are they
- GodPants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me too I want it **Goes and sells A$$**
- Infekted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah i definitely want one of those... geesh i thought i would be satisfied with the wood man at ikea...
- zouhair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder when the first animated movie will use those sculptures
would be great - jguerry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1there are far too many nicks and other discrepancies for this NOT to be a real milled robot. shadows go away with more light, that is why the shadows are not as intense. he may have digitally manipulated them by altering the contrast, but it always makes a photograph look better anyways. unless you have a real high-end camera.
you're a dupe. - jguerry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1we have a very similar milling machine here at the university when i worked in the dept freshman year. i don't believe he used a computer at all in milling the parts. i'm sure he used a computer to help figure out the tolerances and such. you would think...
- edyagi, on 05/14/2008, -0/+0Amazing. Number 3 on my top 10 most incredible robot art: http://www.planetsurfer.net/2008/05/13/top-10-incr ...
- viciousnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0beautiful sculpture.. wouldnt mind having one on my desk.. 37grand puts it just out of reach i think lol
- MechaKevinRose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i don't see why the artist couldn't market this out, and by using cheaper materials like hard plastics and mass production, this would be great to sell to other artist that would really benefit from figure sculptures for drawing, or even people who would just love to have a piece that could be that posable for decoration. and try to keep the price in the hundreds.
- eruhu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd definitely buy one...
