To the NE is a bunch of parts, and to the SW and NW(across the road) are a bunch more aircraft.
You can tour the site, apparently http://www.thepepper.com/tucson_airplane_graveyard ... - beetrixi, on 06/24/2009, -1/+24R.I.P. airplanes.
- SSPink, on 06/25/2009, -2/+22I see we have some people who are new to the internet.
Welcome. - floort, on 06/24/2009, -2/+21That's awesome. Where is it? is there a Google maps location for it?
- suntzusputnik, on 06/25/2009, -0/+15would make a fun playground or paintball course, whatever suits your fancy
- sh0cks, on 06/25/2009, -0/+14I think Bing Maps bird view is much better because you get to see them close up. Just go to this link and click bird view
http://www.bing.com/maps/#JndoZXJlMT0zMi4xNTQzNDgl ... - dopesick, on 06/25/2009, -0/+12It should more appropriately be referred to as a "Bone Yard". For removal of components for either surplus part usage and replacement, or for scrap value. Of course all useful, and classified items have already been removed.
I've toured that site, and it is HUGE. And has every US Military plane from 1980 (some 90's vintage), and older. more then you could ever imagine... - Xplorer, on 06/25/2009, -2/+11Submitted to hardware?
- recockulous, on 06/25/2009, -7/+14Uh, it's spelled Tucson.
- deff, on 06/25/2009, -1/+8Steel? What steel?
- jmill987, on 06/25/2009, -0/+7Actually those are airplanes
- proliance, on 06/25/2009, -1/+8David Monthan Airplane Patch
- KibibyteBrain, on 06/25/2009, -0/+6If they were strategic bombers from the cold war, they have to be left in view of satellites to comply with SALT 2. Anything else would be left in view for salvage.
- ChildhoodRage, on 06/25/2009, -1/+7The B-52s were chopped as part of an arms reduction treaty with Russia. They have been left out to be visible for the Russian spy satellites to verify that we held up our end of the deal. This image can easily be found on Google Earth by searching for "Davis Monthan AFB"
- lanemik, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5Let's see, on a quick browsing of google maps, I spotted an A-4, T-37, T-34, F-15, F-111, B-52, B-1, C-141, C-5, T-38 (F-5?), KC-135, 707, C-130, P-3, E-2C, F-106, F-102, T-39, T-33, C-119, and some Navy planes I'm not familiar with as well as helicopters which I'm not so good at identifying.
- MarshalBanana, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5At least They even drew a neat pattern around them for decoration.
- brycehun, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q& ...
- razrielle, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5actually the reason they get stored at that location is because they are less likely to rust, each plane is stripped of critical components before they get put in the yard, then when another airbase needs a part for their own plane and cant procure or manufacture it locally they take parts from the planes in the boneyard and restore that and use it. so we are actually saving money by recycling the planes
- MrBogard, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5Uh, it's spelled ricockulous... well... if it were a word, it would be.
- Sepeteus, on 06/25/2009, -1/+6May you rest in pieces.
- Jagger750, on 06/25/2009, -1/+6Seems like a video game should be made out of this.
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -0/+4Unreal. I want one. Just one.
- a30n, on 06/25/2009, -2/+6sad ... beautiful birds
- readacook, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5Please continue, I find myself enthralled.
- damnshoes, on 06/25/2009, -0/+4Captain Oveur: You ever been in a cockpit before?
Joey: No sir, I've never been up in a plane before.
Captain Oveur: You ever seen a grown man naked? - TexasMd91, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5Get these mutha ***** planes off this mutha ***** graveyard!
- okgenius33, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5More like an airplane funeral. The ones on the outside are mourning the ones in the center.
- CoreyTamas, on 06/25/2009, -0/+4And still cool.
- eraser852, on 06/25/2009, -0/+4Hey, I've driven past there
Seemed to be an endless field of planes from the street

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/eraser851/A ... - cuecat, on 06/25/2009, -0/+4Thanks.
- Thandor, on 06/25/2009, -3/+6Dugg down due to lack of John Malkovich or Nicholas Cage.
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4recockulous is right, it is spelled Tucson.
- MrZop, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4I really think they need to start retrofitting the main body of the planes into some kind of house. like a trailer or something. I think that would be sort of nifty. better then letting them rust away in the desert, in my opinion.
- Scruffo, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4Why is he getting dugg down? it even shows it on the google maps link as Tucson.
- howcansheslap, on 06/25/2009, -2/+5vigilante 8 anyone?
- paulwe, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4Tax payer dollars hard at work :D
- deff, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3I think all that's stored there is airframes. I believe they strip all the electronics, hydraulics and engines for possible reuse.
- unusualbob, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3So far I've spotted some F-14s and maybe some F-16s or 18s, A-10s, and a ***** TON of F-4s. What are the other aircraft there?
- lpcustom, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4A huge amount of the planes in the Aircraft Boneyard are there for storage. Most of the rest are just hulls. The military reused most of the equipment.
- dirtycanucker, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3SOME of them are there so Russian satellites can see them. As part of the end of the cold war, both the USSR and the USA agreed to destroy or render inoperable a percentage of strategic aircraft. "Chopped-up aircraft must remain on the ground for 90 days after they’ve been reported destroyed, to give the former Soviet Union time to verify by satellite surveillance. The only exception to this rule occurs when Russian inspectors come in and release the destroyed plane following an on-site verification."- Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START)
- 7aji, on 06/25/2009, -0/+2OMG! Sign my balls please!
- yoshihama, on 06/25/2009, -0/+2Davis Monthan, not David Monthan
http://www.dm.af.mil/ - wastelander, on 06/25/2009, -0/+2They have tours of the site from the PIMA Air and Space Museum.
http://www.pimaair.org/view.php?pg=16
Also they have a Titan Missile Silo that you can tour (at another location). - mondoman89, on 06/25/2009, -1/+3They actually use a lot of these aircraft for spare parts. They even store some aircraft at that base when they aren't in use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/309th_Aerospace_Maint ...
- thomn8r, on 06/25/2009, -0/+2Do you like gladiator movies?
- aragonii, on 06/25/2009, -0/+2It's called "The Boneyard"
- lanemik, on 06/25/2009, -3/+5Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ.

What you see in the picture is just a small part of it. - thomn8r, on 06/25/2009, -0/+2Actually, Al does indeed corrode.
- LostOnion, on 06/25/2009, -0/+1The History Channel had a program about it, entitled just that. It was very interesting.
- dw4prez, on 06/25/2009, -0/+1Little off topic. But I remember this picture from a while ago and it was the only picture to ever be found to have had embedded text hid in the jpg format. Does anyone else remember that big hoop la of the search and all?
