I'm glad that budget netbooks are starting to look better, though. Previously I thought that the Samsung lineup was the only half-decent looking range, but they were a bit more pricey. - JEH225, on 05/29/2009, -0/+20since when is a macbook pro a netbook?
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -2/+21Glad you're gone.
- dwhiteley87, on 05/29/2009, -1/+19When is ASUS NOT releasing a new model to the Eee line?

- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -3/+17All of you single platform fanboys suck.
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 05/29/2009, -1/+14Are netbooks stuck at 1.66ghz? Seems to be the unchanging speed.
- themastersb, on 05/29/2009, -0/+13I just bought a 1000HE a couple months ago and other than the 1008 being half as thick and having 3 less hours of battery life there doesn't seem to be much change. So it pretty much comes down to whether you want to spend an extra $50 bucks for looks (where have I seen that before...) or do you want 3 extra hours in battery and not spend an extra $50
- Pattyo13, on 05/29/2009, -2/+12$400+ for a OK spec 10" notebook?!?
i understand it's a netbook, but my dell mini was only $200. you can get a "real" laptop for $450-$500 - cawpin, on 05/29/2009, -0/+9Well, since he's talking about a Macbook Pro, he doesn't know what he's talking about. And you, a 13" laptop is not even in the range of a netbook.
- TheAngryMob, on 05/29/2009, -1/+10Non-removable battery? I barely tolerate it on my iPod, but a computer? No freaking way.
- web2pointYo, on 05/29/2009, -1/+10Strike two...
- Elranzer, on 05/29/2009, -0/+7The term "netbook" has unofficially come to mean "small laptop with Intel® Atom™ processor inside." Which really sucks, because netbooks with ULV processors and AMD's NEO line would have much more potential.
I don't really see the benefit of the Atom™ over AMD's Neo or even Intel's own Core series Ultra-Love Voltage (ULV) line. The battery lives of these netbooks rarely exceed 3 hours, which is about the standard battery life of reglar laptops without extended battery. - KooperG, on 05/29/2009, -1/+7$200 ??? give me a link plz...
- skintigh, on 05/29/2009, -0/+5Calm the ***** down, I'm sure they will release a linux version with better hardware. For the same price as the windows version I bought the linux version of the 1000 and it came with twice the solid state storage as the Windows version.
- web2pointYo, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4If only your opening salvo made any sense.
- bipolarruledout, on 05/29/2009, -1/+5It's pretty much all intel all the time...this is what happen outside of a competitive market.
- Linkin4, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4www.slickdeals.net
- danielwsmithee, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4This thing looks just like the old 12" iBooks but a little bit rounder and smaller. Not a bad design but nothing to go gaga over.
- hereisandy, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3the reason why I love my netbook is not the price. I like the size of it! I can carry it anywhere without the hassle of a big clunky notebook.
- Narishma, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3It's both Intel and Microsoft putting stupid limitations in there. Intel doesn't want the Atom to compete with it's more lucrative Core 2s and Celerons. And Microsoft basically doesn't make much (if anything) out of the XP licenses and don't want the manufacturers to get them instead of Vista for their regular laptops.
The only way out is to ditch both Intel and Microsoft but nobody is going to do that because people don't want anything other than Windows and it only runs on x86. - Narishma, on 05/29/2009, -1/+4That's BS. My NC10 can run for around 6 hours with wifi enabled and the screen dimmed to half. If I disable wifi and dim the screen all the way down it can go up to 8 hours while still being readable.
- themastersb, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3Maybe you mean Macbook Air?
- Wag3Slav3, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3So just install ubuntu 9.04 and enjoy a netbook that just works.
- kelp, on 06/04/2009, -0/+3they already are
- Elranzer, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3They still haven't made a nicer looking netbook than Lenovo (S10) or Dell (Mini) yet.
- zer0mass, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2Ug..... non removable battery? Come on!
- danjware, on 05/29/2009, -4/+6from the review:
"If you're a practical shopper, the 1000HE, the One (10-inch), and the N120 with their removable battery and extra USB port, are your best bets." - Elranzer, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2"Not unless you consider the shiny cheap plastic "slick" or slippery"
You must never have seen any of Sony or Apple's marketing then. - ImmortalLegend, on 05/29/2009, -1/+3Wow, it seems like ASUS releases a new netbook every week! I got my EEE PC 1000HE about a month ago and since then, I know there have been atleast 3 new netbook models released.
- stk198323, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2You know Asus exist since more then 2 weeks right?
They have made it up to here and will continue to be just fine! Maybe you had a problem with an Asus product but it's pretty stupid to go generalize!
My Toshiba laptop is really crappy, but do you see me telling everyone that a Toshiba TV is ***** cause I had problem with my laptop? - mrBitch, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1In order to provide a lighter, thinner, and sleeker netbook, ASUS had to do the same things that Apple did with the MacBook Air :
1. non-removable battery.
2. and also this FTA :
"... ASUS did make some port modifications in order to slim down the chassis. In place of a normal VGA port is a mini-USB port... "
Article all on one page here :
http://www.pcmag.com/print_article2/0,1217,a%253D2 ... - inactive, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1Well I had to digg you becuase 1000HE is exactly what I am using right now.
- xdunnox, on 05/29/2009, -2/+3no. Microsoft put a limit on proc. speeds so that all companies don't call their laptops netbooks just to pay for a cheaper license.
- mrBitch, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1@ Technopundit, RE: " .. $425, and when the battery goes dead, just toss it in the river... "
Considering you chose "technopundit" as your account name, you really are a bit of an idiot when it comes to technology.
"non-removable battery" just means not removable by anyone without the correct tools.
Any ASUS authorised tech (or a guy at the local computer shop) can have the battery replaced for you. The same goes for the Apple iPods and MacBook Air products. - samsonofjohn, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1I have to say although many are trying to steal the apple look, the one mistake they are doing is with the lift at the base of the laptop when you look at it from the side angle. Going on aesthetic purposes only, it would look much better if all these pc companies stuck to a more basic look and a flat bottom.
- wolfger, on 05/29/2009, -2/+3Buried, because they knifed Linux in the back.
- reddevil3, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1hmm looks very similar to my HP Mini 110...in fact I would say the HP is better looking
- deansaluti, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1Will netbooks be compatible with Windows 7....
- stk198323, on 05/29/2009, -1/+2Or use it on AC power... whichever seems to make the most sense!
- Technopundit, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1Hey! $425, and when the battery goes dead, just toss it in the river. Beauty!
- Frostek, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1Oh look - and it comes with an EIGHT YEAR OLD operating system - what a bargain. /s
- skintigh, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1Not only is that very nice looking, but I like how they changed the keyboard around so that the arrow buttons and shift key are in more intuitive locations. I own the 1000 and I am always hitting the up arrow while typing and thinking I'm hitting the shift key. Really really ***** annoying. I also kinda wish the batter wasn't removable and so big and obnoxious, it really ruins the look of the laptop and makes it sit funny when I'm trying to use it on my lap.
- Stingwolf, on 05/29/2009, -1/+2The previous replies are on the right track, but incorrect. It is Microsoft limiting specs, not Intel. However, it is simply because they don't want people with normal laptops not using Vista. The XP license is more expensive for a computer which is not designated by Microsoft as a netbook.
http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2008/09/micro ... - deansaluti, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1I look that netbooks are becoming more "stylish" and less toylike. However, are there any recommendations for netbooks in the $300 range? Anything over that and I would look for a light laptop instead.
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1I'll stick with my Lenovo, thank you.
- Elranzer, on 05/29/2009, -1/+1http://www.ebay.com
- schnikies79, on 05/29/2009, -1/+1@Technopundit
I ran Win 7 RC1 on my Aspire one for a while and it ran just fine, pretty close to how XP runs.
Got rid of it because drivers sucked. -
