- doiveo, on 09/24/2008, -1/+150"For once" ???
I think this guy has amnesia - AMD has had many great successes and was on top a few years ago.
More like, "good to see you back" - louiebaur, on 09/24/2008, -1/+951GHz overclock on air and it's from AMD this time?! Now you're talking!
- MacBookForMe, on 09/24/2008, -3/+84I love any kind of competition like:
Intel vs. AMD.....FireFox vs. Chrome.....Apple vs. PC......Nvidia vs. ATI - MacSuxWindozSux, on 09/24/2008, -0/+55I remember in 2001 when AMD really started getting popular, Intel was running with a huge lead. Intel chips were about 800$ while comparable AMD chips were 200$.
Since then AMD has forced Intel's prices down hundreds of dollars. So AMD is a good thing for everyone, even Intel customers. - RADRaze2KX, on 09/24/2008, -8/+48Great so we proved a newer, faster Phenom outperforms older, slower Phenoms... we also proved that it overclocks well, but where's a comparison against a C2D?
This article kinda sux. - inactive, on 09/24/2008, -2/+39Depending on how things go, I may switch to AMD on my next build. A friend of mine has been with AMD for the last couple PCs and they've been great. The price for performance is the draw.
- AmyVernon, on 09/24/2008, -3/+39An extremely comprehensive review...
- twigboy, on 09/25/2008, -1/+30damn site dead already
- rolf, on 09/25/2008, -0/+25You called?
- olliholliday, on 09/25/2008, -3/+27Somebody's got a case of the mondays!
- TSK05, on 09/25/2008, -0/+22.... What happened to digg being a technology site?
- Helloween2008, on 09/25/2008, -7/+28But will it play Crysis?
- venom8599, on 09/25/2008, -1/+20Except, you know, for late 2003-mid 2006.
- amnesiac096, on 09/25/2008, -1/+20Firefox sucks? Go back to your IE and eat *****
- utdrew182, on 09/24/2008, -0/+18I haven't used anything but since the K6-2, never had any issues to speak of. The performance diffrence has been back and fourth but I've never wanted to pay for the "best computer out there this very second but not next month", the premium is just too high.
- inactive, on 09/24/2008, -0/+18You're right. I should have said "it's good to see you back" indeed or rather "For once, recently..."
- stephantabor, on 09/25/2008, -1/+12IE ftw i guess?
that is offensive - cnot3, on 09/25/2008, -0/+11I think the model numbers stopped having that connotation a long time ago. Intel has labeled their CPU's with model numbers for the past few years too, as just naming them with the operating frequency lost all relevance years ago. All 6500 means is that its better than anything from AMD with a lower number.
- ExRe, on 09/25/2008, -1/+11If it can't outperform current Core 2's by 20%, they will be left behind by Nehalem which should be released soon.
- collution, on 09/25/2008, -1/+11Not really...A little bit of browsing on Newegg will tell you Intel dominates this market right now and AMD has been falling off a cliff :/.
- unknownsoldierX, on 09/25/2008, -0/+10You forgot the sarcasm tag. This review is anything but comprehensive. No comparison to a C2D. All it tells us is the obvious, that the new chip is better than the old ones.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+10Fly to Africa and feed some starving kids then, you ***** Knight-In-Shining-Armor-From-Digg
- KloroFormd, on 09/25/2008, -0/+8Where's that mirror??
- aadsfasdf, on 09/25/2008, -3/+11"EVER?!"
It's really that surprising that technology improves with time? - Sliver85, on 09/25/2008, -0/+8... or.. wednesdays
- ExSlashdotter, on 09/25/2008, -0/+7Hit it on the head. The Athlon XP vs the P4 wasn't even a fair contest for quite a while. It wasn't until the Core architecture came out that Intel "finally" caught up.
- contradictator, on 09/25/2008, -0/+7Pie vs. Cake
- HeyArnold, on 09/25/2008, -2/+9do you want to guess how much cheaper this proc's going to be than the equivalent Intel processor?
wait, wait! do you want to think about the price/performance ratio??
No, dont do that. You'll feel like an ass. - skybohannon, on 09/25/2008, -2/+9The bear from Tekken?
- mauso, on 09/25/2008, -1/+8Lies.
- dha07030, on 09/25/2008, -2/+9I just pick up an E8400 for $150 a great deal imo. Overclocked it to 3.7 on air with room to spare.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+6My Opteron 165 does 2.84 on air at stock voltage, which is just over a 1 ghz oc. Not too uncommon with the better steppings, plenty of other AMD parts overclock just as well, Brisbanes and such. Old news these days, but a 1ghz oc on air shouldn't be too shocking to you(even from AMD) if you follow overclocking really. It's just the current Phenom steppings that don't clock so great.
- ElAmo, on 09/25/2008, -3/+9add a gtx280 and the answers yes (i know, ati is better, but for crysis they aren't)
- Titan615, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6Well just randomly googling it looks like the C2D e8400 gets about 4,700 PC marks. The new 6500+ gets only 3,700 at 2.3 Ghz. I think the chip will scale very well against the current C2D chips. I am looking forward to seeing more of these chips soon.
- yacks, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6a gaming rig using a celeron? what were you thinking? :)
- wonderworm, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5An even more important reason for buying AMD processors each time you do a build or buy a new PC is that each time you do, you are ensuring that PC prices will continue to fall while performance goes up because you will be helping to break the 90% market monopoly of Intel. I am not saying Intel is evil or anything, but the sole reason we have bad-ass super cheap and powerful computers today is because of all the AMD buyers of the past keeping AMD alive and forcing Intel to innovate and lower prices. So support AMD and support future cheap desktops and laptops for yourself and your family.
- smartsalman, on 09/25/2008, -4/+9Something from AMD Finally!
- cannarymburns, on 09/25/2008, -2/+7ati radeon 9700, 9800, x800, x1900 and amd athlon 64 amnesia? hell, even the athlon xp held its own unti northwood came around... its ridiculous that even after all these successes, the marketing wool from intel and nvidia keeps people blind...
- snowysnowcones, on 09/25/2008, -2/+7It's a good chip to get the wheels rolling again.
- pyrates, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5Did anyone else notice that the article seemed to be translated using babelfish?
- santaliqueur, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5Pedobear uses Cyrix chips.
- Arkz, on 09/25/2008, -1/+6*sigh* to the neg diggers he means Kuma, the core name, he was a character from tekken
- thushan, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5Welcome back, we missed you.
- MonoDede, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5Welcome back, welcome back, wellllcome back :)
I always liked AMD, but I have to admit they were slacking as of late. Perhaps I'll build my new rig with AMD again. - yacks, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5Now you just need to factor cost per performance.
- EnzanBlues, on 09/25/2008, -2/+6You mean Nvidia vs. AMD right? AMD took over ATI quite a while ago.
- sirmasterboy, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4Same here, my Q6600 (stock 2.4Ghz) is running on air cooling at 3.6Ghz 1.2Ghz overclock or 50%, and that's a quad! Also never goes over 60c which is very conservative for the G0 stepping with an Intel max rated temp of 71c.
- devilgoob, on 09/25/2008, -1/+5You mean DAAMIT.
- KloroFormd, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4And if it wasn't for tough competition from AMD, you'd be running that toasty and terribly inefficient Netburst architecture at 6GHz by now.
Enjoy the competition, don't be an ignorant fanboy. - KloroFormd, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4Thank ya muchly.
"At present, we do not know whether or not Kuma processors like the 8000 series of nuclear 3, 4, from the core of the "castration" but it seems to test the power consumption[...]" (from the translation)
