- Ghorkvos, on 02/25/2009, -2/+71Are you sure its not Constantinople?
- BTallack, on 02/25/2009, -2/+45Istanbul was constantinople
Now it’s istanbul, not constantinople
Been a long time gone, constantinople
Why did constantinople get the works?
That’s nobody’s business but the turks - ProKid, on 02/25/2009, -2/+21Go AMD! Stay competitive baby, hate to see you leave.
- WibWobble, on 02/25/2009, -2/+20Sorry for off-topic but can't think of anywhere else to ask: How the hell do you remove someone from the block list?!
I'm so gonna get buried hard for this - AaronCo, on 02/26/2009, -0/+14So when can I get 6 6.6ghz cores? That'd be beastly.
- MacEnvy, on 02/25/2009, -1/+15Profile->Settings->Viewing Preferences (button is in the sidebar)
- Jambi, on 02/26/2009, -0/+9It would be more amusing if Intel released a competing processor by that name.
- fallout49, on 02/25/2009, -1/+9Is this just a press release?
- BucksOSU, on 02/26/2009, -2/+10Istanbul was Constantinople
It's Instanbul not Constantinople
It's got six cores, oh Constantinople
It's such a delight to see it run all night
Those waiting on Constantinople
Gets Instanbul, Not Constantinople
So if you want six cores named Constantinople
You'll be picking up Instanbul
Every server needs more cores for it to play
Who can provide it AMD may
AMD will make it better this way
http://gamingnexus.com/FullNews/Its-Instanbul-not- ... - trevorh, on 02/26/2009, -1/+8Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.
Why they changed it I can't say.
Some people just liked it better that way. - fuzzynyanko, on 02/26/2009, -2/+8It would be amusing if they named the desktop line Constantinople.
- 0tis, on 02/26/2009, -0/+6Let's not pretend it was made to be played.
- TheAngryMob, on 02/25/2009, -1/+6http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mv-KcF3Rkv8
- Coercion, on 02/26/2009, -0/+5i'll wait for the 8 core Octopus processor
- fuzzynyanko, on 02/26/2009, -0/+5You can, but Opteron CPUs, motherboards, and server RAM are very expensive.
- TheZorch, on 02/25/2009, -2/+6The future of CPUs for now until viable room temperature super-conductors can be found will be multi-core technology. Squeezing as many cores into a single processor will be the next major step rather than a speed boost. Virtualization is also the future of server technology, allowing one machine to replace the functions of a dozen or more. Home computing will be changed by this also.
And I know there's got be someone out there wanting to say this so I'll beat you to it...
"... But will it run Crysis?"
There, HA! And to answer your question hell yes it will.
Now, I'd like to see multi-core GPUs and virtualization in GPU processors. This would allow full native 3D acceleration in virtual machines like Parallels and Vware which do it via software pass thru at the moment. - omenmedia, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4No, but it will run Crysis.
- drshorty, on 02/26/2009, -0/+4They Might be Giants. I'm surprised every time I mention them, nobody knows what I'm talking about, even though they find the songs amusing.
- mark076h, on 02/25/2009, -1/+5Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D11uY5dOE2c
- WibWobble, on 02/26/2009, -1/+4Thanks, that works perfectly!
- TheCosmicFool, on 02/26/2009, -0/+3Here is the correct video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeQ-wjDH4F4
- 0tis, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I have to think, could they not just keep working to make the ones they have... better? Not that I know the first thing about this, but you know.
Make them smaller and faster, *then* put six in. - ilgaz, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I can't agree more especially since Apple gave up PowerPC. It would be a such sad thing that even Intel wouldn't want.
We are all already stuck in x86. Imagine a single company with no competition situation. - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2oh
- stagnate, on 02/25/2009, -3/+5I never thought they would go past 4 cores... ever. This is a real surprise to me...
- DrLeePhD, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Even old P4's could use a new upgrade
Why they named it I can't say
People thought it might sell better that way
Istanbul not Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, versus Constantinople
server downtime gone, claims Constantinople
Why not intel 6core chips that work?
That's nobody's business but those jeks.
So, DO NO WANT Intel, Constantinople
No, I won't downgrade, to Constantinople
server up-time gone, Constantinople
Why won't Constantinople freaking work?
That's nobody's business but those Jerks.
I S T A N B U L ! ! ! - solid12345, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Byzantium would have been the coolest name for the processor of all, it just rolls off the tongue.
- spyd3rweb, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I miss the days when opterons were cheaper than the desktop models and you could overclock them to insane levels.
- DrLeePhD, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2is this to compete with the (still top secret) intel "Constantinople" processor?
- V3NOM, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Yeah, that would be ungodly.
- Chicken2nite, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2I'd suggest you check out The Arrogant Worms, particularly The Last Saskatchewan Pirate and Carrot Juice is Murder and I Am Not American. Celine Dion is quite the funny one as well. I can't think of a song of theirs that isn't humorous.
- xCIone, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Wow!six core!!!!il keep on watching on this
- eljitto, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1it's a cell processor.
Check out wikipedigod - sylvester76, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1woow, Istanbul sounds cool :)
- eljitto, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1You got bet to that question
- enkyuuji, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1Codename: Not Constantinople and ***** ALL YOU WHO BEAT ME TO THAT JOKE!
God, I'm sad. - ilgaz, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1Check Apple photos and be surprised at what keyboards developers use.
MS input hardware is one of the good things they do. - whosmatt, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1cute. they're using microsoft keyboards for linux servers.
- chaosblade77, on 03/05/2009, -0/+1AMD also has a 12 core processor on their roadmap if I'm not mistaken.
- HelAom, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1yeah I'm still running everything at high settings, which makes me wonder what all this new stuff is capable of
- raydeen, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1IS-TAN-BUUUUUULLLLLLLL!
- SupComTabz, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1Very interesting.. the videos were cool!
- mynameistux, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1o *****, how did I do that.
I am so ashamed. - Rememberthe0511, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1IT MUST BE MINE!!!
- DrLeePhD, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1edit: beaten to the punch.
- ChromeGhost, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1video was cool, good to see progress in action in the tech field
- raydeen, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1There used to be a killer video done by Warner Bros. for that song on Youtube, but of course like all good things it had to be removed,
- borez, on 02/25/2009, -4/+5"Istanbul" as in half of the processor likes to sing, dance and embrace the modern world whilst the other half is completely stuck in its Orthodox Byzantine ways and doesn't quite work properly any more?
- extraolikeme, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1Very cool!
