- srosebush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mine is the same leftfoot. bout 6 hrs on insp 6000... they got good batteries eh?
- diggDoug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet! Hmm, a shiny new PowerBook made out of Liquidmetal Alloy, with an Intel processor that's frugal on power, runs cool and the battery lasts 8 hours.
- masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mikezilla: They have advanced. The only problem is that the laptops are advancing more so they suck more power. Right now, though, there are troubles trying to advance at a rate to keep usage constant with rising power usage, let alone longer life.
- srosebush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I'd love a battery that lasts on long flights, I travel frequently between Europe and Canada (I live in Ontario, Canada) and often go to The Netherlands. I would love to have my battery last the whole 8 hour flight.
- onehalf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I barely get 3 minutes on my 5 year old ThinkPad. Just enough time to plug the frayed power cord back in, when it falls out.
When the hell are they coming out with those tritium batteries!!? I want my 10 years of battery life! - jediboytj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i get close to 5 on my PB
- Addp009, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I get close to 6 hours on my IBM ThinkPad.
I think we can blame manufacture for putting desktop cpu in a laptop. I mean that idea is just so stupid. All Pentium M powered laptops I've seen have pretty decent batter life. I don't think you can blame the battery when you're trying drive a 120watt cpu on it. - 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All you guys need is a Pentium M. I have an Inspiron 9300 with the Geforce 6800 Go 256MB, 1Gb of RAM, and the Pentium M 760. This thing is fast. On top of all that, even with the 17" screen I get excellent battery life as long as I'm not running it in performance mode. I think the norm when I run it in performance mode is around 5 hours. I never really need to run off of battery for longer than that, so I haven't tried using the low power mode.
- bryan8m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I get about 15 hours on my desktop; after that I usuaully have to shut down for the night.

http://digg.com/hardware/UltraCell_Announces_Portable_Methanol_Fuel_Cell_System - AlltheBodies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+06 hours on the Inspiron 6000? How in the hell do you manage that? lol I get 3 hours on mine, and that's without Wi-fi and a low screen brightness.
- MikeZila, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My five year old iBook battery lasts upwards of 6 if I'm not playing Unreal Tournament the whole time.
Why haven't these advanced very far yet? Seems like an integral part to focus on... - Wondermikej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i get about 2 hours on my acer.. if i'm watching movies i get about an hour.. this would be really great for travel... no more switching batteries on plan trips..

http://www.notebook-batteries.net - j0keR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Laptops have always seemed to have a major problem with battery life, we have used IBM Thinkpads for projects at school. Many of the computers barely lasted an hour, and that was in the classrooms with strict teachers. A couple times there were substitutes and I managed to drain my battery in maybe twenty minutes downloading and playing MP3's off the school's wifi network. I'm sure there are a lot more power-consuming things digg users could think of doing, so maybe some day we will look back at our present-day power chrisis and laugh.
- Ender61484, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I get 1 hour with my Alienware 7700. I would really like this.
- leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0allthebodies, I use Centrino Hardware Control, and I have the updated battery for the insp. 6000, so that explains the 6 hours. Still freakin amazing, my old laptop with a pentium 3 and 12 inch screen would only last about 2 hours with everything down. Laptops have come a long way...

in response to "bugmenot2" - mpeters13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0woot. The battery in my sony vaio vgn-t350p last about 9, but this is cool
- focitrixilousP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jkfan:
You'd have to put the laptop in an earthquake to even come close to breaking even on power. That or shake for an hour to get a few minutes of power. Laptops draw a lot more watts than a lightbulb. - Room101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't understand how you guys are getting this kind of battery life. Is my battery small or something? I have a centrino laptop that averages about 2.5 hours. Do you dim the screen?
- strestout1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've got a Dell Inspiron 6000E and it's got an 8 hour battery life (real world tests give me 6-9 hours).
- myitchydog, on 02/25/2009, -0/+0A laptop battery shouldn't last 5 minutes. Buy a new one:

Laptop Battery to Last 8 Hours
***** signs deal with Intel to jointly develop a laptop battery that will last a whole work day.
August 24, 2005 - bigdroo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Screen dimming is one of the things you can do. You also have to be very short with the power down times with each of the components, HD, wireless, etc. Even then, it depends on what your notebook has and is capable of and what you're trying to accomplish. My eMachines A64 3000+ can pull over 2 hours if all I'm doing is reading web pages. Barely over 1 hour if watching a video...
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When are the solar powered charger attachments coming?
