- caseclosed326, on 08/05/2009, -10/+1305Heh, it's cool but 1 gig today is soooo much smaller than that clunky SD card.
- carterx, on 08/06/2009, -2/+6328 GB - 1980 Vs. 2009

- dmcaudio, on 08/05/2009, -24/+359older than old.
- Bobski, on 08/05/2009, -13/+334Q. How do you compare a needle head to a haha?
A. Look in your pants. - deadpoetic333, on 08/05/2009, -2/+313Exactly what I was thinking when I saw that picture, that SD card could easily be a 8 gig.
- canthraxp, on 08/06/2009, -3/+312Already hit frontpage:
http://digg.com/hardware/1GB_20_years_ago_and_1GB_ ...
on 2007. - dtfinch, on 08/06/2009, -3/+2481gb sd cards are so 2004.
- GreenMushroom16, on 08/05/2009, -7/+239Now THAT earned the "Giga" prefix .
- RoroCo, on 08/05/2009, -7/+216Man... You could store a ton of 16-bit porn on that thing.
- Cam_86, on 08/06/2009, -0/+197Yeah, more like "1 gig - 1980 vs. 2005". Didnt toshiba release a 32gig microSD card a few months ago?
- feedmecereal, on 08/05/2009, -16/+209This photo is probably submitted to Digg at least once every few weeks.
- newman8r, on 08/06/2009, -0/+144just because you say epic fail doesn't make it so
- plaguepony, on 08/06/2009, -4/+148This is not comparing to 2009. This is easily 2006. Toss a nano SD or Micro SD on there. Also make them 8 gigs.
- kingfoot, on 08/06/2009, -0/+136yeah my 8gb microSD card is laughing at that SD card right now.
- 3A2D50, on 08/06/2009, -4/+127This image is at least two years old... http://digg.com/hardware/1GB_20_years_ago_and_1GB_ ... (Digg submission in 2007)
There may even be older submissions! Don't know why ritubpant chose that title. Next year we will probably see the same picture but with the title 1 GB - 1980 Vs. 2010. o_0 - Paulish, on 08/06/2009, -5/+122Okay, now you're just showing off.
- zippy757, on 08/06/2009, -1/+109when I started at IBM in early '50s the entire worlds hard drive capacity wasn't a gigabyte....when we 'spun up' a DASD string, it would take about 1/2 hour before the drives stabilized their speed and were reliable...shutting them down was equally entertaining, but rare...
- GorfTron, on 08/06/2009, -0/+107For inhabiting these flesh bodies and being constrained by gravity.
- TonyTheTerrible, on 08/06/2009, -4/+111@_@

- CanceledCzech, on 08/06/2009, -2/+104Oh god, I haven't even thought about ReBoot in over a decade.
- bubbameister33, on 08/06/2009, -3/+83I laughed.
- PunkRampant, on 08/06/2009, -3/+80That SD card could easily be over 9000 GB
- LaundryDone, on 08/06/2009, -3/+75Imagine how hard people in 2029 are going to laugh at us.
- DarkMagic349, on 08/06/2009, -2/+72I love you.

- inactive, on 08/06/2009, -2/+55I don't think it will blend.
- terencec, on 08/06/2009, -3/+55REPOST FTW!
This picture was originally... 1980 Vs 2002 .... - inactive, on 08/06/2009, -1/+53Not to mention that hard drive would cost around $90,000.
http://www.dtidata.com/resourcecenter/hard-drive-p ...
A hard drive nowadays cost around $75 for 1 TB, so you're getting around 1 GB per 7.5 cents.
OVER 900,000 TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE!1!@>#@! - Miamisun, on 08/06/2009, -1/+53Purchased my first computer in 1996. The salesperson told me that I would never fill up the 1 GB of space. Brandsmart my ass.
- emt1451, on 08/06/2009, -9/+61hint: "too" not "to"
- caseycoold, on 08/06/2009, -0/+51.... "1gb of binary"
Hey that WAS smaller! - PhillyOC, on 08/06/2009, -2/+50As of right now you have 34 Diggs and 1 burial. Hmmm... I wonder who that was from?
- rolf, on 08/06/2009, -0/+48It's more like 2004:

- LedZep91, on 08/06/2009, -10/+48thats probably 1980 vs 2007
- jdh24, on 08/06/2009, -1/+38"2009"... buried for inaccuracy.
- leland1, on 08/06/2009, -1/+37The Head Disk Assembly has one advantage over the SD card:
it can never become lost in a room full of junk. - megaton, on 08/06/2009, -1/+37Since 1980.
