- Sighanide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15'credit card' makes me think I could carry that in my wallet...which I carry in my pants....which i sit on.
SNAP! bye-bye backups.
I wonder how durable it is? - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You know we've reached the pinnacle of computer development when the latest gadgets involve -- duct tape.
- SpacePirate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Built in retractable design? Seems someone listens to diggnation. ;)
http://digg.com/hardware/ACTUAL_Credit_Card_sized_upto_2GB_USB_Drive - 12340987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4not if was in your wallet.
- the_penguin_boy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Personally, I'd love to see these cards implemented as a removable media storage device. Kinda like floppies, but cooler and with a heck of a lot more storage.
- ianam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Thin is also an adjective."
That's what he just said, moron. - wolphcry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5cool, but i would lose that even faster then a usb thumb drive
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That is so cool, but it will probably be way too expensive.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"Sadly, as pretty much anything else that’s actually cool, it’ll come out in Korea first..."

זכרון חדש בגודל כרטיס אשראי יוכל להכיל 16 GB של נתונים…."
Yeah, whatever he said... I'm with him ^^^??? - splintax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't think it's actually a credit card, too, is it? :/ It just looks like one.
How does it connect to a PC? - Omicron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@selfappointedme
it's made by PQI. it's not on their website yet, but i checked out some other devices they have, and they have similar connectors. it's basically a normal USB plug, but w/o the surrounding metal:
http://www.pqi.com.tw/product.asp?oid=17&cate1=17
pretty cool, but it seems this could be very easily damaged. - Zipp425, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If its that thin, it should be flexible like any other credit card... unless of course its not made like a credit card.... yup your right, *SNAP* bye bye Backups
- ianam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"not only that, but keeping your wallet in your back pocket for a long time (ie years of keeping it there) can cause serious nerve damage."
Not as serious as believing baseless ... um ... rumors. - SelfAppointedMe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Being that thin I'd like to see the usb 2.0 connection on that thing or does it work its magic wirelessly via usb adapter.
- Pas3n7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Then you would having no trouble finding it after you crushed it.
- fuzzmello, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2let's see. flash sells at around $22 per gig, so this little number is going to run you at least $400 when all is said and done.
- ianam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"IMO it's a bad idea for creditcards but a good idea for storage media cards in the shape of creditcards."
Y' mean like, um, the thing actually being discussed? - bloqmon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3He just repeated the main points of the article for people who only speak Hebrew. =]
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What? I can't carry around my monkey wrench anymore? Weak.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The one on Diggnation wasn't retractable.
- cwmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not only "SNAP! bye-bye backups" but "SWIPE! bye-bye backups". Generally not a good idea to keep your wallet in your back pocket.
http://travel.howstuffworks.com/pickpocket2.htm - u3b3rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2damnit people - say 3mm thick for once. thin isn't a measurement, it's an adjective. (most marketing departments are guilty of this too)
- celchu33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Saw this on Alias, didn't realize it was a real thing!
- DarkHack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This I would like to have or maybe could reprlace the floppy disk and thumb drive.
- PirateFSM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i thought it was credit card sized, not a real card
- beasty_dave_Mk2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1awesome
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats very nice. right now i'm using 1 gig thumb drives as well as the extra space on my ipod for
moving files around. - SelfAppointedMe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well I see in one of the pictures that it apparently has a retractable usb plug but I'm still baffled. How can it be that thin and have a usb plug??
- ianam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13mm is about the size of a standard mini usb plug
- zyphbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great idea, just don't actually put it in your wallet with your credit cards!
This is how you can "Sneak" data out of places that shouldn't be snuck out of since you can get drives this small and it can be hidden anywhere. Did anyone else figure this was the plot in "The Recruit" halfway through the movie? Hidden USB Drives?
Also, Title and description needs changed for the digg story, it's not an ACTUAL Credit card as stated in the title (implying the VISA/MC type product), nor is it a "Wallet sized credit card adapter" (implying a credit card connecter for your computer), it's just a USB Drive. - hass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice, but it's still too thick. Who wants to carry arround a 3mm thick card? That's about 3 times thicker than a credit card.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Only 16 Gb? That will never do.
So, I can carry --what, like 23 movies in my wallet?
These portable storage things will be just fine until...someone starts a new fashion and people begin carrying around giant magnets. - zip22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whys that? a magnet wouldn't do anything. its flash.
i suspect the giant magnet would do more damage to the credit cards along side the device. - PirateFSM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Would be cool to replace older laptop's HDD with an IDE, (or however you connect Laptop drives) connector and put the flash instead. that would save on power AND prevent from having to buy a new Lappy. Or you could use these USBs and duct tape it to the bottom and boot from USB. (Although that would require a USB bootable bios. Nothing a floppy boot can't circumvent but still.)
Digg is a tech site and its Spell check doesn't know USB? - joltcola, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2wasnt this on diggnation months ago?
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just a matter of time now before laptops are running on flash-based harddrives.
- danguzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dang i can't wait... how much do you guys think it will sale for?
- zip22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think that is a true rumor
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/2664615.stm - everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it should come in a titanium shell :P
- CBau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Just a thought.... it seems to me that the best place for a card like this might not be in my wallet. I think I would prefer to have it attached via duct tape to the bottom/side/top of my laptop as a bit 'o additional storage. Kind of like a secondary hard drive, but tiny. Call me crazy, but I think it's a pretty good idea.
- soothi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is that SSD?
- rumor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2not only that, but keeping your wallet in your back pocket for a long time (ie years of keeping it there) can cause serious nerve damage.
- BogogF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How tight are your jeans ? I'm seriously skeptical it would cause damage, unless you carry around your entire collection of spare change, and a monkey wrench in your wallet. Usually I find it too uncomfortable to sit on my wallet, so I take it out.
- 4degrees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its bad to keep your wallet in back pocket anyway, makes easy pickens (pick pocket) and when you sit on it the imbalance horks up your back. I keep my wallet in my front pocket. Started doing that when my PDA found its way into my wallet... then i got rid of the PDA (didnt need it anymore) and the wallet stayed in the front pocket...
- jennifer2002, on 08/27/2008, -0/+0how can I justify one of those in my expense report? ;-)
- Tiberiansun292, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now i don't know if anyone had any said this but. this is a good thing. and a bad thing.
because if you could somehow reprogram. and get like a key logger on there. then when someone else swipes there card. and then when you swipe your card. and you get there info. - Aninhumer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I saw some tests, it actually takes one hell load of magnetism to screw up a credit card,
...and flash would only be affected if it got pulled out of your pocket and smashed. - mdshort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It'd be cool if it were used for the cryptography of the card.. a key would be downloaded from the card company which then allows them to read your card...
- livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Imagine a virus downloaded on your credit card with this?
Executes a whole lot of scary scenerios.. IMO it's a bad idea for creditcards but a good idea for storage media cards in the shape of creditcards. -
