Tiger Woods' return?

sports.espn.go.com — The Associated Press has reported that assuming there is no complications when he resumes a full practice routine, Woods likely will make his 2009 debut at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Marana, Ariz., during the last week in February.

    Tiger is simply the only relevant draw in Golf today. Mickelson, Singh, Garcia, Harrington . . . they may be good, but winning without Tiger in the field is simply a win with an asterisk, and people don't want to watch when the best aren't around.

When he's in the field and ends Saturday within about 4 strokes, you might as well not bother tuning in on Sunday. He's clearly the greatest to ever play the game, but it takes all the suspense out of the results. Remember last year, it was a story when Rocco ALMOST beat him at the Open: "Woods Almost Doesn't Win." That kind of dominance drives away some viewers. All in all though, glad he's back.
