- NoiseThread, on 02/27/2009, -5/+40Let's face it - more people will remember that Tiger was knocked out on Day 2 than will remember who actually WON the championship.
- homah, on 02/27/2009, -2/+25Clark shot -6 in less than a full round of golf. Not many people are going to beat that.
- veganpa, on 02/27/2009, -0/+18After he took time off after his Dad died, he missed the cut at the US Open. Since then, he's won more times than he's lost. I wouldn't bet against him later in the year.
- JermTool, on 02/27/2009, -4/+17That's fine, he is still the best in the world.
- homah, on 02/27/2009, -1/+13Losing a single round of matchplay against one of the top 64 players in the world doesn't exactly prove that he isn't.
- marcduke, on 02/27/2009, -2/+10I love it. Eric Casillias, who is an ass and is usually wrong, was on ESPN radio yesterday saying how Tim Clark was the equivalent of the Washington Generals and Tiger was the Harlem Globetrotters.
Well guess what Eric? The ***** Generals just whooped the Globetrotters! - anklesnap, on 02/27/2009, -3/+10wasn't he recently saying he's better than ever since coming back?
- adamchristopher, on 02/27/2009, -0/+7"All four #1 seeds have been knocked out of the event." feels like The World Series of Poker.
- EarlOfLade, on 02/27/2009, -0/+6Well, this is only a half-truth. While there is no doubt that the purses at each event has increased tremendously in the time since Tiger entered the scene in 96, neither the PGA Tour nor the golf world as a whole, is depending on Tiger and Tiger alone.
Golf is a lot more than just Tiger. - JackSchittt, on 02/27/2009, -3/+8I remember reading somewhere that the PGA continues to exist because of the popularity of Tiger Woods. Without him, they wouldn't be able to get the sponsorship or the viewers necessary to continue functioning.
- inactive, on 02/27/2009, -0/+5People who don't follow golf often don't realize how chaotic match play is.
- mountainman150, on 02/27/2009, -0/+5He's sponsored by Accenture, he's still getting paid.
- dchurchill, on 02/27/2009, -3/+7HE'S BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER!
- BellaVitaGirl, on 02/27/2009, -2/+6When was the last time you saw the winner of any championship have an undefeated season? Especially a sport with as many days of play as golf.
Tiger is GRRREAT! (Sorry. Someone had to say it.) - camaroz06, on 02/27/2009, -0/+4Its going to take him a few tournaments to get into prime Tiger playing condition. Anyways all the players got a lot better while he was away, though he is back the field has much more confidence they gained while he was away.
- pstroll, on 02/27/2009, -2/+6How could any man concentrate?
http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/columnists/jimba ... - wolfpack15, on 02/27/2009, -0/+3Go Wolfpack!! :) (Tim Clark is a NC State Alumnus)
- inactive, on 02/27/2009, -1/+3Golf Does Suck.
- EarlOfLade, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2You can't play golf and you have no gold, what's your point?
- inactive, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2And this year's NFL playoffs.
- marcduke, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2"It's just one match people, you can't win all of them."
Are you sure? Because that's what everybody in the sport's media has been telling us for years about Tiger. - orlyfactor, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2Yeah I was really concerned about his financial well-being. Thanks for waylaying my fears, now I can finally get a good night's sleep.
- OsmanP, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2Excellent win for Clark, do his confidence a world of good, well played. Wasn't expected to beat Tiger, but he'll come good, alot of people expected more, mind you he sets his own standards. He needs to have competitve golf under his belt, the next major is just around the corner, US Masters, so the more golf he plays (and also needs to test his knees), then he'll come good. He'll be in the reckoning come the majors as always!
- KrsRain, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2And you see thats it.
Clark played his ass off yesteday to beat Tiger.
Tiger was hitting like *****,but Clark was playing good. - ajwinder, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2The golf world doesn't need tiger, they need someone like Tiger. Golf needed someone like Nicklaus at the time he was competitive, what it needs is very consistent top-calibur players. And if you can get more than one "stars" around the same time, like was the case with Nicklaus, Player and Hogan, then you're in even better shape. Having players that get hot and then immediately get cold isn't great for the sport, it makes being a fan of a player incredibly difficult. If you've got a guy thats constantly going out there and making wins or at least being competitive, you get fans for that that player who will track him everywhere they play -- which is why Tiger's benefited the sport so much. Golf's going to always need a Tiger Woods -- they just might not always need 'The' Tiger Woods.

There you go. And there are plenty of others who have made similar remarks -- The PGA is dead without Tiger Woods. - zioxide, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2He most likely will be better than he was before the surgery, but he'll probably take a few tournaments to get tuned up and back to full strength. Practice rounds can only help so much.. it's much different when you're actually playing under pressure in a tournament.
- KrsRain, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2Naw I would really,really have to disagree.
Tiger's good and all,but he aint that good.
Theres to many good players on the circuit to worry about sponsorships.
Theres too much money in the PGA to worry about that.
Where you got ya info,a Cracka Jack box?
- epiczero, on 02/27/2009, -1/+2It sucks that when Tiger loses one match, people act as if he never will when anything ever again. It's just one match people, you can't win all of them.
- icexe, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1geez, give the guy a chance to get back up to competitive speed already...this was his first tourney after a pretty long absence, and he did pretty damn good actually.
- drifter, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1The Dolphins pulled it off, the Patriots were extremely close. And thats with more than one person which makes it harder to control.
I get your point but also just saying. - BellaVitaGirl, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1Patriots were close but no cigar.
Dolphins...it happened a long time ago.
With more than one person it's a bit easier because you are dividing up the work between more people for a shorter amount of time. Tiger's won SO MUCH over the last...what, decade?? It's pretty unbelievable. I'm shocked that he had a stellar FIRST day of play after not playing for a year. I didn't expect him to win (especially if all the other number 1 seeds were knocked out). - JackSchittt, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1Did you read the links above?
Even ESPN says that the PGA needs Tiger. - Chirp08, on 03/09/2009, -0/+1Regardless, you aren't going to bluff a horrible hand, a mediocre hand maybe, but if you are sitting there with absolute ***** you aren't going to risk it. End of the day its luck.
- lilrabbit129, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1The "all-in" showdowns they show in World Series of Poker is only the tip of the iceberg.. Try watching when people are bluffing each other out or playing the man, thats good stuff.
- bri719, on 02/27/2009, -1/+2knocked the f*@# out!
- flyingclutchman, on 02/27/2009, -0/+0It will be interesting to see how Tiger plays in the Masters
- algee650, on 02/27/2009, -1/+1Ok, guess I'm not watching golf this weekend...haha....Sorry TV execs, there goes your ratings for the wkd = )
- JackSchittt, on 02/27/2009, -1/+1The minute Tiger disappeared, ratings and sponsorship plummeted, and didn't rebound until he returned.
The golf world as a whole may not need Tiger, but the PGA most certainly does. - slambert77, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0Would love to see Rory Mcilroy win. Fellow Irishman. Some great tips on OLBG for who to put your money on
http://www.online-betting-guide.co.uk/golf.php - Chirp08, on 02/27/2009, -1/+1Except golf isn't a game of luck, it's a game of skill. At the end of the day, in poker, you are only as good as the cards you draw, and nobody can control that.
- 1807, on 02/27/2009, -2/+2Well just because you read something doesn't make it true. Especially when it's from an un-credited source.
- kiiwii, on 02/27/2009, -1/+2Woods.
- cuoops, on 02/27/2009, -1/+1He could go left handed and still win more than anyone.....quote: Butch Harmon
- herher123, on 08/19/2009, -0/+0Tiger Tiger Woods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- mrogi, on 02/27/2009, -0/+0Tiger is washed up. He's got knees like Fred Sanford. tee-hee.
- Satualanus69, on 02/27/2009, -2/+3Woops......................................... may be him and Phelps have been hanging out
- coheedsmonstar, on 02/27/2009, -0/+0Tiger Tiger Woods y'all!
- flamesrule, on 02/27/2009, -0/+0It's good for golf that he lost, not that I hate Tiger or anything but if he had comeback and started whipping everyone, then what does that say about the rest of the players? Sure he's the best but still. It's like when Monica Seles came back from her stabbing after 2 1/2 years. What does she do? She reaches teh finals of the US Open and takes Steffi Graf to 3 sets. It said that after being off for 2 1/2 years, Seles could come back and beat anyone not named Graf. Tiger will start winning again, but it's better for golf if he does it gradually and not right from the start
