- merdiesel, on 06/19/2008, -1/+11Tiger is a class act.
- daivos, on 06/19/2008, -0/+8I dominate Tiger in Tiger Woods '08, and his knee is just fine.
- kindablue, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6After watching the US Open this weekend I went to a driving range for the very first time and all I learned was that Tiger (and all those guys) are incredible. They do the impossible on command. It's great to see a nice guy who works really hard be successful and stay level-headed.
- strungoutyeh, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6woods isn't nicklaus...
- ledsam, on 06/19/2008, -2/+7And to think he's still got a good 20 years left. How many majors will he win? 20? 25?
- wTheOnew, on 06/19/2008, -0/+4Even if he was Jack, Tiger has 14 right now plus 6 equals 20.. So I would say that is a pretty good guess. But in all honesty, Tiger is probably going to double what he has now.
- Rizoh, on 06/19/2008, -0/+2Tiger lived up to his name by fighting through such a painful injury and emerging victorious in the end. The only ones happy about his injury are British bookies.
- wTheOnew, on 06/19/2008, -0/+2Not only does he win the US Open, but he won it with basically a broken leg (fractured tibia). Ridiculous.
- wTheOnew, on 06/19/2008, -0/+2I'm lost. How does Will Smith factor into this again?
- bluemist, on 06/19/2008, -0/+2What the, you think he faked losing?
- liberta, on 06/22/2008, -0/+1Tiger rules

- piratearggghhh, on 06/19/2008, -2/+3Tiger's done so much for golf - I think it's even more popular than hockey now in the U.S. This is going by the times I've seen golf vs. hockey on TV.
- wTheOnew, on 06/19/2008, -0/+1I like when non-golfers make comments like that. They truly don't know how difficult this game is, and how especially difficult it is to be good consistently. Woods is the best athlete of this decade easy, and that very well may turn into the best of this century.
- Barackalypse, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1It isn't about difficulty, it is about the fact that you are effectively competing against yourself, there are only physical forces standing between you and victory. Compare that to Jordan who had to contend with both gravity and 5 other phenomenal athletes trying to stop him from succeeding. Golf lacks conflict, your opponent has no direct way of shutting you down like in most other sports.

Your conclusion was a little shaky, and might I add that you should lessen up on the cliches once in a while. Overall though, a great paper.
Good writing FlyTrap! - Flytrap, on 06/19/2008, -1/+2Every now and then, in every sport, an athlete arrives on the scene and changes the publics perception of the sport. These men and women need not be superheros, but the public fixates upon them and they come to define the sport for the casual observer (of course the perceptions of existing fans of the sport remain unchanged because they are typically informed by more fundamental issues and not necessarily the arrival of a new glamor boy or girl)
Some sporting disciplines actually seek out these opportunities to expand their reach and have turned the elevation of such athletes into superheros not just for their teams, but for the sport in general into an art form. The Americans have done well in this regard. For example, the NBA used Micheal Jordan to turn the NBA into a global phenomenon (or course the Bulls also benefited directly from having Jordan in their service).
The Golfing fraternity haven't quite figured out how to use the rush the public gets out of seeing Tiger on the golf course to the advantage of the entire sport - perhaps this is because golf is not a franchise like many other team or league based sporting disciplines, and attempting to elevate Tiger above his peers in a bid to get more TV viewership and change expand the sport beyond its traditional audience might not go down very well. The same applies in tennis (although a feeble was made by the Argentinian tennis federation to capitalise on the gorgeous Gabriella Sebatina grand slam success to expand the sports popularity in the country)
Of course this can backfire as we saw with Michael Schumacher in formula 1. Shumacher certainly helped to elevate the sport and helped move it out of the sport pages or racing magazines to the front pages of the mainstream press. However, the FIA went too far, in a bid to ensure that Schumacher stayed in the headlines at the end of each race, they began stacking the odds in his favour - overlooking on track infringements, for instance.
Anyway, I digress. The reality is that Tiger Woods has influenced the public's perception of the sport (for better or for worse, it doesn't matter). This is evidenced by the increasing prize money that is now on offer - this, by the way it always a good lead indicator that the human catalyst being used to drive the sports popularity is working. One can now arrive at work and say "...did you see that 14 metre putt on the 17th?" and expect most people in the immediate vicinity to understand what that meant; and if Tiger was the one making the putt to have actually seen it, at least on television. - infinitesnowboy, on 06/19/2008, -3/+3Well, he's injured right now. When he comes back he's going to be 32 or so. Nicklaus won 6 after he was 33 years old. So..... 20 or 25 isn't a good guess.
- wTheOnew, on 06/19/2008, -1/+1Man cries because he can't even do that.
- robmiller99, on 12/02/2008, -0/+0He is the best golfer in the world overall. You cant beat him

Golf Reviews By Us
http://www.golfreviewsbyus.com - halogenik, on 06/19/2008, -2/+1I know I'm gonna get dug down to hell, but I think the guy's a complete dick. Every time I watch a Tiger match he's either yelling at some random guy not to take his picture while he swings, throwing his golf club ad cursing at whoever when he makes a bad shot, and giving the fans a condescending wave in between holes.
I'll be the first to admit that I haven't followed golf at all before he came, much less played it and I still don't that much, so the yelling and throwing the club after a shot is understandable because it's frustrating to miss a shot, but come on he's a professional. There's no need for all that.
I was really pulling for Rocco on Monday, I was sad to see him lose. - benroy, on 06/19/2008, -2/+1All other Golfers may as well give up at this point.
The Swiss will develop a hybrid Tiger Woods / Will Smith juggernaut that will forever dominate any and every golf related game until the end of time.
Wiger Smoods will also dominaite at whack-a-mole. - Barackalypse, on 06/19/2008, -1/+1To think if an athlete in a real sport like football or soccer had his level of talent. It would make for some interesting highlight clips.
- winebuyz, on 07/07/2008, -1/+0Without a doubt, Tiger is a great golfer. Perhaps the greatest golfer ever. But let's not be too quick to anoint him yet. Competition makes a victory and it measures the greatness of a champion. Tiger may be playing in an era of golf with perhaps the least competition of any era. Who are his biggest challengers and how many majors have they won? Mickelson, Els, and Singh are the only golfers who compete with Woods who have three majors. Nobody is Tiger's era has more than three majors. A few more have two majors. Consider the era in which Nicklaus played. Who were his compeitors: Palmer, Player, Trevino, Watson, Casper, Floyd - and these are just the guys who won four or more majors. There is no comparison. For a complete discussion, here's an interesting article: www.realmanmag.com
- aenegeling, on 06/19/2008, -2/+1Brilliant golfer. Still, his coming back to win against the odds in such an awesome fashion has me thinking that it could be related to a sponsor/advertising related deal. What better way to draw viewers than to lead people to believe he's losing his game a little.
- GordonClass, on 06/19/2008, -8/+0Great player too bad he acts like an ass.
- BarriedaleNick, on 06/19/2008, -13/+2Man hits ball with stick- fascinating!
