- ArticIce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This looks exactly like the one I bought at Target a few weeks ago for $40.00. I was stoked to get it home and try it. Unfortunately it was horrible. The courses and game play is similar to that of the first Golden Tee game and the response from the track ball made it even more frustrating. I ended up returning it and hopefully will save up about $700- 1500 dollars and buy a used one that's a year or two old.
- mamluk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I remember reading about a case where some guys where gaming the network play of Golden Tee- apparently they were using a belt sander when they teed off, resulting in insane drives. Pretty funny if you ask me, but I think they got into serious trouble due to fraud.
- stubadub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I saw one in the South Austin Target over the weekend. They are readily available.

- deacont23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Build a MAME box, I built a nice one for about $200, If I spent $75 more I could add a track ball and play the real golden tee.

- jlunski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3And how exactly are you going to "emulate" the roller ball? I doubt the Kensington roller mouse thingy is made to spin like the one included with the game.

Silly Europeans - hodgesg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's on amazon for $39.99
- Sixotoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh, yea you could order the $1000+ yearly course updates for your $39 Golden Tee. Please.. I bought a brand new GT and the company I bought it from didn't like it one bit that it was in my home. They get too much grief from the vendors when there are home versions.
- kevbryant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is awesome i really want one for ntsc
- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@jlunski: you can buy arcade trackballs and connect them to your p.c
- nstern2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can get the pc version for cheap and stick that on a mame cab. Thats what I did.
- kevinmoore, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1brjndr, you haven't checked out the newer MAME ROM sets, have you? GT2000 is in there, which is one of the newer generation GT games.
- brjndr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The latest golden tee roms are not available anywhere for emulation, just the really old first generation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Okay, I stopped at Target in Minneapolis last night. I picked one of these up for $40.
While it is a far cry from Golden Tee (other than the controls this really can't be called Golden Tee) it is still an okay game.
There's no Peter Jacobsen or Pat Sommerall. When you line up for your drive you don't see your player or club on the screen, just a few indicators and your ball. The putting is VERY simplistic using an animated aim indicator that make it impossible to miss.
I'm not sure that it is worth $40 as is (the course sucks - I only played match play so I don't know if there are more courses) but I think I am going to play it until I tire (give it a few days) and then I suspect I will rip it apart and use the controls for a MAME box. The buttons, hook and slice diagram and the trackball are nice to have in a single unit that could easily be adapted to a MAME box.
It's also good for practicing. Since the controls are exactly like Golden Tee it's a good way to brush up before going to the bar.
One very odd thing I did notice about it so far is that this little game has more realistic wind effects than the bar games.
I'd give it a 5 out of 10 - rampy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if the course and game play is right... you could replace the (presumably) cheapo trackball with a "real" golden tee one from happs or the like for less than 100 beans... assuming it's not the electronics that suck (i.e. not being able to read the light choppers fast enough).
Also if the trackball guts aren't too chinzy you maybe able to improve the trackball performance with replacement light choppers with more teeth from keywhiz (they sell keyboard encoders and misc arcade parts).
Arcade trackballs sometimes need to be broken in... just something to keep in mind... but I assume the problem is just cheapo construction, bushings instead of bearings, etc... - mV0G7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool. I may have to get this for my dad.
- kebagami, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0sweet...wish it were hooked to the golden tee network.
- The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Can we get confirmation... is this PAL only?
- rampy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this is pretty cool (about time they came out with this!)
An alternative approach would be to use an x-arcade track ball and the mame roms (or the ancient PC version of golden tee) http://www.myaffiliateprogram.com/u/xgaming/t.asp?id=1153
(non affilliate link: http://www.x-arcade.com/trackball.shtml )
I'm going to be upgrading my cabinet tonight to get golden tee to work... the onboard video I have installed currently can't keep up... http://ubercade.randomdrivel.com
No home arcade related post would be complete without a link to the awesome Arcade controls website: http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade.htm - chrissilvernail, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I doubt it is PAL only, since this has been on sale at Target for at least 2 months. Lame.
- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2*cough* emulation *cough*
- Sixotoo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2A brand new Golden Tee is actually over $5000. This is a cool toy but it would last about 3 minutes with anyone that has any skill at the game. The trackballs in the arcade machines have been known to shatter after a good hit.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Golden Tee? more like Golden Shower...
