- jotate, on 01/05/2009, -2/+65WTF? This article using the term "sonic boom" is tremendously misleading. No part of this articled suggested it the usual definition of a sonic boom that they're hearing as though the ball is being propelled passed the speed of sound. ***** this author.
- senseilmno, on 01/04/2009, -1/+33WHAT!? SPEAK LOUDER!! I'M ON THE 18th!
- Garmonbozzia, on 01/05/2009, -2/+29SONIC BOOM!!!
Had to throw a little shout out to Guile! - indubitably, on 01/05/2009, -4/+25i predict all of these comments will suck.
- screensnot, on 01/05/2009, -0/+19Not to mention that the evidence for this claim is one 55 yr old guy that noticed his new driver makes a different sound, around the same time that his doctor diagnosed some hearing loss.
It's obviously these new-fangled drivers, because 55 yr old men so rarely have hearing problems. - usefuljenkins, on 01/05/2009, -1/+16This is my BOOMSTICK!
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -1/+15Man, where can I purchase one of these drivers?
- Murdats, on 01/05/2009, -0/+10thats what you get from daily mail/telegraph - misleading garbage
- lepetitmousse, on 01/05/2009, -0/+9Holy ***** one golfer had his hearing reduced when he used a modern club!
WE HAVE A TREND HERE PEOPLE
ALERT THE PRESS
THERE ARE ASSUMPTIONS TO BE MADE!
/sorry bout the caps - sonofashoe, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8It's official. The Telegraph will report anything anyone tells them.
- compgeek, on 01/05/2009, -0/+7this is complete *****. I don't even have to RTA to know this. a tiny little ping even if it were high enough pitched to be a mini sonic boom is going to do next to nothing first off and second off the impact of the club on the ball WOULD NOT produce a sonic boom anyways.
buried as ***** - retral, on 01/05/2009, -0/+6Sensational/misleading title.
Epic fail of an article. A gunshot will harm your hearing far more than any golf club. - UtOh, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5I love the part at the end where the golfing experts give their professional medical opinion on whether or not the club is loud enough to cause hearing loss
- ThatGeek, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5fore*
- WhoDoneIt, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5No, it's because my hands are usually cupping their ears, just ask your mom. :P
- jmnormand, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5we are all now dumber from having read this comment...
- inferno10, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4IT'S OVER 9000 dB!!!
- jmnormand, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4wait how often are you shooting your gun???
- AmyVernon, on 01/05/2009, -1/+5Wow. That's surreal.
- cJw314, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4I couldn't yell 'fore', 'cuz I was too busy mumblin' "There's no way it's gonna hit that guy..."
- bezz, on 01/05/2009, -1/+5Doesn't that guy's neighbor sell propane and propane accessories?
- rjhomuth, on 01/05/2009, -1/+5So if you accidentally slice the ball then you risk opening a black hole? I like this sport.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Butane is a bastard gas
- rukeypoo, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4Well it's a good thing weekend duffers don't catch the ball where they should on the club face. Then 90% of golfers would be deaf.
- jmnormand, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4well in all fairness most doctors recommend not getting shot in the head too.
- midbc, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4yeah cause a golf club is louder than a gun
- jhop, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3The warning should not be: "if you using a thin faced Titanium club...". It's basic common sense!!! If you frequently hear REALLY LOUD NOISES, then you're at risk! *****. Enough of this sensationalist *****.
Wear some earplugs if you're around loud noises. What relevance does a GOLF PROS opinion have to recommendation to wear ear plugs? Does a golf pro have knowledge about SPL? I doubt it. - humpdave, on 01/05/2009, -4/+7when your wood is that big, girls go deaf
- BetaRaySam, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Two pussy articles on one page.
Note the third hand smoke a few stories up.
Stupid *****. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3You have to go see a man by the name of Kahn Souphanousinphone
- houndeyex, on 01/05/2009, -4/+7Does this prove that some golfers are pansies?
- LanceUppercut, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3It is total bs. I don't have a tiger woods swing, but I do swing a driver about 112mph which gives me ballspeed of about 170ish. The sound is quite loud, and is actually slightly painful when hitting indoors to be fit for a driver using a vector acculaunch type system. I have hit well over 10,000 golf balls indoors in my life and my hearing is just fine.
Outdoors it definitely is no big deal. Anyways, sound is wasted energy that you would rather go into the ball, they should look into that.
The reason why drivers are louder is because the shell is larger, so it acts like a drum. Plus joe six-pack thinks a louder driver is a longer driver, and distance sells. - phishneslo, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3not even Tiger Woods could hit a ball 767.58 mph (or about one mile in five seconds (assuming they were playing in 68 degree dry conditions, at sea level, (say, Pebble Beach)), even with the "trampoline" effect, and the rebound speed of the golf ball.
i call B.S. - Abomonog, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3I'm calling *****.
These are golf clubs and not bullwhips. If people could strike a golfball hard enough for a sonic boom then the course would have hole distances ranging in the miles instead of yards. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3jmnormand, you're absolutely right. malschla's comment will end up making readers dumber.
- xieodeluxed, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Agreed. Buried.
- a3sax, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2not one mention of a decibel level. this article is *****.
- edebolt, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2will they be sold with Hello Kitty earplugs?
- newl, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2I've had the ping removed from all of my clubs to avoid problems such as this.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2All I hear when I play golf is dirt flying through the air, and people laughing...
- LexWalk, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2It turns out, golfing with Street Fighter's Guile is actually safer - unless he hits into a sandtrap.
SONICCCCCCC BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! - itlnstln, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2The follow-up story will be about how golf club induced sonic booms cause cancer.
- bekindin09, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Perhaps the dicks in your mouth are blocking your pereception, would you rather have wal mart's and starbucks on that land, at least it is clean and scenic
- lynchjo, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2People, it's the Indian, NOT the arrow!! Even if the new drivers create a sonic boom, you still need a fundamentally sound swing or you're just gonna hit the ball further into the woods.
We compare & review simple golf swing methods to give golfers a perfect golf swing. Shave 7 to 10 strokes off your game with the simple golf swing, Four Magic Moves & more. =>

- iMick, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Say golf backwards and what does it spell...............?
- hobbla, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Guile is mentioned nowhere in this article. Inaccurate.
- adamk0310, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2It's always been a pretty unpleasant sound as I was taught on old-school persimmon "woods".
Fast forward to 2109: Hey, Bob, pass me my 1-titanium. - leesw, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2If it hits the ball another ten yards it might be worth it. Well....no, not really. A sonic boom? Really?! That's kind of cool.
- LordSeth, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2No wonder I never get any exercise. Look at all the dangers from leaving the house. I will stick my Home Entertainment System thank you. *Turns Volume Up to Annoy Neighbors*
