- ZombieSociety, on 11/05/2008, -1/+7Probably the third greatest scene in cinematic history:
"You eat pieces of ***** for breakfast?"
"............NO?! .........I...........*walks away*" - robdiggity, on 11/05/2008, -1/+6- Chubbs, 1996
- waynechng, on 11/05/2008, -0/+4Sounds like the best swing acts like a counter-weight trebuchet ...
- smacksaw, on 11/05/2008, -1/+5Not only is it in the hips, but it's the dropping of the hips. I was usually good for about a 275 yard drive, but after taking aikido I started to tinker with my swing. After, I could drive it 325 yards.
What I did was drop my hips right before I connect with the ball...they say to "unwind" your swing, but I did it more like unwind and screw down, like I was going into the ground. It helped lower my centre of gravity and I was more stable on the balls of my feet. I had to change my point of impact, like when you're trying to make bite, but it worked.
I figure it adds in a little extra speed, keeps the torque motion of the unwinding of the body going and helps rip it on the way out as I come back up to finish my swing. Try it! It's not just in the turn of the hips, but in the full winding, and dropping your hips and slightly bending your knees when you follow through gives you extra torque. - Soave, on 11/05/2008, -1/+4Hahah same comment I came here to make. Love that movie.
- tm13lke, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2There is no perfect golf swing. My old coach had the ugliest swing ever and hit the ball better than most people I've seen.
- hugopolsky, on 11/05/2008, -1/+3so jacking off isn't good for anything?
- Stavrosian, on 11/05/2008, -2/+4So his big tip for a longer drive is to make sure that the club head speed reaches its maximum on impact with the ball.
Thanks for the research, Newton. - divinediva, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2What is this secret move you ask?.
- greenfee, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2Interesting stuff but I think I'd have been more impressed if it hadn't been based on the swings of three pros in 1968! The golf swing has come on a long way in forty years.
- isuisorisuaint, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2i've been playing since i was 16 and i still have a tough time breaking 90. ***** THING SUCKS!
- ToastedZergling, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1The last time I went to a driving range, it was the first time holding a golf club in maybe 4 years, and I never went reguarly. Being a programmer, I don't have calluses on my hands, so I after 2 swings I had to put on kevlar work gloves. Still, somehow I was driving the ball 250+ yards sometimes.
So, I agree with this article that proper form is not essential. I pretty much swung at a golf ball with the same approach I would baseball. Time with shoulders, drill with arms, use wrists to fine tune direction. - shauncorleone, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1Wow, this is a pleasant surprise to see a golf-related story on Digg. However, it seems pretty obvious to anyone who's tinkered with their swing that the arms are not the important part. Too many people focus on their arm movements, when it's really shoulders and turning hips that are supposed to do the the work. Focusing on moving your arms rather than letting them move naturally only hurts you.
On a related note, look up the No-Backswing swing on golf.com. Interesting concept, and playing with it I didn't lose any noticeable distance. - jlebrech, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1It's kinda obvious that the peak power should be on contact with the ball!!
- callinthelaw69, on 11/05/2008, -1/+2of course not it's the hips....
- HowitZer25, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1The best shots happen when the player avoids thinking about the mechanics during the swing.
- bogart27, on 11/05/2008, -1/+2Haven't commented on anything in months...but I totally came here just to say that!
- epsilonbass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1You're doing it wrong.
- epsilonbass, on 11/05/2008, -1/+2Me Three...
The only viable option is to digg him down so I can post "It's all in the hips!" And then the world will be at peace. - Wuss, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1I take ninjitsu classes, and now, I don't even need to use a club anymore. 340 yards, easily.
- 3leggedHorse, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1A smooth swing, good weight transference, and the "late Hit" with the wrists as it used to be called.
That is how I understood you got power and consistency. - casbar, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1Wow! Now that I have read this I'm sure my game will improve even more!! I think I will also get a new driver and some gps action to take with me. Who needs lessons anyway?? Watch the ***** out, Tiger!!
- ToastedZergling, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1Don't worry, one day they'll discover a potion to turn trolls back into humans!
- unorginalityftw, on 11/05/2008, -1/+1Some people just... really like golf?
- jeff600, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0Sounds like that Taly guy wasn't so far off when he proved to the Golf Channel guys that he could hit 300 yards drives without swinging his arms or something.
He said to screw using wrists. Remember that? http://taly.com/golfchanneldb.html - Alvaxyz, on 05/05/2009, -0/+0Not only is it in the hips, but it's the dropping of the hips. I think I can use this to improve my Golf swing.
