- connieLingus, on 11/24/2008, -1/+9there is only one way to get better at golf...play more. gadgets are for suckers looking for a shortcut that does not exist.
it's like losing weight...eat less. duh. - IHaveIssues, on 11/24/2008, -0/+6Well that and take a few lessons to correct your weaknesses.
- chriskzoo, on 11/24/2008, -0/+6There are two types of golfers: Those that buy every "revolutionary" gimmick that comes out that will shave 5 strokes off your score and those that are actually good golfers.
- lovemorgul, on 11/24/2008, -2/+7Since all golf clubs have some angular loft to their clubface, the struck ball will have backspin.
- MeatMountain, on 11/24/2008, -0/+5Oh yeah well I play with a rock and a big stick. Its REALLY hard to find my drives sometimes.
- mblanken, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4I just want a golf ball that is easy to find.
- ModernDayDarwin, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4Actually that school of thought is wrong. Practicing more only works if you are practicing correctly. If you're basic form is flawed, then the only thing you're doing is becoming better at doing it wrong. One of my pneumonics during my cognitive psych class was "practice does not make perfect, practice makes automaticity"
Which basically says practicing something doesn't make you perfect, it just makes whatever you're practicing become more automatic. If you're doing it wrong, then you're just becoming better at doing it wrong. - PerroLoco, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3My problem is that I stand too close to the ball.... after I hit it.
- rybrown, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3a putter actually has about 4 degrees of loft
- consoneo, on 11/24/2008, -1/+4Can't, they'll splinter :(
- pooljoe, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2So your saying you cant afford good clubs?
- cawpin, on 11/24/2008, -1/+3Causes a what? An "almost" top spin? Yeah, ALMOST. It's still backspinning.
- LogicBomB, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2I thought golf was about drinking and smoking? I think I'm doing it wrong...
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -3/+5I prefer the oldschool wooden clubs. Anyone can drive it 250 yds with the latest technology. Try that with my clubs.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -1/+3It's the position of your hands relative to the club head and the back swing that determine the type and amount of spin. The angle of the club face is designed to determine loft, not spin. The first comment is very inaccurate.
- scotinus, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Oh great. So when they create the perfect golf ball, I'll have one less excuse why I suck.
- pooljoe, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2"If you're doing it wrong, then you're just becoming better at doing it wrong." Well said, you need to learn the correct mechanics and practice those to improve. I play competitive billiards and spending 8 hrs a day playing is useless if I'm doing the same wrong thing over and over again
- bdsams, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2i prefer to not count a few strokes...makes me shoot par everytime
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd? didn't they also make Mr Sparkle?
- cawpin, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Normally, I'd agree. However, I didn't play for almost 5 years at one point and went to the range with a guy a worked with because he was a qualified Golf Pro. I just wanted him to help me get rid of the dreaded slice that I had. I lined up and whacked it 250 yards dead straight. He said, "I don't see a problem." I hadn't played in so long I'd forgotten my swing.
- scoot2006, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1The only thing that's going to take 5 strokes off your game from this is the placebo effect.
- maggoty, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1I'm surprised no one has made a golf ball with a key finding type device built in. Now that would be brilliant since I'm always hitting into the trees and struggling to find my ball.
- Hockey37, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Lie.
- GraceHead, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1i call shenanigans!
- cougar3429, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1My weakness is cake.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1I for one know that buying an expensive golf ball will not improve my game enough to justify the additional $30-$40 per dozen. This is true of most golfers wasting their money thinking they'll get an additional 20 yards when they can't even keep their drives within a 30 yard spread.
- GraceHead, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1that guy on the video sounds like a computer generated voice ... but it isn't one.
- dsmx, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1That's easy practice and get it to land on the fairway.
- cawpin, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2No he doesn't. He hits a slight draw, which reduced the amount of backspin.
- OMnicient, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Where you place the ball in your stance has a bit to do with it, too.
- pooljoe, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1I have erasers for sale...If used correctly I GUARANTEE at least a 5 stroke improvement in your game.

10134 - Scrappy1850, on 11/24/2008, -3/+4tiger gets top spin. thats part of his swing that sets him apart.
- mrswirl, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Cause if you're like me and can only hit the ball 200 yards with the driver it helps to actually be somewhat near the green within 4-5 strokes. Long par 5s suck for me because I know that even if I'm hitting them straight the best I can hope for is to walk away with bogey
When it takes 2 shots to equal the same distance as one shot from your buddy, you need all the help you can get. - yournamehere, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1No, eating less doesn't really help you since your body will go into starvation mode. Once it does that you will lose weight however your body will store more of a percentage when you eat regularly again and regain your weight easily, even surpass it.
You need to eat more meals a day (5 is the general rule) with less amount for each. That kicks in your metabolism. - cawpin, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Depending on where you're at, 5 strokes could do a hell of a lot.
- CraigB12, on 11/24/2008, -3/+4That couldn't be more wrong. Especially in the case of a driver. My driver has a lost of 9.5 degrees, but on my swing I place my hands about 1 foot in front of the club face. This causes an almost top-spin effect, but I agree that the idea of balls not rotating in the air is *****.
- binderhead, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Can somebody tell me why you want to hit the ball further? You just have to walk that much further to go and find the damn thing. And even then, being 50 yds from the hole isn't necessarily any better than 75 yds to go. It don't count till its in the hole!
- DirtyBinLV, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Dammit, it was Morbo. Geek fail.
- Yellowspaceman, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Sumitomo Rubber Industries has a subsidiary "SRI sports" that owns Srixon and Cleveland golf. I loved that Mr. Sparkle episode, but had to mention the real sumitomo connection as one of my buddies swears by his Srixon set.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -2/+2Is this an advertisement? There was no proof cited that this design is better.
- DirtyBinLV, on 11/24/2008, -1/+1"Two forces affect the flight and distance of flying spheres: gravity and aerodynamics. Eventually, gravity wins once the momentum of the ball is slowed by the aerodynamic drag."
I know one journalist that didn't pay attention in high school physics. Pretty weak for LiveScience.com.
Cue Futurama's Lurrr- "Windmills don't work that way" - captdonno, on 11/24/2008, -1/+1that's it, take MORE skill out of the game. keep on cracking science!! morons...
- WillisDM, on 11/24/2008, -0/+0I get your point, but that would be Morbo.
But per the story, the golf ball was perfected and banned decades ago. -
