- psyphen, on 03/17/2008, -0/+21anybody else not find it the slightest bit sad that the first imagined use of this technology is for ipods and blackberries?
- inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+10 [200 years later, Marge's giant Homer sculpture is on show in a museum]
Spacewoman: This is the last known piece of art before the collapse of Western civilization.
Spaceman: If only we'd known that iPods would unite to enslave the people they entertained.
[Outside the dome, giant iPods are whipping a group of humans.]
Slave: What do you want?!
iPod: Nothing, we just like whipping! - dolphus, on 03/17/2008, -0/+5Interesting. It sounds similar to the sea cucumber 'self-healing' rubber research performed in France.
- tylermenezes, on 03/17/2008, -0/+4The plastic will genetically mend itself? I wasn't aware iPods had genes!
- farboo, on 03/17/2008, -1/+4My crack is self-mending too!
- cricketsymphony, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3anyone else bothered by otherwise-competent articles summing themselves up with hairbrained 'what-ifs' that beg the question like no other? this article has nothing to do with ipods and blackberries, yet it's reduced to sounding like it is.
- inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2It wasn't...That was just one idiot saying that. I have been reading about this for years. One of hte big things is for aircraft parts that develop small cracks from time to time. Cracks that don't necessarily cause an immediate danger right away, but would certainly be better off if they "healed" themselves until hye could be properly repaired fully.
- RobSaint, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1That could be cool as a table covering to power small devices.
- inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1T1000?
- portos12, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Is that so?
http://www.bestipodtips.info/ - ZombieSociety, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1Maybe first they could make it so my Blackberry gets decent reception.
- portos12, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Is that so?
http://www.bestipodtips.info/ - Yarkz, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1I could use this, my Ipod is is destroyed, I can't even go over the touch wheel smoothly from some extremely deep scratches, even though I have tortured it though the internal parts are amazing they won't die lol (it's a 30 gig 5.5 Video Ipod if anyone cares).

http://www.bestipodtips.info/ - inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1Um what's that growing in your pocket???
- witooo, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1This technology would allow for that "healing" to be all that's needed. The "cracks" would be totally repaired with no need for further maintenance.
- portos12, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Is that so?
http://www.bestipodtips.info/ - inactive, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1iPhones make up a TINY percent of cell phones.
- inactive, on 03/17/2008, -1/+2So THAT's why Skynet's so hard to destroy.
- MrColdheart, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1PEOPLE the process by which these new materials mend has nothing to do with genetics.
I like the story but the user who submitted this should formulate his titles better.
- theWrkncacnter, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1AHHH! It's Nanotech!!!!! EVIL EVIL!!!
/sarcasm - TBoneFever, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1No, it's not sad. The first sentence of the article is
"An MIT materials scientist's research on sea snails has helped transform battery technology and may end the era when cell phones die if they're dropped and PDAs must be replaced if they get dunked in the tub."
Notice how it mentions PDAs and cell phones? - NaziHatinChimp, on 03/17/2008, -2/+2Isn't that what they used in Bioshock to get plasmids.
Well ok then but if my iPod turns into an iSplicer I am out. - robfitzonbass, on 03/17/2008, -1/+0Just as long as iPhone can't genetically mend its own hacks. Then we're all screwed.
- utterer, on 03/17/2008, -1/+1I look forward to this becoming a 300$ order option on initial iPods with it only to watch it lower in price with future iPod revisions.
- DanOnTheMoon, on 03/17/2008, -3/+3Oh *****, a body for Skynet! Oh noes!
- McShr3dd3r, on 03/17/2008, -0/+0Does this mean my Blackberry could eventually turn into Optimus Prime's little brother?!!?

http://vb.paramegsoft.com/ - Chairboy, on 03/17/2008, -1/+1Oh good, instead of just charging the battery on my iPod, now I'll have to give it a bath, exfoliate it once in a while, put sunscreen on it in the summer (What _is_ the proper SPF for an iPod with an active lifestyle, anyway?) and more.
Wait... will it need to be fed? What if it acquires a taste for human blood? Is there no end to the madness? - dvdking, on 03/17/2008, -1/+0But would Steve Jobs approve of the required thicker battery?
