- superspud, on 07/24/2008, -3/+65How do you make someone '20%' more attractive? Is there a metric for attractiveness?
- SuperIntendo, on 07/24/2008, -1/+60This is irrelevant to me as its physically impossible to make me 20 percent more attractive.
- SolidSnak, on 07/24/2008, -2/+41Because your attractiveness equals 0 right?
- eyepatch100, on 07/24/2008, -0/+37Sorry New York Times, I can't be 120% attractive.
- SuperIntendo, on 07/24/2008, -0/+27Touché.
- tehcobra, on 07/24/2008, -1/+22*Self Esteem drops 20%*
- Regulator980, on 07/24/2008, -0/+21From the article:
"Such internalized photoshoppery..."
Wait, this passes as acceptable writing at the New York Times? - N1tro, on 07/24/2008, -2/+22buried for a harsh reality...
- lamiaconfitor, on 07/24/2008, -0/+13Oh the other hand, experiments have proven that individuals are not perceived as fat as they are in real life. Perception in a funny thing. I would also like to note that people don't look at you as closely as you would look at yourself in a mirror.
- lamiaconfitor, on 07/24/2008, -5/+18they probably did a survey, but taste is always subjective. Like how I think Angelina Jolie looks like a tranny.
- MudMan69, on 07/24/2008, -0/+8Great, now I'm 20% uglier than I already thought I was.
- estacado, on 07/24/2008, -0/+7Same goes with your own voice. How you hear yourself and other people hear you is very different. I hate it when I hear my own voice recording.
- lamiaconfitor, on 07/24/2008, -1/+8Your mom is.
...and before you pick on me for being childish, re-read your comment. - neko6, on 07/24/2008, -0/+7Yes, Symmetry and smoothness.
- Galaxylander, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6Man, what about the people who think of themselves as ugly when they're good looking? They must really, really hate themselves now. Ouch!
- 3tcp, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5I find it hard to believe that mirrors make someone work harder. It would be distracting because I'd use a dry erase marker on the mirror to draw mustaches and stuff on my face.
- MtheoryX, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5Bilateral symmetry of the face is the number one indicator of beauty. So I've heard anyway.
- Mononuclear, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6were the images mirror imaged or not? Much like your voice sounds very different when you hear a recording. What you see in the mirror and what everyone else sees/what you see from a camera pic are also very different.
With technology I think we should use cameras and giant displays instead of mirrors. This would allow zoom for shaving etc. You would also have the option for regular image or mirror image. Regular would let you see you how the world does and with a little getting used to you can shave normal. The only reason using mirror images to comb your hair etc seems more natural is because you grew up with it and your brain is trained. - Canadian0207, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4every bitch at the bar should read this article
- Kormiku, on 07/24/2008, -2/+6she looks like an alien
- EtherGnat, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3I think it's a little disingenuous how they phrase it. Your image *will* get smaller in the mirror, but at the same rate as the circle you drew. As for the "half the size" bit it might be more intuitive to realize that your face looks twice as far away as the mirror due to the reflection (in other words if you're three feet from the mirror it looks like you're looking at a person six feet away) thus making it half the size.
- pandaro, on 07/24/2008, -1/+4I think it sounds fairly scientific, what's the problem?
- Sebach, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3http://chardonbertrand.free.fr/MirrorFive.jpg
- zip000, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3I've always thought that she was very overrated...I mean she certainly has some nice...um...features...but overall, she doesn't do that much for me.
Well, she's hot - she's just not the super hottie that everyone makes her out to be IMHO. - PhantomBantam, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3http://duggmirror.com/general_sciences/You_re_Not_ ...
20% more attractive layout. - lefthandpisces, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Dugg, but this article takes waaay too long to get to the point of the scientific study.
- ellecon, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Even if you're freaking Angelina Jolie, there will be people who think you're unattractive. The lesson is not to care so much about what other people think. If you see yourself as 20% more beautiful, good for you!
- mrgreenjeans, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2I always thought she was hot until I found her dad was Jon Voight and how much they look alike.
It's like you're fappin' to Jon Voight.
http://extratv.warnerbros.com/images/news/1008joli ... - LLLSecretChimp, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2The sound of your own voice you're used to hearing is a combination of what others hear and effect of your skull resonating as you speak. What you're hearing is genuinely different than what others hear when you speak.
It is odd that nobody seems to prefer the voice other people hear. The only exception I can think of is Pavorotti, who in his prime, could recognize his voice as being that of a great tenor, and would listen to recordings of himself just as he would other singers. - feoren, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1My butthole hurts.
Just a thought... - feoren, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Good, it should be acceptable writing. Too many people think writing and reading well is about knowing lots of correct words and using them properly. It's not. At all. Actually, when I read that word it made me think about how cool English is.
- lamiaconfitor, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I hope you get more diggs then me...you deserve them for originality.
- Seth024, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1I didn't get it at first either.
Don't compare the size of the face or the size of the angle that you see the face. Look at the length of the red line on the mirror. That is half your face size and remains the same if you step back. (see picture) - mrgreenjeans, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I didn't get it either, then I tried it...WTF!
- prabjot, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1no matter what's said ! my cup is always half full...
- zip000, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Can someone explain that bit on the second page about the size of your face in a mirror? This part:
"Outline your face on a mirror, and you will find it to be exactly half the size of your real face. Step back as much as you please, and the size of that outlined oval will not change: it will remain half the size of your face (or half the size of whatever part of your body you are looking at), even as the background scene reflected in the mirror steadily changes. Importantly, this half-size rule does not apply to the image of someone else moving about the room. If you sit still by the mirror, and a friend approaches or moves away, the size of the person’s image in the mirror will grow or shrink as our innate sense says it should."
How can your face be the same size if you move away from the mirror, but other people's faces change sizes...I'm just not getting what they're trying to say. - LLLSecretChimp, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1You're right. Now I'm 37% suspicious of the study results.
- schweinehundXX, on 07/24/2008, -3/+3no "mirror?" jokes?
- scolasanti, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0i agree, i think i sound like a man when i here my voice in a message or something.
- diceau, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1You must be new to the net, welcome, and try not to take things too seriously.
- JCPahl, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1Buried for inaccuracy.
/s - aceinhibitor, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0I don't care because I'm Dorian Gray.
- muzjik, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0you missed the point of his "no mirror jokes" statement, he meant as in mirrors to the file as if they were down. wooow
- phanthommania, on 12/01/2008, -0/+0http://bakuganballforsale.co.cc
- Galaxylander, on 07/24/2008, -2/+2Pics or it didn't happen.
- barwise, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0Yes, because writing such a thing is actually "externalized douchebaggery", so it all makes sense.
- scolasanti, on 07/24/2008, -1/+0beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
- scolasanti, on 07/24/2008, -1/+0that was a really bad joke. sorry.
