http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8hlj4EbdsE- dsmx, on 05/11/2008, -1/+2I'm struggling to work out why anyone would want it. Sure it's impressive but how long does it take to reload? Also due to the way it works you have to have a low muzzle velocity which reduces it's range. Essentially it is a modern form of the volley gun.
- Sirlolalot, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2I remember a seeing documentary they mentioned either US or Australian navy were considering it as an anti-missile defence for ships
- dsmx, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Still doesn't change the fundamental design flaw in metal storm in that reloads are achieved by taking out the barrel and fitting a new one.

Also, she says "mind control" twelve times in the first five minutes of that video.

- trixterIreland, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3the corner shot rifle is predated, during WWII hitler had a bent barrel rifle made which could fire around corners. I lacked the lcd, camera and ability to shoot straight or around a corner, but it was the first known "corner shot" rifle.
So far all of these weapons were featured on a national geographic program (at least here in NL), which makes me think someone saw that show and decided to write an article about it rather than writing on something new.- WaveyRavey, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1"I lacked the lcd, camera and ability to shoot straight or around a corner"
It lacked the ability to shoot around a corner? Then surely it is not a "corner shot rifle". In fact If it couldnt even shoot straight, then i also doubt that it could be classed as a gun.- IAmTomCruise, on 05/12/2008, -0/+0It was still effective, because when the bullet traveled at the corner it broke into pieces of shrapnel.
- WaveyRavey, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1"I lacked the lcd, camera and ability to shoot straight or around a corner"
- shig, on 05/11/2008, -1/+9The "Active Denial System" and the entire class of directed energy weapons are the most frightening. Imagine a robot capable of giving every mammal within a half-mile radius of it a seizure. The future is a very grim place and nukes are too old school and unreliable to be a legitimate threat. Commanders want 100% effectiveness and a clean battlespace.
By the way, the ADS and other DEW components will not make it to a military conflict without being tested on civilians domestically. At least that is what the commander of the the project says when he lobbies the government to use it at protests and rallies to avoid International law inside a combat zone. It can't be cruel and inhumane if we use it on ourselves, right? - nicksource, on 05/11/2008, -2/+2The gallery won't go past Page 2 for me?

United States Government are terrorists, war criminals, and horrific liars.

I assume that you are referring to the very long half-life of U-238. In fact, this extremely long half-life means that U-238 emits radiation of a very low intensity, one that is almost completely harmless. Remember that we are exposed to background radiation every day, from e.g. cosmic rays and radioactive compounds in the ground. DU is hardly more dangerous than these, from a radiation standpoint.
On the other hand, DU is chemically toxic. The toxicity is a much more serious threat than its pretty light radiation, although it isn't as toxic as e.g. arsenic or mercury. - Yuska, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1I'm getting tired of reading your conspiracy theories every time I read a story on Digg..
- usgovterrorists, on 05/11/2008, -3/+1Depleted Uranium is WMD!
Tell the soldier the truth about Depleted Uranium, and the soldier won't go to war.
It's too bad the soldier doesn't know, Depleted Uranium kills, and the soldier is expendable.
350 tons used in the first Gulf War, and the current Iraq war has expended an estimated 5 times more tonnage of DU than was used in the first Gulf War.
The U.S. has used more depleted uranium since 1991 than the atomicity equivalent of 400,000 Nagasaki bombs.
Since 1943 the military has been aware of the extreme toxicity of uranium as a gas.
Of the veterans who served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, more than 300,000 have sought VA healthcare, and more than 200,000 have filed VA disability claims.
518,000 Gulf-era vets in 2004 are now on medical disability.
Four reasons why using depleted uranium weapons violates the UN Convention on Human Rights:
LEGALITY TEST FOR WEAPONS UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW
Four reasons why using depleted uranium weapons violates the UN Convention on Human Rights:
TEMPORAL TEST – Weapons must not continue to act after the battle is over.
ENVIRONMENTAL TEST – Weapons must not be unduly harmful to the environment.
TERRITORIAL TEST – Weapons must not act off of the battlefield.
HUMANENESS TEST – Weapons must not kill or wound inhumanly.
