- fluidfoundation, on 07/16/2009, -1/+10The limb up there looks like delicious, delicious ancient bacon.
- immatellyouwhat, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5That's why I tattooed "Bayer" on my chest.... just in case.
- ausfahrt, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Nope
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -2/+6I actually have a 'jailhouse' style tattoo done with soot. It makes a very good true black color that's hard to get naturally. Most inks are either red or blue toned hence the ugly old school blue/black tats so many people have. A few drops of water with clean soot or ash is also a less invasive ink in that the base is natural.
- ChronicColonic, on 07/17/2009, -2/+5...and their parents were pissed at them back then too.
- Kugelblitze, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2Exactly what I was thinking. Spot on.
- 13tuba, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2"Belonging to Ötzi the 5300 year old Tyrolean iceman, the simple tattoos may have served a medicinal purpose, not a decorative one..." Doesn't give any reasons or explanation on that... rather disappointing.
- dptechie, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Or maybe he's teriyaki style.
- jehan60188, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2that's also how they do tattoos in prison!
- LoveAndSeagulls, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2what i really wanted to know when i was reading this submission was whether soot "tattoos" actually hold any health benefits like the icemen thought...
- ebcreasoner, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1... ,but then man say,"Tattoo make dick big!" BRILLIANT!!
- diggitydoc, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1just like in prison!
- JasonvonEvil, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1I always figured the first tattoo in history would have been a tramp stamp. Cavewomen were huge sluts.
- DRNOOO, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1and in jail they use cigarette ashes and milk! Well at least they did until they stopped allowing smoking in Jails in Canada at least.
- SilverBack101, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Mama Otzi: Otzi! You better get that tattoo removed this instance or you're out of this house mister!
Father Otzi: Listen to your mother, Otzi!! Don't make me get my beating stick!
Otzi: That's it I'm running away from home! You'll never see me again! *waaaaaaah*
Poor Otzi was never seen again until modern man stumbled upon his corpse. :( - kaidovak, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1mercury and lead exist in nature too
- robbob, on 07/17/2009, -3/+2for most, tattoos are a fad that fades but will never go away
- ebcreasoner, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1That's an interesting theory. More info?
- fraglerock, on 07/17/2009, -1/+1Nobody knows what the Iceman thought. Likely, it was something like "OMG I'M GONNA DIE!" or "Fuk I'm cold!" but i digress.
The scientists suggest the possibility of a medicinal use because some tats were close to acupuncture points. To support this theory they would need evidence the Iceman had knowledge about acupuncture. Needless to say I'm highly skeptical.
I think the tats are most likely decorative or ritual. - CYANOLYCA, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0 the article offers no explanation as to why the writer thought the tattoos might be medicinal -disappointing
- cHAosjiHAd, on 07/18/2009, -0/+0The tattoos were in locations where he had osteoporosis. This is why they speculate his tat's were 'medicinal'. Not a lot of information to go on, but that's how the scientific process starts, no?
- eatsleeptrumpet, on 07/17/2009, -6/+3Did anybody else see "SNOT"?
- BukkakeFellatio, on 07/17/2009, -7/+1They still look just as trashy as the hippies who wear them.
