- alanocu, on 06/30/2009, -3/+31a small photo of desert rhubarb: http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/45773000/jpg ...
- razorc03, on 06/30/2009, -1/+29"Self-watering?" That's like drinking your own pee
- kurtzmoo, on 06/30/2009, -0/+24It's about time these plants start taking care of themselves!
- richmomz, on 06/30/2009, -1/+22I think the term 'self watering' is a bit confusing (makes it sound like it generates its own water or something), although its method of catching and retaining water before it hits the ground is pretty neat (as opposed to other desert plants that just have shallow- wide spread roots like a cactus).
- realeskimopimp, on 06/30/2009, -1/+19Now all we need is grass that cuts itself?
- EddiePotato, on 06/30/2009, -0/+16I'd call it outright misleading rather than confusing. A self-watering plant wouldn't rely 100% on the water in its immediate environment, but this one clearly does.
- EthylAdded, on 06/30/2009, -0/+15Better article with pictures

Online newspapers that don't provide graphics or links will go extinct like the pea-brained dinosaurs that run them. - gbudavid, on 06/30/2009, -2/+15Pretty Cool Stuff
- godfly, on 06/30/2009, -0/+13Man. I just love articles describing something with no pics. Such lazy editors. Anyway, here's a good picture http://www.tiuli.com/flowers/ribas_hamidbar.jpg
- NotYourProdigy, on 06/30/2009, -1/+14No pics? When was this written, the 90s?
- urik88, on 06/30/2009, -1/+13In before some idiot trying to connect a botanics article with a political situation in the area.
- flossdaily, on 06/30/2009, -1/+8A plant with leaves designed to collect water? This is supposed to be new and unique? WTF?
- DrJen, on 06/30/2009, -3/+10FTA: Results of experiments and analysis of the plant's growth – in an area with an average annual rainfall of 75mm – showed that the desert rhubarb is able to harvest quantities of water that are closer to that of Mediterranean plants, reaching up to 426mm per year.

Wow!! - Ymeg, on 06/30/2009, -2/+9Did you have to make this political?
- Banda7, on 06/30/2009, -0/+6It really is the holy land!
- EddiePotato, on 06/30/2009, -1/+6bluegrass
- Imissnaptime, on 06/30/2009, -1/+6not sure if that is a question?
- codyodell, on 06/30/2009, -0/+5And I was thinking to myself, Surely no one has something smart-ass to say about a plant.
- EddiePotato, on 06/30/2009, -0/+5Self-viewing pics.
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -9/+14I WET MYSELF CAN I HAS FRONT PAGE NAO PLZ

- tablunket, on 06/30/2009, -2/+6I just turn on a faucet.
- kurtzmoo, on 06/30/2009, -2/+5Not quite if you read the article, but go ahead and drink your own pee if you must.
- Raptor007, on 07/01/2009, -0/+3Don't you mean "In after..."?
- playuhh, on 06/30/2009, -4/+7My mouth is self-watering for some In-N-Out right now.
- EddiePotato, on 06/30/2009, -1/+3Heh, you're being buried for posting a legit pic! Some people...
- roymeo, on 06/30/2009, -2/+4Wow, there's not a single other plant that catches water and funnels it down to the ground near its roots? Don't many succulents do this? There's nothing in this article that makes me 'realize' that this is different from a lot of other plants.
- EddiePotato, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Because you saw what your hand was up to?
- dsuse15, on 07/01/2009, -0/+2Evolution really amazes me sometimes.
- threat42, on 06/30/2009, -2/+4I want to argue that all plants - all of them - are self-watering, what with their root system.
But I won't argue that. - Tanktunker, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Well, leaves designed to keep the water in constant flow to prevent evaporation, modelling ancient man-built irrigation systems.
- Nudar, on 07/01/2009, -1/+2God is a master inventor.
- ghinwachannel, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1wawwwww!!!!!! It is strange !!!!!!
- billski, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1It's so much easier not to, though
- Atario, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Welcome to News As It Is Spoke on the Internets.
- halo3d, on 06/30/2009, -1/+2Oh yes.. i would want that for my stupid lawn
- techlinks, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1So, after millions of years of "evolution", wouldn't it make sense for more than ONE plant to have the ability to essentially "funnel" water to its roots?
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -1/+2>>grass that cuts itself
I'd buy that for a dollar! - mkNix, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1At least he's greater than you'll ever be
- NotYourProdigy, on 07/01/2009, -1/+2No. More because in the 90s, dial up was the dominant connection.
- Tanktunker, on 06/30/2009, -1/+2Israel's engineers are scouring the desert looking for pretty flowers with which to make Iranians jealous and therefore bring an end to the tyrannical Persian empire!
I read it on infowars! - kviepr, on 07/01/2009, -0/+0amazing plants are nothing new. Check out these just as amazing plants:
http://www.americasheartland.org/episodes/episode_ ... - inactive, on 07/01/2009, -1/+1"while stopping it evaporating."
i'm so sick of people not editing their articles. - Calebros, on 07/01/2009, -0/+0With these plants, we can finally make our dream of a paradise planet of Arrakis come true!
- billski, on 07/01/2009, -1/+1Dugg for Double Double, animal style
- Nudar, on 07/01/2009, -1/+1Because in the 90s the camera had not yet been invented. I get it.
- nicehatdude, on 07/01/2009, -0/+0As yet, there are no reported plans to build a settlement on this plant.
- solid12345, on 07/01/2009, -1/+1Horrible offensive but I lul'ed
