- theholotrope, on 10/10/2007, -1/+102This is so true. My girlfriend gets bitten all the time while other people are completely clean...
Ok fine, I don't have a girlfriend. - crapmatic, on 10/10/2007, -7/+26What's a girlfriend?
- raftytaffy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I get bitten left and right, sometimes one of those savage animals will fly into my house and attack me. I try to chase it around, but usually end up breaking stuff, and never catching it. DOWN WITH SKEETERS!
- BrandonPerry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12What, you don't already?
- quadvods, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Ill donate some of my sweat to a research team... I never get bitten.
On the other hand... I could just sell it to people on ebay in bottles... they could spray it on themselves and the mozzies would get lost. Cunning.. now all I need is a sauna. - istatic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14There's a skeeter on my peter, wack it off, wack it off.
- okpgreg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You should have used the word "words".
- maotx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I think it also has to do with the region that you live in.
I grew up in the southern US and never had a major problem with the mosquitoes, even in areas where my friends were being eaten alive. However, on travel I have been in one instance that I was the main dinner course for the mosquitoes. My personal experiences show that even though I may be fairly immune to them in one region of the country, in another area I am completely fair game. - pault107, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I wonder what they're known as in Australia.
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6In Australia they're known as Mozzies...

- srgtTarantula, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'm like the opposite of you, i grew up in the southwest when i was a kid, and would get bitten all the time. I moved to Illinois over ten years ago and have not once had a bite up here, all my friends are jealous.
- RichieDagger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This is actually true...I used to get eaten alive, but since I've been getting the B-vitamins getting bit is a rarity for me. A great source is dessicated beef liver tablets.

- jta827, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Clute, Texas has an annual mosquito festival complete with a 15 foot tall inflatable mosquito and a BBQ cook-off if I'm not mistaken. True story.
- LordVance, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4It's some myth we learned back in high school.
((sorry crapmatic, buried you on accident- meant to digg) - Segment, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've always wondered why my wife gets bitten like mad, and I go basically un-bitten -- however when I'm alone, they attack me with a full force.
It's nice to see some positive news these days. Also nice to at least hope we can replace the very toxic deet chemical with hopefully something a bit more benign.
s - SheilaNoya, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Just move to Los Angeles. We don't have mosquitoes (maybe the smog kills them, or maybe it's just too dry for them?). Anyway, it sure is nice to be able to have dinner out on the patio at night, or relax around the pool in the evening without having to swat at bugs! I've lived in the Northeast and in the South, but I'll NEVER go back to either one because of the hot, humid weather and the mosquitoes.
- Spiffjiggins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I too enjoy the company of my wife when we go outdoors here in Nebraska. She smells like candy to them. When she's with me, they leave me alone...
- kbro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Speaking for all of us repeat mosquito victims .... I hate you!
- notmiya, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I live in Alaska where the mosquito is pretty much our state bird. I remember my friends telling me that bananas have a lot of potassium in it which attracts mosquitoes. I decided to look this up, and what I found mostly said that this was false. However wearing perfume/cologne, drinking beer, and even Limburger cheese are more attractive to mosquitoes. To prevent this I heard that Vanilla Extract works well, just soak it in a cotton ball and dab it over your body, including scalp/hair.
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well then it just sounds dirty. "They use their 'sensory organs' to decide who to suck on..."
- MellerTime, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dessicated beef liver tablets? Tell me those things taste better than they sound... How about I just take B vitamin supplements instead?
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0So now that we know this valuable information, can we have a bug spray that actually works? I never bother using any kind of repellent because it just makes you sticky and smelly in addition to the bugs that are all over you.
- mare88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+01)Mesh on all the windows (get the breeze and sunshine, keep the insects out)
Unfortunately, this makes watering the flowers (or getting them on to the window shelf in the first place) a bit... well, impossible ;) - DigbyBaintree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The key is somewhere in what vitamins or foods you ingest. One summer I was being megadosed vitamins prescribed by a clinic doing testing on me and I went off to summer camp. Everyone else needed a net over their bed. I never got bit that summer and stopped using the net.
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I hate mosquitoes... I'm gonna move to some place like LA only without the smog.
- Petrov101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Mosquitoes in New Hampshire can be lethal. EEE is no fun. Get the disease and there's nothing anyone can do as there's no cure. 3 in 10 who contract the disease die. Sucks.
- michellepeet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I wonder if you use a good antiperspirant http://www.sweating-treatment.com for your sweating, then are mosquitos going to bite you less? Because you don't sweat as much? And do people who excessively sweat attract more mosquitos?
- j0eb0nd7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0At my cottage we draw straws. The loser is prohibited from using bug spray. This method works really really well.
- 4ork, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Am I the only one that thought this article was terribly written?
- jcaino, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3people who eat bananas prior to venturing out-of-doors are also more susceptible.
it may say that in the article, but you shouldnt really expect me to read it. - ShakataGaNai, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I dont know why this is "news". I've spent plenty of time in Minnesota (Which for those that don't know -have TONS of 'squitos), and something that everyone up there tells me. In fact my mother side (native to Minnesota) - never bothered. My father on the other - swarms of mossy. Me? I get stuck somewhere in the middle. Genetics didn't favor me on this account. Some people say that the smell has to do with the amount of B vitamins you have, take more B vitamins and the mossys will leave you alone (this is of course if you take the vitamins for long enough).
- mstachiw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0i remember as a kid seeing something on Mr. Wizard about fat kids (people) eating bananas. Mosquitoes love overweight banana eating people.
- sodade, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Wake me when scientists figure out how to eradicate them altogether. In the meantime, I'll stay in New Mexico thanks...
- cklol, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3Mosquitos don't have "noses". He should have used the word "sensory organs".
- Me1on, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1I've always wondered about this. I go camping at least once each year, but I haven't been bitten once in my life. Everybody else in my family does, though.
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2In Australia they're known as Mozzies...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1I guess this means 1 day before you mow the lawn eat plenty of garlic/beans/eggs/spinach/tabasco :p
- psilanthropist, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2Dealing with mosquitoes 101:
1)Mesh on all the windows (get the breeze and sunshine, keep the insects out)
2)Buy on of them electric bats (pretty sure PETA is not going to sue you)
3)stock up on herbal repellants (chemical ones are not gud for the skin)
4)and if all else fails, move to Reykjavik
