- Seph7, on 04/30/2008, -0/+40Next earth day I'm going to become brain dead for a day to save power.
- slartibartphast, on 04/30/2008, -0/+34Screw the gym, I'm overclocking my brain to lose weight.
- Spuy767, on 04/30/2008, -1/+31Billions of neurons firing miions of times daily just to tread the water of consciousness. . .
- jcaino, on 04/30/2008, -2/+31Obviously our alien overlords have us running SETI as a cruel joke.
- poidh, on 04/30/2008, -1/+26Because it runs folding@home when you're asleep?
- Dundasbro, on 04/30/2008, -1/+21Which is more a testement to efficiency than actual power.
- redcosmic, on 04/30/2008, -0/+16Its weird that 30% of the energy we consume is used simply to pump sodium ions out of cells and pump potassium ions in. The Na/K ATPase pump is what makes mammalian life possible.
- redcosmic, on 04/30/2008, -0/+14What's wrong with the blood cooling system already installed?
- atact88, on 04/30/2008, -0/+13Apparently every day is earth day for a lot of folks...
- robthom, on 04/30/2008, -0/+11My brain runs on Burritos and Vodka.
- inactive, on 04/30/2008, -3/+13/sarcasm is unnecessary when everything on Digg is one big joke. Turn your sarcasm detector on and don't be an idiot.
- angelces, on 04/30/2008, -0/+10And some people don't even do that.
- Spuy767, on 04/30/2008, -4/+14Forget the /sarcasm tag?
- MadHarvey, on 04/30/2008, -0/+8You have a whole universe in there! It takes alot of power to run a universe..
- eggie015, on 04/30/2008, -1/+7because its yet to be made using a smaller manufacturing process....
- XIUgraag, on 04/30/2008, -3/+9Over in the US brains are used less.
- Protoss, on 04/30/2008, -2/+8I like it, you took maelnum's quasi-environmentalist comment, and turned it into an awesome burn against society.
Kudos sir, kudos! - synyster, on 04/30/2008, -2/+7you might consider get youself a water cooling system
- inactive, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4just upgrade to 45nm brain
- ninjadave, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4Because we're all really cylons.
- init100, on 04/30/2008, -1/+5He already has, it's called blood.
- inactive, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4Not really that weird if you think about it. 1 x 10^15 uPa of force is needed to overcome the electromagnetic force of matter/ fm² of area. Assume the surface area of a typical neuron to be 15 fm²; with say 1 x 10^8 neurons in a typical brain, you'll get a ***** load of energy requirement. Where ***** load = 1 x 10^12 Pa.
source: my sodium deficient brain. - init100, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4We know. How would someone like George W Bush get elected twice if the US populace used their brains?
- redcosmic, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3What about male horses? They don't have mammary glands. They do however, have many Na/K ATPase pumps :D
- dazparkour, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3His might be mostly alcohol, I hear that doesn't cool so well.
- inactive, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3NO UR BRIAN USES LESS
- Silentnite85, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3I'm not your guy, pal.
- directrix13, on 04/30/2008, -1/+4Based on that comment, you're not exactly a shining example from the North.
- diwanifa, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3why? maybe because its the ***** BRAIN.
- Spuy767, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2The wayyy he phrased that, I couldn't be sure if he was serious or not. Had he perhaps said, "God lovingly created each neuron in his own image, if would have been slightly more obvious."
- leerayIG88, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2hah, nice post. You win :=P
- inactive, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3We can buy more than 4 20lb bag here too. Just not at Sam's Club or Costco.
- inactive, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2I'm not your friend, guy!
- maelnum, on 04/30/2008, -5/+6Make everyday Earth Day!
- roberto_deneero, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1The good news out of all of this is that Microsoft programmers have been shown not to need so much food anymore...they don't think all that much, therefore don't need the energy.
- zeabu, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Over in the US brains are useless.
See, we can also make generalizations. - slayerab, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Everyday is earth day, because we're all here on earth, right?
- mentallyinhell, on 04/30/2008, -4/+5Ever seen a fat genius?
- Stevethegreat, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hume
- grayn1, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1This is still a very indirect measure. It is difficult to definitively say whether the energy changes are because of neuronal activity or that of other cells in the vicinity of the neurons (in blood vessel walls as blood flow increased to the active area, "helper" cells like glia, etc...)
- Seph7, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1I will do, I'll move down south and live with the penguins!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoZVeSq_kfc - nwoantibody, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1"Its weird that 30% of the energy we consume is used simply to pump sodium ions out of cells and pump potassium ions in. The Na/K ATPase pump is what makes mammalian life possible."
I would then argue that it's the mitochondria. - MasterQ, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1That's not very environmentally friendly... we need a greener brain
- TheWindBlows, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1O_O WTF?
- Ramble, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Mammary glands are what make mammalian life possible.
- Ramble, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1Not heard of grammar then?
- facelesscoward, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1Samus = human. JFK.
- jontalisman, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1Cell Health Maintenance sounds like a good name for my HMO startup...
- KaiUno, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1It was a joke, friend.
- leerayIG88, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1indeed samus..indeed
