- FormerBabby, on 10/19/2009, -0/+31Sell it off to private collections.
- outofstep, on 10/19/2009, -0/+26They don't need to throw those away. There are other museums that would love it, and have the resources to take care of it.
- cygnus2112, on 10/19/2009, -2/+23Digitize the photos. Use the surgical mask for wild sex parties. Hippo skull above the fireplace.
Solved! - 4rp4n3t, on 10/19/2009, -0/+20"An archive of NASA photos, a 19th-century surgical mask and a hippo skull: there's no room, so one has to go, but which one?"
The hippo skull. The others are irreplaceable. - AaronCo, on 10/19/2009, -0/+15Is there a big private market for hippo skulls? Is there a lack of hippo skulls in the world that would make that particular one valuable?
- fury420, on 10/19/2009, -0/+8IIRC it was "a" creationism museum, not "The" creationism museum... as in... not the famous one that everyone has heard of & mocked before, but some smaller ***** one.
- inactive, on 10/19/2009, -0/+8Move it to another museum that has the space.
- grexeo, on 10/19/2009, -0/+7Bin the owl?
- indyGuy, on 10/19/2009, -1/+8I didn't hear that - this is the best news i've read all day.
- labantnet, on 10/19/2009, -0/+7Agreed. there didn't seem to be anything special about that one.
- publiclurker, on 10/19/2009, -0/+7Unless you consider intellectual bankruptcy, I'm afraid I can see no evidence that they are out of business.
- Bukowsky, on 10/19/2009, -3/+10they should throw out anything related to Creationism... oh wait, that "museum" already went out of business.
- CZDrNick, on 10/19/2009, -0/+6Yeah, the Owl is useless...
- d3sapar3cid0, on 10/19/2009, -2/+6Little disappointed with the article after "7 PAGES OF IMAGES" turned out to be 6 pages of image, one image per page.
- missjames, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4Private collections could be an option, but then, isn't that defeating the purpose of saving it? If a private entity has an artifact, there's no guarantee that it will be free for everyone to access it.
- jcmead, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4The hippo skull, It seems to be the largest bulk item on the list and for the following reasons:
"This is a hippopotamus skull, one of four held by University College London. "
They have three others how many do you need?.
And
"It was previously used for teaching but is now in storage, and deteriorating.
It seems that it is being neglected so would seem that they have given up on it already. - borez, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4That must be one hell of a small museum.
- Brassbud, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4The hippo skull. It's the biggest and it's easy to get a new one down the road.
- serif69, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4I am thoroughly insulted by the headline that suggests the museum should throw out the whole gallery.
- Sraser, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4Obviously the deteriorating hippo skull. If you want another, new one, just wait for a hippo to die at some zoo. Or, for the adventurous, outside.
I mean, really, is it that hard to figure out? - jrm125, on 10/19/2009, -1/+5This make anyone else sad?
- captspaulding, on 10/20/2009, -0/+3I'd like to bid $100 for the hippo skull. It would look great on my kitchen table.
- edwartica, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Myself, I would love to get my hands on those NASA photos. If they can't find any other takers, give them to me!
And ditch the Hippo skull already! - DOCNM, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2Why are people so damn lazy?
FTA: "ll of them could be disposed of, whether by giving them away, selling them or in the last resort by throwing them in the bin." - Jack8274, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2I'm pretty sure the 7 PAGES OF IMAGES was to ***** with us.
- mogebier, on 10/20/2009, -0/+2Just do what every other person does - put the junk in the garage and park in the driveway :)
Or rent an amazingly overpriced little storage room. - aderek, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2Do you have seven booked appointment? Does your therapist have seven pages of note about you? Maybe she has seven university year behind her?
- Jack8274, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Cause ***** with people is fun of course. Didn't you learn?
- DAC1138, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1I'm sure it was too. So why ***** with us when it seems like such a meaningful article from a meaningful source?
- DAC1138, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1It's 7 images!!!! Is bandwidth to tight now we have to limit articles to one image per page?
Also, I need to bitch about something, otherwise I'm not happy. The therapist and I are working on that. - sethc, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1eBay them.. buy it now ftw
- borez, on 10/19/2009, -1/+2Good lord.
There are pages, and there are images, 7 pages of those images... Therefore 7 pages of images.
What's the problem? - mattharvey716, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1^this
- hereticoftruth, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Yeah, someone just wants the "go ahead" on tossing out those worthless tons of ivory in the basement as well.
- Gemfinder, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Hippo skull. The surgical mask would take up virtually no room in storage, the archive can be placed on a disc which again has negligible storage requirements, and there are plenty, plenty, PLENTY of hippos, in the wild and in zoos. Plus the scans of a skull can also be digitized. So ditch the skull.
- ultraseamus, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Nonsense, all information should be burned before handing it over to another public museum. The loss of priceless data is a small price to pay.
To be fair though, the article did say that throwing them away was a last resort, listed after giving them away or selling them. Suppose there is a chance that no other place would even be interested. The Digg article title just condensed that to make it seem like these were all going to be thrown away. - allisonV12, on 10/19/2009, -1/+2Sounds like a scam to start dumping antiquities on the open market,I'm sure California and other broke states would just love to sell some warehoused oddities once its acceptable and the media reporting has moved on to the next Balloon Boy
- Marrach, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Ditch the Skull-- I keep seeing pictures of Live Hippos chasing African Park Rangers so obviously they ain't endangered.
The Surgical Mask is kinda creepy-- and then the Wild Sex Party Suggestion made it even Creepier. Then I started having mental images involving drunken semi-nude Med-Students and that Mask and got creeped out totally. So Yeah-- Keep it. . .under Lock & Key. The damned thing prolly got a Curse on it, too!
The NASA photos-- No brainer. Just Digitize the damned things.
And the Basket? Oh Christ Burn it! Who Cares! - publiclurker, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Oh, you mean this one:
www.dinosauradventureland.com - piieerrrree, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1I'd rather have a few people appreciate something than it being disposed of entirely...
- DAC1138, on 10/19/2009, -7/+27 pages of images? Needs to say "7 images" or "7 pages of image". Images implies a it's plural and there's more than 1 image per page.

What is Digg?
