'Virgins rare, drug use common'

Let say 80% of the population has gotten a speeding ticket and 80% of the population has use weed, but lets also say those two groups overlap 100% (ie, there is no one that has done one without the other). Then by your methodology if you haven't gotten a speeding ticket and you haven't smoked weed your rarity would be 0.2 * 0.2 = 0.04. But in reality it is only 0.2 since the two groups overlap completely.

    It is likely that the 0.04% that are virgins, almost none of them have tried a street drug so your rarity in reality is probably slight less than 0.04%

    I would have guessed much higher, at least 35-40%. If they included weed, I'd put it at 65-70%.

    the only way this shocks me is the numbers seem very low.. maybe i just live in a bad town..

    First off...yes, crack is illegal. It's illegal in damn near every country in the world.
    Secondly, crack is not meth. Crack is made from cocaine.
    Third, it's tobacco and habit.
    Fourth, even if tobacco addiction were harder to kick than meth addiction (I don't know and I'm not interested in looking it up), meth is absolutely terrible for you, much much worse than even cigarretes.
