- TobiasParker, on 07/19/2009, -0/+25Send it there, start the terraforming now.
- copypastry, on 07/19/2009, -0/+18Found in scrapings from Paris Hilton's panties.
- KingGorilla, on 07/19/2009, -0/+12Yeah but once it thrives on Mars and then comes back. We are *****
- TobiasParker, on 07/19/2009, -0/+12***** it, i want to live on mars.
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -0/+11why not? Mars is mostly lifeless. If we can artificially enhance their biosphere with some induced greenhouse effect and give it a real biosphere, that would be a great accomplishment.
- DBLaise, on 07/19/2009, -0/+9Is there a bio-hazard suit strong enough to endure such conditions?
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -1/+9Yes, terraform Mars with the methane spewing bacteria.
- jeremymccurdy, on 07/19/2009, -0/+7I doubt it, pretty sure she causes every condom that's ventured there to dissolve on contact. Many have tried, none have survived.
- SlpingInsomniac, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6You know... the reason it's so cold and the atmosphere is so thin is because the lack of a turning core means the lack of a magnetosphere, causing the lack of protection from solar wind meaning the atmosphere is blowing away.
- TheInformer, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6What about the Prime Directive?
- sulthernao, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4It'll warm the place up nicely...greenhouse gas, you know?
- WatIsNotTaknYet, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4Makes you wonder if that`s how Earth used to be. Just some lone, desolate planet....until some dying, space faring race decided to preserve their planet`s life by inseminating some tough archaebacteria of their own onto our ecosystem and jump starting life on this planet. Hoping that some eons later, their great race might live again....
Ooops looks like I need another bong hit. - lorem1000, on 07/19/2009, -1/+4If tax revenues end up funding the application of this research, this sort of program would need mass public interest, in other words, an increased level of marketable excitement. I say we start by sending bears, see how they do, then work our way down until something thrives.
- Scaryclouds, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3"Mostly" lifeless? I am unaware that life has been found.
As for creating a "real" bioshpere, under much better conditions, it took life 3.2 billion years to create a biosphere on Earth "strong" enough to support multicellular life.
I am all for colonizing/terraforming Mars. But for human time scales it's going to take much more than simple bacteria to do the job. - hoodedrobin, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3I want to send a water bear.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tardigrade - superherofive, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Microbe. He's the best.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Tell them yes. We accept our charge of spreading life throughout the universe.
- DivineMonkey, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Should we also send a magnetic field?
- jlian, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2If we actually send these things to Mars and they survive, maybe some sort of intelligent creatures could appear after billions of years ?
- Gareth321, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2That's cool, we'll just send methane-absorbing bacteria there next...
- noahtron, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2now now, we don't want it to be too earthlike before we even get there...
- getoffmybridge, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Start the reactor
- Iwantawii, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1\\//_
- wipis, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1God speed little dude!
- Billions, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Well, send it up there, and see what sticks... But don't blame me when it evolves and launches an attack on Earth in 3 million years.
- jeremymccurdy, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Haha, wow. Random SA forum meme reference. Good job!
- TheInformer, on 07/19/2009, -1/+2Once you have your SPF 3000 suntan lotion, you're set.
- hoogie, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1*cough cough*
Kurt would be proud of the little guy. - masterstghm, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Send it away!
- JQP123, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1"i want to live on mars."
Try living in Antarctica first. The conditions are similar and it won't cost quite so much to go get your dumb ass when you decide you don't really want to live there anymore. - JQP123, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1I don't think you'll have anything to worry about there. Any planet that lacks a magnetosphere or sufficient gravity to hold a moderately dense atmosphere is unlikely to ever be "earthlike".
- TheGuruStud, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1So, we can have a movie: The Core 2.
- JustJoe4Life, on 07/19/2009, -1/+1I, for one, welcome our new microbian overlords.
- TheInformer, on 07/19/2009, -1/+1The Martians are currently wondering the same thing.
- protodon, on 07/19/2009, -4/+3Cue the "We can, but should we?" ethical wet blankets.
- madla69, on 07/19/2009, -2/+1this may have actually come from mars hehehehehe
