- alphgeek, on 05/05/2008, -124/+392I have a radical new arrpoach to help fat people lose weight. It's really simple. Scientists might be interested.
1/ Eat less ***** food, lardarse.
2/ Get up off your fat ***** arse and do some exercise.
Just post me my Nobel prize thx. - zenithmbr, on 05/05/2008, -27/+185SPOILER ALERT:
Doughnuts - jbcsee, on 05/05/2008, -25/+171I'm so glad you came up with that idea, I've been doing this wrong my whole life.
As someone who has been overweight his whole life I want to respond with a big ***** you. Just to put this in perspective, I eat 1600 calories a day, the minimum my doctor will allow me to eat. Less then that is un-healthy and will lead to medical conditions that are worse then me being fat. I bicycle at least one hour a day, at about 200 watts of output. I run another 25-30 miles a week. I go to the gym three days a week.
Eat less, check.
Exercise, check.
Still fat, check.
Now what you have to realize is some people are genetically disposed to be fat no matter what they do. I'm fairly certain I eat better and exercise more then most of the ass-hats digging you up. But I'm a fat lazy slob to all of you.
Maybe when they start giving out Nobel Prizes for stupidity you'll finally get yours in the post. In the mean time go ***** yourself. - abstractia, on 05/05/2008, -29/+157The reason fat people find it hard to lose weight is becausOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM
- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -31/+123***** doesn't have that many calories
- commenter01, on 05/05/2008, -4/+95that is the voice of experience.
- killbert24, on 05/05/2008, -18/+107I got fat when I was around 9-12 years old. Since then I've tried being thin but no matter what I notice I still have flab (fat cells) that will never go away. I also have an appetite that is hard to ignore and I gain weight much easier than other people who have never been fat.
So I'm maintaining a happy medium right now and have acknowledged that my fat cells are here with me for life. :-) - JEAH, on 05/05/2008, -20/+101I love to eat but I'm not fat... so what gives? Maybe next time you should RTFA
- Litespeed, on 05/05/2008, -8/+84I came in here for the bigoted anti-fat campaigners and I wasn't disappointed.
- Tenlow, on 05/05/2008, -3/+78Well I'm fat and I know it's because I eat ***** food and sit on my ass all day.
- SantaClauz, on 05/05/2008, -7/+78All jokes aside, I really hope this is a major breakthrough because our world is starting to get shockingly obese.
- threemagic, on 05/05/2008, -8/+75a common sense approach.. I find your theory interesting and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
- Armagetto, on 05/05/2008, -3/+65I recently lost over 60lbs and went from size 42 waist to a 34. Exercise was a huge factor, but I would have to say what we eat and when is a more crucial factor. I try to eat 5-6 smaller protein-rich meals with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Also, I eat my biggest meal of the day in the morning and taper off with subsequent ones throughout the day. This helps get the metabolism going and keeps the appetite under control. Obese people often eat less than I do, except they skip breakfast, chug sugary sodas all day, snack on greasy carb-laden junk food and then gorge before dinner and up until bedtime. By doing that, you are essentially telling your body to store fats and metabolize foods at a slower rate.
- spasticjedi, on 05/05/2008, -8/+62I had a hard time losing weight. No matter how much I exercised and how little I ate, I would just gain weight.
Turns out...it really was glandular.
Hypothyroidism ftw. - Risingashes, on 05/05/2008, -3/+49Eating 1 meal a day will cause you to retain weight.
It's not about eating less it's about eating a small ammount at regular periods, so that your body learns that it doesn't need to maintain the fat levels.
I'd talk to your friend asap and tell her that she is doing it all wrong. - inactive, on 05/05/2008, -85/+131Simple ...because they love to eat !
- Divals, on 05/05/2008, -24/+69Oh goody. Just what digg needs, more anti-fat bigots. I wish more people would listen to the old 'if you can't say anything nice...'
- lharrod, on 05/05/2008, -1/+42The 'just' response is a shortcut to thinking... Fat people just need to exercise. Dumb people just need to study. Shy people just need to socialize. Depressed people just need to cheer up. Alcoholics just need to stop drinking. Smokers just need to stop smoking. Poor people just need to make more money. Lonely people just need to find someone. Suicidal people just need to love life.
- UMDWei, on 05/05/2008, -1/+40By our world you mean the mid-western states right? Because the rest of Earth is having a pretty hard time finding food right now.
- bacon_skoda, on 05/05/2008, -6/+43I never understood why people on digg comment on articles they don't read.
- Lixie, on 05/05/2008, -5/+42The skinniest people I know eat constantly. The one obese girl I know eats only one meal a day, it's not even a large meal. If there's ever a famine you don't have to worry about the fat people eating all of the food. You have to worry about the lean people who run 5 miles a day.
- sjaxso, on 05/05/2008, -1/+37The thing people tend to miss here is that people are different sizes. I'm really skinny, would love to put on weight and just can't. Some are tall, some are short, some are skinny, some are fat. Of course, some just shove as many cakes and burgers in their mouths as they can... but that's something else I guess.
- killbert24, on 05/05/2008, -4/+38No, you are stupid if you think that every 9 or 12 year old is supposed to be fat. Childhood obesity: look it up.
- alphgeek, on 05/05/2008, -7/+40Your mom is my girlfriend champ and yeah, she's fatter than a Sherman tank.
- insllvn, on 05/05/2008, -0/+33My ass begs to differ.
- Jerim, on 05/05/2008, -0/+31I am in the same boat. Down to eating a piece of fruit for lunch and baked chicken for dinner. I allow myself the occassional candy bar. I bike 10 miles a day. I am not obese, but heavy. I have lost some weight, but it is very slow and if I skip the exercise one week I gain a couple of pounds. Meanwhile, I know several people who scarf down cheeseburgers a few times a day and never leave their couch. Not an ounce of fat on them. They are the ones who would immediately blame me for lack of diet and exercise. We should never make excuses, but we must accept that losing weight is not an even playing field.
- defectDS, on 05/05/2008, -5/+36I can't stop eating! I eat because I'm unhappy, and I'm unhappy because I eat. It's a vicious cycle. Now if you'll excuse me, there's someone I need to get in touch with and forgive: myself...
*toot*
Sorry, I farted. - pyrotix, on 05/05/2008, -1/+30Hasn't anybody heard of the cocaine diet? It's a lot easier than what you are proposing, sir!
- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -1/+27You've been blessed with genes that would be great if you had to worry about surviving a famine.
- rAid135, on 05/05/2008, -4/+29Wait, this is new? I was readying my psychology book which is over 10 years old and the fact that the number of fat cells in your body stays constant makes weight loss difficult was cited as a obstacle for losing weight...
- Treshnell, on 05/05/2008, -1/+25You rack disciprine!
- alanthing, on 05/05/2008, -0/+23I dugg you up as a congratulations on your weight loss. I, too, recently went from a 42 to a 34 (bought my first 34s today!) and lost over 45 pounds since December. It doesn't take much- just make better food decisions, eat less, and exercise. "The key" is different for everyone, but like yourself, I made breakfast a priority after years of skipping it, and I ate small 100-calorie snacks in between meals. I started doing cardio and weight-lifting three times a week and stopped eating Taco Bell and it's really no surprise.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+23Maybe he'll become a super-villain and bring famine upon us.
- killbert24, on 05/05/2008, -2/+25They shrivel up and become dormant but never go away. RTFA and learn some physiology.
- joemofo214, on 05/05/2008, -1/+23yes, calling someone fatty and grabbing their rolls will motivate them to loose more weight, instead of eating more!
fat people eat because they are insecure, and seek comfort they find in food. making fun of fat people is just like giving a suicidal person a gun.
and i know what im talking about, years of fat jokes from my father did not help me any - Elranzer, on 05/05/2008, -6/+27Ah... another Digg article about weight loss. These kinds of articles show how pretty much every Digger is an amateur nutritionist.
Example Diagnosis: "They eat too much. Put down the fork, fatty!" (+200 diggs)
Scientist: "There's genetics and other factors" (-100 diggs)
Average Digger: 12 years old (a.k.a. not very wise) - Farik, on 05/05/2008, -0/+21Amen brother!
- pseudononymist, on 05/05/2008, -7/+28Average in the US = fat.
- noahhoward, on 05/05/2008, -1/+21Because they were 1000 pounds to start with. Those 100 pounds were the easy ones, it's those of use that only need to lose 50 or so that have issues.
- kb9vgr, on 05/05/2008, -3/+23the cake is a lie
- gudnbluts, on 05/05/2008, -6/+25"read the post before you reply like a mentally challenged monkey"
The article doesn't deny what he said at all. If you're genetically predispositioned to be fat, then you can still change it. It'll be harder for you than for people who are genetically skinny, and you may well not end up looking like Naomi Cambell, but you can. My whole family is fat, and I was 'til my late 20s. I made the decision to change it. It takes a lot of work, but for me it's worth it. - worldchanger, on 05/05/2008, -0/+19I'm not sure who should be more ashamed...
- Ryan2845, on 05/05/2008, -24/+42So...you're fat huh?
- OpaqueMurdock, on 05/05/2008, -2/+20Sooooo, you didn't read the story and discover that real science is further establishing differencees in people who tend to be heavy and people that tend to be thin and then you spew some "your weak!" diatribe? If you did read it, I can only guess that you were born with the correct genetic make up and that you must feel a little threatened that your world view may have to change in the future. Better get your diggs in while you can and make people think this is all bunk now huh?
Nice.
Thats like driving a nice car that your parents paid for past some poor kids and making fun of them for the fact that they have to work for their beat up old Honda. Well done. : )
You are right in the fact that hard work and healthy living are always a good start... but if it is a foot race.. not everyone has the same running shoes or is given the same surface to run on. Thats just common sense. Implying that eveyone has the exact same chance to be thin is so oviously incorrect for anyone paying attention, In my mind it just makes you look foolish.
A bit of empathy now might serve you well for the time when your metabolism starts to change, (and it will, it does for most everyone) and you are the one suddenly struggling to keep off the pounds. - noahhoward, on 05/05/2008, -3/+21Interesting, insightful article, too bad it's going to be wasted on 90% of the people here.
My problem is making time to exercise again. - noahhoward, on 05/05/2008, -3/+21Hrmm.. I eat very little yet I'm still overweight... where did you say you got your degree from?
- noahhoward, on 05/05/2008, -5/+22You misunderstand he was trying to get you to shut the ***** up. You didn't let him finish.
- lharrod, on 05/05/2008, -1/+18According to the quick and easy logic in these comments, the reason you're so skinny and can't put on weight is because you're not trying hard enough. You're a slacker. It has nothing to do with your genes or bloodline. You're just don't have the willpower to gain weight, just like fat people don't have the willpower to lose weight.
- killbert24, on 05/05/2008, -0/+15It could also be in a Psychology book if the chapter was about depression or lifestyle changes regarding food and obesity.
- noahhoward, on 05/05/2008, -6/+21I know right, stupid geneticists, think they know stuff about genes.
