- BESTenemy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3 Don't call it Creationalism! It's Intelligent Design Theory now! Despite their own claims religious folks keep evolving to counter the scientific development. Allow them to go for another decade and they'll be pushing subjects in schools such as "Jeusics", "Christiamistry" and "Godemathics". Try battling them then!
- TerranQ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How is it that all these creationists read a site dedicated to tech news, ie: applied science, and calmly and cooly assert that the most well documented and well supported scientific theory to date is false? You do realize that evolutionary concepts are used to design the processor in the computer you use to view this site, right?
My favorite though is the idea that anyone who believes in evolution does so only because they're "denying god". Which god was that again? Odin? Ahura Mazda? Quetzalcoatl? The reason I, and every other sane person "believes" in evolution is because it's an observable fact. The Theory of Evolution is the umbrella group that puts all these observable, testable facts into a coherent explanation for what we observe (ie-reality). In other words, if you think evolution doesn't occur, and that the Theory of Evolution is not the best explanation for diversity we have, you don't believe in reality (which, by definition, means you're insane. Look it up if you don't believe me)
Oh, and dankant, what does the fact that Marx was a Jew (or a communist, for that matter) have to do with his opinions? Way to show your true colours buddy. I can always trust a creationist to come off looking like a bigot eventually. - airship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I, for one, welcome our new zombie-creating wasp overlords.
Oh, wait, I'm sorry. I thought I was on Slashdot there for a minute... - TerranQ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1jav1231: "Uh-huh. And just how many species leaps have you observed?"
me personally, none. But I've never seen an atom either. Have you? Guess atomic theory is out the door as well.
As for speciation events, here you go:

"...to try to feign this intellectual superiority only to use such terms as "insane" simply makes you look like an idiot."
And what would you call someone who rejects reality in favour of tales from a 2000 year old book written by nomadic bronze age sheepherders? Me, I gotta go with insane. But that's just me. And I wasn't attempting to feign anything to try and score a zinger. Can I help if guys like dankant just prove me right?
Rice: thanks ;)
dankant: wow...
directedition: couldn't agree more. I just get really tired on creationists coming on here spouting their anti-science nonsense (on a tech oriented web site no less. You can almost taste the irony...) - noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, i'm a jew, and every month I get a letter saying "מזל טוב! אנחנו עדיין שולטים בעולם!", which means "Congratulations! We still control the world!" in hebrew.
Or not. - Ratteler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think if we're going the route of accepting that a higher power created the universe, we are also obliged to point out the nature of that creator.
So I'm putting forth my own term that I insist be taught in science classes.
SADISTIC DESIGN
Let's face it, if an intelligence designed the way the things worked it MUST be the cruelest thing in existence. It allows dramatic unbalances of power and seem to force a life or death struggle in everything it does. If there is a hand of "God" at work, that "God" is the single most evil thing that has ever existed.
To those who argue that we don't understand "it's" plan, I would suggest that since it "intelligently designed" our perceptions, it must WANT us to see it in it's cruel overlord capacity.
Why would you "design" something to suffer needlessly unless you were pure ***** evil on an unimaginable scale?
GOD = EVIL!
Instead of trying to appease the whims of this torturer we should be trying to ban all prayer and faith to starve the bastard in some kind of compromise... or at least to end the suffering of our children once and for all. - noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dankant:
1. Jews dominating Dark Ages Europe? You're joking, right? The church was the one to dominate Europe during the Dark Ages (Also known as the Middle Ages). Christians were persecuted by the ROMANS in the time of the Roman empire.
2. If God (or shold I spell it god?) is a concept, why must it conflict with reality, and why must atrocities such as murder and oppression be commited in order to preserve its existance?
3. I prefer Zionism to nightmares, thank you very much. True, the first Zionists did in fact believe in Communism (which, contrary to common belief, is not a pholosophy of evil [that's Totalitarianism, which was the actual governing method in the USSR and still is in China.]), and their belief was reflected in the structure of old Kibbutzim. Existensialism and Nihlism, oh the other hand, do not have much to do with Zionism.
4. Why do you believe that the concept of a monotheist God is necessary to make society good when, in fact, all evidence point otherwise? Did the armies of the Middle Ages, going to murder and plunder, not shout that "God wills it"? Did the inquisition not kill and torture, claiming that it is done for the glory of God? Was the genocide in the American Indians not done in the name of God too? - Improfane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow.
goa'uld anyone? - thoreau2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Freaked me the heck out! Wasps are the essence of insect evilness
- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dankant:
Duh, because a guy who thinks the Jews dominated Europe in the middle ages is a great authority in what is true and what is not. - jav1231, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1TerranQ (0): "The reason I, and every other sane person "believes" in evolution is because it's an observable fact"
Uh-huh. And just how many species leaps have you observed? Look at what is observable: species evolve to exploit their surroundings. Take that and "believe" that this could logically explain similarities between species and might account for them. But don't, don't start this self-flaternization by calling people insane when the truth is there are tenets of evolution that simply unobservable. Period. Believe them. Believe them based on your understanding and conclusion of the evidence but to try to feign this intellectual superiority only to use such terms as "insane" simply makes you look like an idiot. - v0id, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow so chestbusters are real...
=shudders= - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Christians have suffered long and hard under Jew domination of Europe in dark ages."
Thats a farce, The Jews never dominated christians during the Middle Ages. I shouldnt even dignify that kind of ignorance with a response. - noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dankant: Your assertion is rediculous, The food chain has changed countless times. It is a little known fact that when a theory or "law" conflicts with reality, the theory ("law") must go.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0or certain species of 'zerg' from starcraft ;)

Zombie cockroaches, that's my kinda issue. - dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 Pretty amazing and very creepy.
- vermin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF, that's crazier then zombie dogs.

- greenlight2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats pretty F-ing amazing. I'd like to see that in person, maybe in a empty Cool Whip container on my computer stand or something...
- grislygus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why yes, I did know that Hitler's father was a jew. I also know that he furthered and perfected the medieval idea that all jews are one single, malicious, power-grubbing entity. An idea which you support so vehemently.
- XMorbius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isn't this one of the looser definitions for zombie? I mean, theres no corpse re-animation here or anything...
Very neat though, don't get me wrong! - Starforge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I read this on Boing Boing yesterday and I'm still... well skeptical, but facinated heh
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it was posted about 17 hours ago on digg before it was posted on boingboing...anyways i think its amazing!

I'm not wasting my time typing out a huge post, I'm not even going to bother suggesting that your wrong about anything, despite blatant factual errors that others have pointed out, so here, is just 1 argument of many - the often quoted Occam's razor:
(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occums_razor )
(Occam's razor In religion)
An example of such an argument would take this form: we have a set of models which does a good job of predicting various aspects of our experience (theories from physics, biology, psychology, etc.). Taken together these constitute a larger model of our overall experience, call it a World model. Elements (sub-models) of this World model which do not contribute to the precision or improve the accuracy of the model should be "cut away" with Occam's Razor. Given this foundation it can be seen that World models including God have an extra element which does not improve accuracy or precision.
A common response is that God can "simplify" the world model, for instance by providing a less complex explanation of the origin of species via creationism (i.e. even though we are adding the God-submodel we are removing a more complicated "evolution" model achieving a simpler theory). However, such arguments do not take into account that the evolution sub-model is necessary for accuracy and precision (for instance the evolution models makes many good predictions about where we will find various kinds of fossils). Since removing the evolution sub-model reduces the accuracy and precision of the World model it must be kept (in some form). If the evolution model is kept then the God sub-model hasn't simplified the World model.
My bottom line:
Evolution is a scientifically TESTABLE thorey, God however, cannot be tested by scientific method, if God is an unknown variable in the universe, then at some point science would have to just give up and say "well, we couldn't find the evidence for why XYZ is happening, therefore god did it"
That is ***Unacceptable*** for science, once the point has been reached were god becomes part of our scientific model of the universe then there is nothing more to be learnt, all chains of thought eventually stop at "god did it", and there can be nothing further to learn. - grislygus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Personally, I believe that God himself planned (at least to some extent) evolution. Which, of course, makes me an indecisive wuss who's going to burn in hell, right? Or purgatory. One or the other.
But I can still understand creationists' point of view.
I can not understand creeps like dankant. Pack up your Hitlerian ***** and spew it out somewhere else, pal. . - Ratteler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was asking God about this the other day, and muttered something about "Stupid hairless monkeys! Give it to the damn bugs this time." then went back to messing with some wasps and roaches.
- Jmog123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoooooooeeee!

- cloudtears, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amazing, but not unique. Various fungii and other parasites modify the behavior of their hosts by manipulating the nervous system.
The scariest thing I've seen along these lines, on a David Attenbourough documentary (which I have no link to and no other info on, except I remember seeing it on TV some years ago), was a species of large spider that raised mice for food. The spiders took care of the mice and harvested them like we do with livestock. I have searched the net for a link to this phenomena and have come up with nada. But I remember seeing it, I was so shocked at the time that it kind of went over my head and I didn't follow up on it. So now all I have is the memory. If it wasn't a spider maybe it was a crab, but I think it was a species of spider. - theCaptain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That wasp is 1337! Digg!
- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The roach isn't really a zombie, unless you count a person with a lobotomy a zombie. Still, very impressive.
- flightgamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just wanted to say that no matter how you believe the wasp can do that, it is still absolutely amazing.
Wow. As a Christian and an engineer (yes they play nicely) I just can't believe that the wasp can do all that. I knew I had a good reason to hate wasps. They're EVIL!!!!!
It is so impressive that I'm waiting for the "story was a hoax" digg. - LukeDaDuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How do people think that this species could have evolved and gained the knowledge to do that? They are crazy!
- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"because they're "denying god". Which god was that again? Odin?....Quetzalcoatl? "
