- suxmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Someone I know won't wear his hearing aid becaue he's embarassed. The sad part is: he talks with a lisp because of his inability to hear himself talk, and that combined with asking people to repeat himself makes people wonder if he is slow in the head. An invisible hearing aid is more than just a convenience: it can actually help people like him be more successful in society.
- SwissCamel, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14I'll stick with my ear trumpet thank you very much.
- Lane, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I cant wait till like 20 years when its developed further so that you can actually get better hearing then human and it costs like 1k.
- digency, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm deaf and I wear hearing aids in both ears, this is similar to a colclear implant if not the same thing.I would only get this if it improved my hearing to 100% normal hearing, otherwise hearing aids are fine for me. I'd rather not cut up my head and put some electronics near my brain (what if it caused tumors or cancer). According to the article its not even as good as regular hearing aids. The only reason this is good is for cosmetic looks. I hated wearing my hearing aids throughout school, but once you become an adult, it doesnt matter anymore. Hearing well matters over cosmetics. (at least for me)
- Dokument, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7They need to make invisible contact lenses
- bradpurchase, on 06/12/2008, -0/+5What isn't?
- MadNuke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I am 16, and I've had in-ear digital hearing aids for several years. They match your skin tone and fit inside your ear, they cost $1,500 each in 2004 for top-of-the-line digital hearing aids. I'm sure anyone could get tested, and purchase quality in-ear hearing aids for far less time, energy, money, and risk than this stupid surgery.

- requinox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I wasn't expecting such a big looking device.
- zetec, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3WHAT?
- Louisd11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Something tells me this may turn out to be cancerous in the future.
- esotericguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i hope for the sake of your soul that that was sarcasm
- DCGaymer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think I'll stick with the stigma.
- esotericguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*edit*
WTF?!? STUPID COMMENT SYSTEM!!! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2hearing aids are probably the greatest rip-off in all of electronics.they charge so much because they can.
- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He said: "I'LL STICK WITH M-" aww nevermind....
- skinrock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have personally been waiting for this for a long time. I used to wear the "behind the ear" model, those big ones. I switched to the lower profile ones that sit completely in your ear, about 8 years ago. But nothing is more frustrating than needing to take them out when I go to bed or out on my seadoo, I always wondered what kind of progress was being made.
- skinrock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You can get a pretty good pair for under 2 grand, closer to 1200-1600. Add up all 3 current generation game consoles and a few games, and one has to ask, which is a rip-off?

- Louisd11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Im 85% deaf in my right ear. People are always telling me to put on hearing aid, but I dun like em and they are uncomfortable after a while. SO when I went to middle school I stopped wearing it. But, if there invisible count me in!
- cpjax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i paid $3000 apiece for mine and they are essential to me i had an old pair and the differance is night and day i hear all the little details i enjoy music more and if the improve it a little more maybe lower the cost i will GET this surgery
- cfuse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My father has industrial deafness and he actually makes less sense to talk to when he used a hearing aid - go figure.
- sodade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I would buy something like this just so I don't have to deal with ***** headphone wires.
- CreateSomeNoise, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Excuse me, but, the entire world is wearing those STUPID LOOKING BLUE TOOTH things, whats wrong with a hearing aid?????? What, are people on drugs or something? Geez.
- Leopards, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1In a day and age when too many people walk around all day in public with a Blue-tooth headset stuck in their ear, all you need is a really large, brightly colored, hearing aid and no one will think you are hard of hearing, just that you are a jerk!!
- wassim2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My cousin doesn't wear his because of the excessive wax buildup that they create. He has to clean his ears out very often to keep it comfortable.
- net87, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I wear hearing aids all of my life since i was 3 years old. My batteries last 2 or 3 weeks. I'm not ashamed,
- batshitcrazy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1WHAT?
- ale8oneboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'm 25 and have worn hearing aids since I was three or so. I agree with the previous posts. Sure, I was bothered with the social stigma through grade, middle, and high school. But it all went away in college and adult life. Hearing well is going to make you more attractive in the long run. Glad to see some other deaf and hard of hearing folks post on this subject.
- carb0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'll stick with my free cochlear implant, thank you.
- Bitgod, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2The sad thing is, I was looking for a lolcat picture.
- inv1ctus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0huh?
- untitled10101, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0what if the battery explodes like all other defective batteries?
- Diggnationfan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0That's freaking nuts dude.
- jwl23, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Yeah so when is the socialist health care paradise in Cuba going to invent something like this?
- aragolas, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1I'm digging this not only for the great article, but for the stoner picture of Kevin at the top of the page for his symposium at the MIT Emerging Tech Conference.....nice
- juvefury, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0That would be an amazing invention, but would it be dangerous to implant?
