And if your bible said 2+2 = 5, you religious nuts would call mathmatics "stupid bullcrap" too. "God" gave you brain cells, I presume, try using them occasionally, insteadly of blindly following a 2000 year old book, and whatever your preacher tells you on Sunday morning. - zeebo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20The bible may not say that 2 2=5, however it does say that pi=3. There actually are religious nuts who from time to time try to assert this, along with the flat earth, and lots of other silly things.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Maybe evolution isn't the answer but it's got a hell of a lot more evidence going for it than an ancient book of bedtime fairy tales.
- Mental64, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Nothing earth shattering here, many fish can do that.
- Mental64, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I did slacker. Several fish can catch terrestial prey, including, but not limited to birds, insects, etc..
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Ok first of all the person mentioned evolution in a passing remark not a real statment there. And other than that passing remark no one in the article really talked about evolution. so chill out
Also if everything was just put here then life didnt start in water, it started everywhere. so why the hell are we franticly looking for liquid water anywhere but earth? for the hell of it? i dont think so.
So how do bactiera become drug resistant?
where did dogs come from? they werent around at first it was wolfs... how did purse dogs survive in the wild before man started carrying them around. How do scientis get new species from selective breeding? How are there so many breeds of dog? where they around seince the earth was created? (i think accouding to people who study the bible 6000 years ago) Why does the bible say that a greater and lesser light was created and o yea stars when the greater light is the same a stars and the lesser light isnt a light. What will happen when almost all the species are extinct, what will take their now empty place in the ecosystem? Why arent we at the center of the universe, because we are to special to evolved from something why werent we placed exactly in the center to show our dominance. - geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13^ Creationist teachings are NOT science and don't belong in a science class. If you want to learn about creationism then go to a religious school or do the research on your own time, not in a publicly funded school.
And who said evolution is being "sensored (sic)"? It's being ATTACKED by some Christian wackos who think evolution is some sort of an anti-religious atheist movement with an agenda to wipe out religion. Puhhhh-leeeease.
And you want hypocrisy? I've seen people like berean stand by scientific claims that prove parts of Mormonism to be false, but when the same science goes against his own personal beliefs he's quick to blindly reject the science. - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10(Science is not equal to Evolution) Evolution is a theory based on scientific evidence.
True, it is possible to challenge evolution without attacking all of science, so let me further state that we don't need to challenge evolution every chance we get either. I too know Christian scientists - one of my good friends has a masters in molecular microbiology. I just wish Christians in general did a better job as a whole of choosing our battles. - warnipples, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12ya that's the grossest thing Ive ever seen.
that's proof of evolution right there, no one would ever "intelligently" design that *****. - Wardvark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Didn't that thing break the gate to Moria?
- jfmgraphics, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"that's proof of evolution right there, no one would ever "intelligently" design that *****."
That was pretty funny... - nerdherder, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14I thought it was actually going to leave the water...
- Justice101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Anyone else hear about the bear that kept ringing this families doorbell and they kept answering it to only see there was a vicous man eating bear. It was on the news awhile ago they fell for it so many times it was funny. L.O.L.
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I'm sure if it had more room and the food was farther away, it would come fully out.

its actually a species of catfish. - TopherT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Well you're the only one.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11o KAY we CAN use caps TO. say things like MOST scientiests say that EVOLUTION IS REAL and It barly mentioned evolution
- zeebo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Do you have a link for the bear? That sounds like an awesome story.
- jaypee68, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7There's the snakehead fish that can travel over land to other bodies of water and will eat small animals including small pets in the process.
- MephistoX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Now that's a trouser snake :-D
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Religion is a border we'll have to cross if we ever want to truly advance ourselves as a society. We have to stop living in the past and embrace the future without religion.
- nerdherder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wasn't there a problem in China a while back with a fish that could move from one pond to another by traveling on land?
Or was it just a chinese fish? I can't remember. - zeebo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Religious people need to remember that if they really (and I mean REALLY) believe in god, there is no scientific discovery that could challenge that. It might be able to challenge and disprove individual teachings, or bits of dogma, indeed Paul tells us (in the bible no less) to ignore a lot of that stuff anyway. Religion is impossible to kill and is easy to start. One group of people can create a religion in less than a generation. While all the efforts of the most repressive countries in the world couldn't kill it with three generations.
However, while science can never destroy religion, religion can completely snuff out science, and can do so quickly. While it may take a single person, or group of people a mere decade or two to establish a religion, it has taken us hundreds of years and thousands upon thousands of people thinking about and studying the world to get where we are now from the end of the last major era of religious oppression of science. The only reason we're as far as we are, is that much of the knowledge of antiquity survived being burned as heretical during the dark ages in the middle east. Much as the west today, now preserves the ideas which would be enough to get you killed on the streets in Tehran. - thomashallock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Damn, Africa's got some cool critters. I'd like to see this guy vs the mouse eating centipede :)
- kiddanger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4its a catfish, i heard about it this morning on kcrw. pretty sweet.
- zeebo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@brokencrystal
Evolution is divided into the fact that animals change over time and are related to eachother across the lines of species, the mechanisms that have been observed by which these changes appear to happen, and the theory which explains how the mechanism appears to work. If you have a hypothesis that you can come up with which explains the observed facts just as well and that can be falsified, lets hear it.
The real morons are the ones who look at stories written down long before we knew anything about fossils or DNA, and think "This is a better source of information about god than examinations of the universe that I believe he created." - pyromithrandir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well, I expected it to jump into the back of someone's neck, but I guess I've been watching too much Stargate. It looked like a Goa'uld to me.
- hayseed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4hmm "snaffle"; good scrabble word

- Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Congratulations, on using 'evolution' in your description, you will make Berean very snarky.
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"breeding isn't evolution"
Cross-breeding doesn't explain how wolves became dogs. Cross one wolf with another wolf and you get a wolf. If you selectively breed the wolves over long periods of time to become more docile by only allowing the more docile animals to reproduce, that's evolution.
How does breeding explain drug-resistant bacteria and viruses?
How does breeding explain the adaptation of species in closed ecosystems over short periods of time?
It doesn't. It can't. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6The only reason I read the comments that were left is because I knew people would turn this into an evolution thing. I believe in God, and I don't think that means I have to be against evolution. I know God created everything in 7 days, but the bible also says that to God "a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day". I think that basically means that human perception of time and God's perception of time are different, so you probably should not take the 7 day thing completely literally. With that in mind, maybe the way that god created humans was by dropping some bacteria in a pond and creating certain laws that govern evolution to make that bacteria "evolve".
But then again maybe not.
The point is the bible doesn't really say either way if you actually read it for yourself. Science can't prove evolution either. I think people just like to talk. - GuineaPig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Catfish walking on land...
http://encarta.msn.com/media_461549651_761558227_-1_1/Catfish_Walking_on_Land.html - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Why do we have to turn everything into a science vs. the Bible debate? This Christian can't help but wonder why we even bother with them at all. Every Bible scholar I know interprets the creation account metaphorically, myself included. We do not have some kind of mission from God to oppose science at every turn.
- kurtu5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Pureeviljester yes the bible does say something about math.
II Chronicles 4:2
“Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.”
So pi=3. the bible is never wrong. Right? This is a real basic fundamental mathematical relationship. If the bible got this testable relationship wrong, then what about the untestable relationships? Is it right because we can't test them?
/IMHO you worship a collection of articles written by biased human beings. - nerdherder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That might be the one that I am thinking of.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ Pureeviljester
Evolution wasnt "designed" and its clearly not "intellegent" so yall Creationists may have that on it but what you dont have on it is logic. Evolution is based on that face that the offspring of most things are sligly diffrent than the parents, so when these children become parents the children would be almost exactly like the second generation, but if one child has the ability to mate millions of times then most of the next generation would be more like him, correct? see no one "made" evolution, apprently unlike the earth.
but Pureeviljester one of your comments is fairly intleget saying the bible doesnt say anything bad about science so you should use science to attack the bible which is fair in a perfect world, but MANY religous people attack science because science doesnt aggree with what they want to belive.
example here:
shindigg111 "I have to say this... Its great that a fish can come out of the water and hunt its prey. God has designed each animal differently and the credit should definitely go to God.
Evolution is a bunch of bullcrap that losers believe." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6i thought it was going to be a fish with fins, not some eel. they should of had a bigger container so that the eel could of have fully left the water...
- kurtu5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I digg because its a Carlin joke; "Everything God made has DIED!"
- Shopko, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Often times people who knock evolution have no idea what the science behind evolution actually says. I have debated many people over the years, and only a small percentage actually have anything close to a clue. Darwin was no dummy.
Likewise, many people who knock the Bible have absolutely no clue what it says. All they do is listen to their equally ignorant friends about what it says, which helps them maintain a closed mind.
Science and religion can coexist. Learn evolution, learn the scientific method, learn about the world around you. Take advantage of your mind and try to expand it! Likewise, learn as much wisdom from the Bible as you can. All the mathematical knowledge in the world is useless when trying to survive through life's sometimes difficult situations. All of the theological knowledge in the world is useless when trying to solve for Eigenvalues in Linear Algebra. Each has its place, and an educated person understands when to apply the appropriate principles.
Remember, the uneducated tend to hold more extreme beliefs because of their closed-mindedness. I am a Christian not because I was taught to be or raised to be; rather, I was an atheist through most of my college years. No, I am a Christian because I spent much time looking into each faith I could find, and Christianity offered the spritual peace I was seeking.
Love God. Love one-another. Enjoy your time on this Earth, and don't get stuck in petty squabbles. Your time here is much shorter than you might think (I am getting old :)), so spend your time wisely.
Just my $0.02. :-) - kurtu5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We dont turn these things into science -vs- religion debates. The religious turn this into science -vs- religion debates.
- zeebo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Pureeviljester
So the bible is speaking metaphorically when it talks about the earth resting on pillars, and people climbing mountains to see the whole of the earth? - shortcircuit13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Last time I checked, your water moccasin didn't have gills.
That'd kinda not be a reptile.
Check the Discovery Channel (or with your 3rd-grade cience teacher) before soft-pedaling an article. - dickyducky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fish?? is it a fish? or some kind of worm or snail??
- craigm01, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Look someone saw the dirty "E" word and came to enlighten us with there religion.... Even though that was NOT what the story was about.
- angulion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Is it just me or does it seem that more and more religious wackos have started to come out of the woodwork lately?
- joxrox22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where can I buy one of those to add to my fish tank?
- M2Ys4U, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually new genetic information CAN be added as a mutation, just as easilly as it can be removed, as mutations are, generally, random but only persist through servival of the ifttest
