  • upnortherik, on 07/01/2009, -0/+2Basically: lots and lots of snow and ice at elevation is melted very quickly. The liquid water mixes with pyroclastic material (ash, boulders, etc) then seeks lower elevation. They're really one of the most destructive forces on Earth.
