- jarmanishere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1future generations will be richer, safer, and cleaner. read State of Fear by Michael Crichton.
- malkdome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the information is interesting, but the research assumes that we continue with current technology. from 1905 to 1999 was a period of rapid technology change, and most likely we will advance enough to reduce the warming from man made sources. but one thing i wonder is what the global temperature was up to the last ice age, and even if man made increases in global temperature was non-existent what would the temperature max be...
- savmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Michael Crichton, who pens science fiction stories, that are based on factual evidence.
- dentz1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And because Michael Crichton pens a bit of science fiction I am suppose to disregard virtually the entire scientific community whose research, peer reviewed, substantiates the BBC’s article?
- macman81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0linuxbox: you're not gonna be the last person living on this planet. There are future generations to consider. That's why I care anyhow.
- sandymac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Over time change is inevitable, the question should be how much change is acceptable. My problem with most environmentalist who panic over climate, extinction, etc. is the only acceptable amount of change for them is zero.
- linuxbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why should I care? I will be dead and this doesn't affect me one bit. Anyways after this so called "global warming" the poles will shift and a there will be an ice age.
- PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is this the same Michael Crichton that wrote Jurassic Park? There's a surprising lack of artificial dinosaurs roaming the earth in my neck of the woods...
- Jesse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Michael Crichton, who pens science fiction stories, uses some aspects of science to excite the fiction elements of his STORIES.
Scientists, who deal with disseminating fact from fiction, uses raw data to conclude (at least a great many of them) that:
1) The Earth is getting warmer, and
2) It is getting warmer because of manmade pollutants
Or you can go on and get your "facts" from popular fiction writer, whatever makes you more comfortable (what with your head buried in the sand). - Etunus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Global warming is due to all you @#$#@$#@ overclockers. Why can't you settle for 3.6Ghz like the rest of the world???!
- zdlatham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hummm I wonder how many cars it took to warm us out of the ice age?
- pixelbend, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Show us some links to the "raw data" that you are quoting. That was the point of Crichton's book. Most of us believe in global warming because we are told it is happening by other people that have been told it is happening.
I'm not saying that global warming is a farce, but before you start telling others of this global disaster, maybe you should educate yourself a little. - dentz1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are you really being serious? Landslides and earthquakes? Come on….
- captainnico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey Norm! If you were a hotdog, would you eat yourself?
- dentz1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why should we waste our time posting links (you have access to Google)….. you believe what you want to believe. The vast majority of the world’s scientists (say population in industrialize countries) would say the hypothesis that human activity is influencing weather patterns is valid. Only researchers employed by the petrochemical industry and people that work for the Bush administration refute it. How many years did it take to convince people the world wasn’t flat?
- a_greer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If we are so powerfull that we can destroy the earth, why the hell cant we stop landslides, earthquakes, tsunomies, huricains, tornaos, lightniong, hail, flooding and so on. Also we went from the stone age to the ice age because of global cooling, we came out of the ice age because of global warming, and we did all this before the internal combustion engine.
