Good luck pal - ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"You could damage your brain permanently by not getting enough sleep"
or he could just ... you know ... fall asleep. - rcube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hey Exvitel, can I give you my WoW account and password? ... make good use of all those hours and level up my character.
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm sure that there were extenuating circumstances with that guy - like, say, a totally abnormal condition that allows someone to go 247 days without sleep - certainly imaginable. Anyway, trying to beat any kind of "-deprivation" record is usually a bad idea.
- packynix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i think he meant 247 hours, almost 11 days
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Good luck not dying.
- Exvitel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'll make it
- D4RKfantasy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Im pretty sure that if he wants to stay awake THAT long, chances are, he's probably already lacking in the whole "brain and intelligence" dept.
- stylerm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I slpet for 20 hours once
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2nethack.
start > run > "cmd" or "command" > "telnet nethack.alt.org"
enjoy. - nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There's a man that has a condition that doesn't let him sleep. I think he's been awake for over 3 years now. He says he never gets tired.
- Bucky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So when he stops posting to the blog, does that mean that he finally fell asleep?
- JackHallows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can't you die after like 2 weeks? 39 hours isn't that bad... that's like a normal thing for people on summer vacation...
- student69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FTA: "This is not an attempt to break any records, I don't think I'll even get close to 11 days, but we'll see how far I can get!"
- beelz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1only 225 more hours to go....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Gardner_%28sleep_deprived%29 - rcube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well it doesn't have to be WoW. Just get a good RPG (PC or console) and lots of free time like you have, and you can stay up for days.
- Bucky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did you mean this story?
http://digg.com/science/Man_in_Vietnam_hasn%E2%80%99t_slept_in_33_years._2 - t0dd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*****, its 132am.. F that im going to sleep - work at 7!
- fyrehart, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2your neuro professor was lying. 11 days is the record.
also, in the blog it clearly states
"This is not an attempt to break any records, I don't think I'll even get close to 11 days, but we'll see how far I can get!" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've gone way over 39 hours ..that's practically less than 2 days..the longest I went was something like 84 hours -thats almost 4 days. And I was doing it because I had a whole bunch of deadlines I had to meet. The biggest boost to energy during this period, besides the adrenaline, is some sort of high caffeine beverage - the milk in coffee will actually work to slow you down, cola or just eating an apple helps.
- LowGan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what about the guy in like Peru who hasn't slept in like 6 years..that was on the front page a while ago
- xst4t1kx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, yeah. 39 hours is nothing, that aside this is a stupid thing to do.
- rcube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got curious after JackHallows' comment....
From a reliable online medical site....sleep deprivation can lead to:
1. Difficulty with short term memory, impaired attention, depression or anxiety, irritability, low energy, decreased libido (often disappear suddenly when normal sleep is restored).
2. Excessive sleepiness is the second leading cause of car accidents (also seems to have contributed to many major catastrophes like Three Mile Island and Chernobyl nuclear power plant accidents, the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster)
3. Decreased respiratory drive as well as decreased respiratory muscle endurance.
4. In animal models, it's been shown to depress the immune system, leading to severe infections and sepsis .... AND death.
5. Could result in excessive eating and obesity. - burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Can't you die after like 2 weeks? "
Well, Exvitel won't. Since he doesn't have any odd medical or psychological condition, one of two things will happen: 1) He'll pass out; or 2) He'll realize what an idiot he's being and just go to bed (no offense, Exvitel; I'm just guessing you'll be thinking along these lines in a couple of days.) - burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had about between 19 and 21 at times as well.
...and I think the most I've ever gone without sleep is...thirty..... eight? - Exvitel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1rcube, Sorry, I don't really play games and my computer can't handle that. :P Just get more people to vote for me
- pgtourdotnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm pretty sure he'll pass out before anything serious would occur. (I woke up at 6:30AM and I want to goto bed now :( )
