- CrazyEddie041, on 07/16/2009, -0/+19Wow, first delicious macaroni and cheese, and now marrow transplants? What CAN'T Kraft do?
- noodles314, on 07/16/2009, -0/+18The name "Marrow Miner" is a good start, but I don't think it's bed-wettingly, dream-hauntingly terrifying enough yet.
It needs to be something that really sticks with its vict...errr... patients. - CrazyEddie041, on 07/16/2009, -0/+12Marrow Mauler

- jon0tan, on 07/16/2009, -0/+6Better than the "swiss-cheesy" alternative.
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -1/+7 Dr.s don't always bother giving a local. If you ever get this done, demand to be knocked out as I've heard the pain is astounding.
- D14852001neko, on 07/16/2009, -0/+5Medicine student here; hope you never have to be in that position, but if by any chance you get to be a bone marrow donor, you will wish you took his advice to heart, lol, it is quite painful!
- pazimzadeh, on 07/16/2009, -0/+5I don't like that term "harvest." Let's say "collect" instead...
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+5I gotta say thats allot better than the "lets drive a stake into his hip bone 200+ time"
This is a great tech' that will save thousands. - LuckyScofield, on 07/16/2009, -0/+4It's good to see some innovation in this area. Next up Spinal Taps...
- gtrob, on 07/16/2009, -0/+4This is going to be a big hit in the zombie demographic.
- ophello, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3...does this mean my hip is gonna collapse when they dig out the inside of it?
- FlyItAgainKites, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3Fun Fact- They have cured AIDs with bone marrow transplants... bone marrow transplantation used to kill 30% of patients and this might make it a bit safer...

WITH THE MARROW MINER SIMPLY DRILL THROUGH THE SAME HOLE EACH AND EVERY TIME. THE PATENTED FLEXIBLE DRILL BIT ALLOWS YOU TO FOLLOW THE CURVE OF YOUR BONES AND HARVEST 10 TIMES MORE BONE MARROW THAN CONVENTIONAL METHODS.

Oh it will hurt, and you will feel it for weeks to come, not a crippling pain, but you will remember it; have you ever done a huge amount of exercise, and the next day you can barely move your arms, and every move you do, hurts like a bitch? Well, its that kind of feeling, not thaaaaaaaat much, but it feels as if you ran a marathon, and it feels.
And the procedure itself? Get general anaesthesia before seeing the needle they are going to use, its creepy as hell! - ELee, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3FYI - Daniel Kraft is chair of the "Medicine, Neuroscience & Human Enhancement" track at Singularity University, currently going on at NASA Ames.

- soil, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2TED has great appeal to the painfully marrow-mined.
- Supawantastic, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2I'm a blood cancer survivor (no transplant yet) and have had the procedure done to help diagnose my particular flavor of Leukemia.
yeah. it hurts. i was only stuck about three times. i'm young-ish (35) and my bones are still pretty dense so it took a few extra times to get 'er done. i was awake but they do numb the area and give you a sedative. it goes into your hip bone from the back. it kinda feels like somebody is pulling all the blood out of your foot up through your leg into your hip. mostly hard pressure and burning. it only hurt for an hour or so and even the entry point was pretty much 100% after a few days.
the worst part is signing the paper that there is a 1 in 100 change of some paralysis. - blackinthmiddle, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2@D14852001neko
See, this makes me question whether or not I should do it. Just yesterday, I saw an article about donating bone marrow and the fact that minorities almost never donate. So I figure, ok, I'm a black guy and I should donate. So I go to the main website and when it came to the question of "does it hurt", I can't get a straight answer. If it's going to hurt for a few hours, fine. If it's going to hurt me for a few weeks...I guess it's worth it but damn. - shoyurx, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1Maybe he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express Last night.
- cfuse, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1Graft vs. host can be worse than AIDS - they don't cure AIDS, it just dies before you do.
- Whatasillyhat, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1Is there an option to "save" instead?
- blackinthmiddle, on 07/16/2009, -1/+2Go back to ytmnd!
- DeusGear, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1Err no? Bone is a pretty solid structure but blood is also produced within it. Draining blood out of it will not do anything structure wise.
