- Coercer43, on 07/12/2009, -1/+24The title is misleading. Surgical glues have been used for years. Really, all the article says is that they're trying to improve the technology...which is sort of a no-brainer for any technology.
- DiggMikeS, on 07/12/2009, -1/+18Billy Mays here for Mighty Putty!
- centran, on 07/12/2009, -1/+18you are doing it wrong. remember to use your billy mays key...

MIGHTY MENDIT SURGICAL GLUE HAS YOU COVERED - PotbellyJoe, on 07/12/2009, -0/+12Umm.. What do you think 2-octyl cyanoacrylate is already being used for?
- DaltonZ, on 07/12/2009, -0/+10They don't use surgical glue for large incisions.
- ElectroOverlord, on 07/12/2009, -0/+10My son just had a very nasty cut above his eye sealed with dermabond. Stitches were not a good option due to the site of the cut and not a scar left for me to poke fun of him at. As stated above...this is not new.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+8It's called superglue.
Seriously, the stuff they use in medical adhesives is just a little more strictly controlled. Its all the same stuff though (cyanoacrylate) - immatellyouwhat, on 07/12/2009, -1/+9I am stuck on Surgical Glues, because Surgical Glues are stuck on me!
- ihavetop, on 07/12/2009, -0/+8premium fapping lube
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6I SECOND THIS MAN'S MOTION TO RENAME THE "CAPS LOCK" KEY THE "BILLY MAYS" KEY IN MEMORY OF BILLY!
- akchrs, on 07/12/2009, -1/+7Scars are tattoo's for cool people. Punch him again and gets some stitches.
- silverchrysalis, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6sticking my fingers together when i build model ships, why?
- MikeyMoose, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5"Superglue" solutions work in an OR, but this stuff is fantastic in the field:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuikClot
You can glue a wound up in the field, but the patient will bleed out internally unless you can stop it at the source. - Phrea, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5I've been glueing small cuts etc with normal superglue/crazy glue for years, does the trick every time.
- ElectroOverlord, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Well actually...that is what happened. Except he was in a tub and is only 19 Month old. Mom's grip slipped, he tripped and then the blood dripped.
- anonymousmedic, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Quickclot isn't a glue. It's technically high tech cauterization. The old stuff used to cause wicked 2nd and Third Degree burns when applied to the area. The new stuff is packaged in such a way that it works as a dressing and reduces the heat, basically forming a plug.
There;s some new stuff that actually turns to a sticky gel gauze and physically plugs the wound. I can't think what the name is though. - paross2, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3fuel additive?
chemistry nerd... - edstate, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Bending the strings sometimes separates the nail from the finger...
- kenlaw, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Developed for the military and it has saved many lives. You can buy some on Amazon if you are interested. It is pretty inexpensive.
- paross2, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Don't be that jackass that messes with someone when they pass out.
- MikeyMoose, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2"Quickclot isn't a glue" <- that's my point... FWIW, for a major, life threatening trauma, I would take the burn over bleeding out any day... Hey - it will kill bacteria and cauterize as a bonus...
- Livewire, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2everyone read that in the debbie downer voice
- edstate, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2What everyone else said: superglue.
I use it to glue my fingernails to my fingers so I can play my guitar longer :P - Animan351, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1I'm referring directly to the brand "Krazy Glue" you sarcastic *****. Other brands I've used haven't worked as well. Hence I called it Krazy glue with a K for their spelling and not just super glue.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1glue seals. Wow, Digg is getting bored tonight.
- joculator, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2Old news, heard about it 20 years ago.
- GeekNurse, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1In high school we had a no blood or no play rule. You couldn't be on the field if you had an active bleed. If you needed to get back on the gridiron quick we had a few tubes of crazy glue in the first aid kit. A squirt of glue and a firm pinch of the skin for 25 seconds and you were back on the field.
- kenlaw, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1That was the one of original use for Super Glue or Cyanoacrylates.
- DirtPile, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2I bet you go to parties all the time and hang with the ladies.
- jennagen, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1agree..ive seen footage of a similar product used on the heart..
and didnt like seeing a beating pig heart stabbed repeatedly.. - woodrail, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1I recently hit myself in the face with a flatbar and split my upper lip open pretty good. Held it together with superglue. It sorta flaked and peeled after a couple of days so I'd dab on a little more - after 10 days I stopped dabbing it. It healed well. Not a bad scar. Used plain ol superglue from the hardware store.
The fumes tho - don't let them get in your eyes or nose - burns - lex0nyc, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2Superglue was discovered when the US government was researching a battlefield medical alternative to stitches, prior to WWII. Be careful, common household superglue itself is too toxic to apply to an open wound. It is not a viable replacement for stitches.
- lex0nyc, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1It was old news when you heard about it.
BTW, this spray foam bandage technique was demonstrated in a fight scene in "Serenity." - Khast, on 07/12/2009, -1/+1Super Glue was originally designed as "battlefield stitches"... An improvement would be awesome, but it has been around for at least 40 years, so it's nothing new.
- djdisconess, on 07/12/2009, -0/+0I'm sure someone could spill their guts with a batch of rusty staples :D
- gkiltz, on 07/12/2009, -0/+0It would be nice to see them really be able to move past stitches in the real world. All 4 times in my life that I've had stitches,.I had more problems, and more pain with the stitch holes after the stitches came out than with the cut itself!
- paross2, on 07/12/2009, -2/+2gross. use a pic.
- Myztry, on 07/12/2009, -1/+1It's not a title. It's a subject line which they use correctly by disclosing the subject at hand. The descriptor then describes the relevant point of the subject.
Titles are just names that often bear no relevance to the content at all. Transformers for example are commonly devices used to convert properties of electric and have nothing to do with artistic title about robots. - Kaegro, on 07/12/2009, -2/+2***** surgical MIT crap. Superglue is all you need, just ask Ol' Dr. Steve-O-.
- srs2000, on 07/12/2009, -2/+1This is a much better product.

Woundstat.
It'll stop a femoral artery from bleeding you dead. It gives you time to get to a surgeon.
Just FYI... They have a video demonstration on that site.... While it is impressive.. I wish I hadn't watched them cut the pigs femoral artery and the blood gushing with every heart beat... - Presbyterian, on 07/12/2009, -1/+0Why would you need to glue your fingernails?.
- MikeyMoose, on 07/12/2009, -2/+1Do you READ the comments before you post?
- richi9432, on 07/12/2009, -2/+0Old news. Already more abrupt technologies.
- Animan351, on 07/12/2009, -3/+1Anyone else use Krazy Glue to close up their cuts? I've been doing it for about 15 years now and it always works for me.
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/12/2009, -5/+2I'm kinda hesitant given that I suppose you could have someone spill half their guts over the couch three days after discharge due to a bad batch of glue.
- cyanideisfun, on 07/12/2009, -6/+2Surgical glues available to the public would forever change the face of jokes to play on passed out drunks.
- Presbyterian, on 07/12/2009, -6/+0And I'm sure he just fell and hurt himself, right....
