- FishRHuman2, on 11/03/2007, -0/+41I'm trying to, I just can't come up with any.
- Ender008, on 10/10/2007, -0/+34"And see, when I hit it, it won't move...ow wait it got in my eye."
XD - CapeKid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31My guess is that it pierces right through the material. It looks like it is designed to disburse blunt impacts.
- gheide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27Contact sports will never be the same...
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27D30 is made from melted-down 3DOs.
- shadus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24So they found a rubber based product with the same properties as water and cornstarch? :P Go go non-newtonian fluids.
- redrock34, on 11/03/2007, -2/+24Hit him in the face!
- Slyer, on 11/03/2007, -0/+20Wonder what happens when you shoot it?
- Laton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Yet ironically, your footballers wear huge amounts of armour.
- Slyer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I thought that as well, it's not going to stop knives but it will certainly help against the bluntest object of them all, the ground.
- keozen, on 11/03/2007, -0/+18I can't wait to see movie fight scenes when stuntmen and actors alike start using this inlaid into costumes so that they can do some more realistic stuff.
- chsbrgr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17who's up for some human pinball? we'll get some big fat suits and go play in traffic!
- peterk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16That stuff would definitively make interesting boxing gloves.
- Mudger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15I fondled this stuff at NextFest in Los Angeles; crazy *****.
- bobertf, on 10/19/2007, -0/+13I think this uses the same concepts as liquid body armour, which can stop bullets and knives. I doubt the sports-grade version is designed with that in mind, however.
- thepain353, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16think of the porn possibilities
- iancgi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13you sir are a moron
- MiDri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Ahhh, ground! So we meet again.
- paulgibson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11with or without the super foam? :)
- sargentr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8probably only a matter of time before they can develop this to handle extremely high velocity piercing forces. would make fantastic body armor. nice and flexible. though something like that would be many years away, if at all possible.
- johnsmith3210, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I like the fact you used the word "fondled". LOL
- glenneroo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7as in finally able to be mass produced, marketed and sold to the general public, unlike 99% of new tech that comes out on digg, which only work on a micro scale, in a laboratory, under special circumstances, temperature, and alignment of the moon, mars and pluto to function properly.
- potifar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7"Revolutionary new" as in "a few years old".

Sorry, I'm struggling with that. - CaptainAm3rica, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6I gotta get me some of this for those wooden samurai sword fights I have with my friend...
- PAStheLoD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5If you put this under a kevlar sheet (that gets the bullet), then this superfoam disperses the pressure from the force of the impact on the kevlar.. and that's almost like superman :)
- grenden, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I don't know how many of you know of Sean Kennedy the ***** Man and rantradio.com, but when he got hit in the head with the shovel, I was expecting to hear a much louder PANG!! than that.
- AnotherBrian, on 10/19/2007, -0/+4Not necessarily. These kind of fluids can be designed with different properties like how much shock it requires to harden. In fact I would guess that a fluid designed to stop a bullet would be very flexible normally but the kind that stops a punch or shovel would be more viscous. The real benefit will be from layering different formulations along with Kevlar or other materials that withstand tension.
- DeFex, on 10/19/2007, -0/+4put some on your knees before they come to collect on your sub-prime
- TrevorBelmont, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I hope you made that up so diggers will hit eachother with shovels.
- Smills, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Try one, then the other and compare the results.
- FishRHuman2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4You can just imagine wars in the future. "Run! Some crazy invincible orange snowmen warriors are coming!"
- MiDri, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3ding ding ding! We have a winner!
- chingy1788, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Saiyan Armor anyone?
- TrevorBelmont, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I thought that was going the "news gone wrong" route. Fortunately, the product was so cool that I wasn't disappointed.
- zadadka, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5"Don't try this at home for God's sake..."
- mattb5, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3How much longer could the Three Stooges have performed if they had this?
- gropo, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3One would think a relatively thin layer of Kevlar would be all that's needed, just enough inertia-dampening to prevent a bullet from punching a hole through the non-Newtonian fluid as it rigidifies. It would also act to spread the load across the fluid surface.
- glenneroo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3why write anything at all if you're just going to follow it up with digg me down? Low self-esteem? Perhaps you should see a psychologist, or look into Buddhism...
- smackafiyah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Straight out of Demolition Man
- WolfDog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2you can do the same thing with cornflour and water
- randomperson123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*BAM*
-"You alright?"
-"Yeah" *collapses* - thesmrt12004, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i was expecting a full strength blow to the head
- feoren, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2I'm pretty sure getting shot while wearing kevlar still leaves a pretty bad bruise. This foam might reduce that.
- quaxon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2yea just like how in rugby they really try not to hit each other "as hard"
- GvnMcCld, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
- ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And it's the guy with the pot leaf for an icon. Legalize it!
- Corvidae, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Without the armor they won't hit each other as hard. With the armor, they go all out, so when there is an injury you get the scary stuff that makes ya wince.
- smrekar, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1When you assume people have forgot how to enjoy life because they don't play with ooblek, then you're _________(Adjective).
Mad Libs above shows I am not old and can still have fun. - ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Is this the same stuff from that (probably fake) Japanese egg demo on digg a while back?
