- ideadude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is the first time I've read something Kevin Rose dugg which didn't already have a comment... and only 16 diggs so far! It's been 16 hours since this was submitted. Is this article really that boring?
RE TFA: The experiment which was done sounds pretty cool. Although anyone who's had their mouth water at the thought of some food delicacy will say that the results are obvious. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So... my brain needs a lube? Wait... what?
- bobbitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is nothing new, watch a kid about to eat broccoli to see this in effect...
- thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When Your Brain Anticipates Taste, you begin salivating...
- gh3tto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My brain shifts gears for sex. They must have studied a bunch of fatties.
- SanityDreams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Am I crazy, or wasn't there another study just like this that was done at a different school? They had bitter in cups with a "-", less bitter in cups with a "0-", neutral in "0", etc....
Like I say, I may be crazy, but I'm pretty sure this was JUST done somewhere else. *shrugs* Dugg anyway. It IS interesting to see how expectations override the brain's presets. - OregonTrail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah this happens ever time i go near hot sauce, mmmmm..
- smcgrath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So is this the brain's anti-lock brakes for food?
- tek1024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've tried to talk up sushi to people who haven't ever had it before, in this same way ... one girl I dated wasn't really fond of fish at all, but when I explained to her how sushi is made, and how it's "food-art" and all the other kinds of stuff, it's now her favorite food. (We have long since parted ways, but I hear she's doing well, and keeping her local sushi pub in business.)

Take candle scent testing for instance, you could label the same candle 10 different things and people would smell it and go "yeah that IS what it smells like".
- mm242099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This study is incomplete, all it does is test whether something is desirable or not, completely subjective. They should do a survey asking the participants if they like different types of drinks, coke, 7-up, iced-T, lemonade, etc. The place the desirable drinks in different containers, i.e. iced-T in a coke can. I garantee you they won't think it tastes like bad coke, it's gonna taste like crap.
- Marfanity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What a coincidence! Yesterday, as I was about to bite into a lemon, I noticed that I could taste it before it touched my tongue. Not only did my mouth water, but I could distinctly taste the sourness.
- Orangutan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ oregontrail hey, mine too!
- ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How many times have you picked up a glass of apple juice, expecting iced tea or vice versa? One helluva shocker!
