- orlyfactor, on 07/01/2008, -9/+27The closer we get to Bush's last day, the happier people feel. Coincidence? I think not.

How can this be true when the American right wing assures us that European socialism makes people unhappy? - jetblackz4, on 07/01/2008, -3/+11If you're happy and you know it clap your hands !

- arjie, on 07/01/2008, -2/+5Good news, I want more of it. Also, apparently money _can_ buy happiness but only so much of it, at which point: ""The results clearly show that the happiest societies are those that allow people the freedom to choose how to live their lives". Interesting, so maybe all those anti-gay activists, all those racists and other bigots should just lay off. They're probably unhappy themselves, too.

- MattyDienhoff, on 07/01/2008, -1/+3On the "can money buy happiness" question: I've always felt that while wealth isn't the sole ingredient of happiness, it's an enabling factor. I mean, who can be happy if their children are starving to death in front of them and there's nothing they can do about it because there are no jobs?
So, in my opinion: the ability to make a living and, therefore, make money, enables happiness, but doesn't guarantee it. - ZenMojo, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Happiness peaks far, far faster than economic security. Either the global economic downturn is causing happiness, or happiness is causing the economic downturn.

There are 30 million in the Republic of the Congo who live on less than 50 cents a day. We have recently butchered, or maimed hundreds of thousands of people in Iraq, leaving countless others grieving and in shock. Many of those killed were children. the point being this sort of SOCIAL MISERY, encompasses a huge demographic of people on a planetary scale.
