- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32And that is where my tin foil hats come into play.
- Skab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14WAY off subject of this story, i understand that digg is a tech site, ok. I'm getting sick of people reporting stories as lame, getting them buried for no other reason than they feel digg should be this way or that way. The reason for me saying this is the situation of the link to the Stephen Colbert press dinner, that has over 1900+ diggs, 300 comments, and was buried for some reason.
Right after this story was put up another story got to the front page and buried as well, about the jizz supersoaker or whatever, that is a littlebit more understandable why it got pulled to me, but i wish that like we have a system of + or - stories, comments and so forth, could whoever is responsible for removing these stories, at least give us the reason. Something like a (buried reason lame, troll war, so something at least.
Sorry for going on about this, but i need to say it, because the stephen colbert dinner party was nice, yes, tech related, not really, but still dugg this ***** out of. All I'm asking for is a reason why, because i think wether you like this comment or not, we can all agree i hope that the press dinner and a jizz shooting supersoaker are two totally different subjects that shouldnt be group together as buried without an explantion.
Or hell have a sister site of digg for all the buried stories, ones that get removed, some fourm at least . - 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11And your colleagues at the institute called you a fool! ;)

Before we know it, they'll be able to change our thoughts into what they want us to think. - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You sound suspiciously like a thought criminal to me...
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it might crash =/

Courtesey of 1984 - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah... but would it run Linux?
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4what's wrong with wearing that funny looking hat?
- kiwimonk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It will be great when they can shrink the technology down.. so we can continue the testing on mice. instead of humans!

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I wonder what something like this would show on the brain of a genius like einstein?
- liquidcoooled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wheres the ghostbusters when you need them?
This thing looks like the contraption Louis Tully wears when Eagon sees the dog image.

- ChiKoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey... I know I might've had a word or two with Winston and we may have exchanged some glances across the lunch table, but I love Big Brother! I swear! Lol.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2++good, I say
- tidejwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Of course it is theoretically possible to be able to read your thoughts by using something like this. For example, if they continually monitored an individual for an extended period of time (months, years, etc) they could see how their individual brain reacts everytime they hear the word "TREE" or everytime they see a "CAT" it will always perform a certain function. By monitoring this, an algorhythm could hypothetically be created to automatically monitor these things and "translate" what they are likely thinking based on previous thoughts in certain situations (kind of like how Google translator currently works with different languages). This is REALLY amazing. Only something like a tin-foil hat would really work to block out the light so they couldn't monitor you!
Just amazing to think about the possibilities something like this could offer...and scary! I've always been interested in wanting to run such experiments to see how accurate they could be by monitoring a certain subject. Obviously you couldn't suddenly know what a new subject is thinking because everyone codes different things differently in their memory and executes things differently in the brain. Nevertheless it is an amazing possibility! I wonder if this could also be used to automatically encode/log your dreams. - brainScan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, this technique can't read your thoughts... it doesn't have the spatial resolution. This technique can determine brain REGIONS that become more or less active, because the light reflects differently as activity changes. However, it can't see an individual neuron becoming more or less active. Therefore, the activity detected by EROS for hearing "CAT" versus hearing "TREE" would be very similar, since they're both words, they're both concrete, living objects, etc. When we can see every neuron in language processing areas, then maybe we can read your thoughts. Until then, recycle your tin foil.
- ohmar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Didnt the Doc try this in "Back to the Future"? I dont remember it working for him then, and i dont imagine it working now.
- sheesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this guy saying light can pass through opaque objects? Why do all this brain-scan BS when he can just use this technique to create an "x-ray" that can see through opaque objects?
In other words: where's James Randi when you need him? - redeyesofnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i find it curious to realize that EROS (the name of the system) is greek (or is it hebrew, i can't recall) for sexual love
- squeevey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1EXACTLY!
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So where does one sign up to be a guinea pig for this thing?

- Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4If they have enough access to your head to install THAT thing, I don't think a tinfoil hat of any description is going to help.
By that point, you're probably thoroughly screwed. - jiaminn212, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0so does a psychic
