- Burns, on 10/12/2007, -10/+44Pres. Bush has announced that Iceland is harboring some of the worlds largest catapults, If wepons inspectors are not allowed in it looks like things could heat up soon...
- Genius16, on 10/12/2007, -10/+30i blame this on terrorism! im a sheep! baa!
really though. it wouldnt amaze me someone actually believing forces such as terrorism were behind these mysterious ice chunks. - liquidcoooled, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Terrorists bah!
I blame this on kids with a roof based slingshot (watch Malcolm in the middle) - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I can:
Step 1: Sudden fear
Step 2: Splitting headache
Step 3: Not alive anymore. - Inferny, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21so global warming is caused by falling blocks of ice now?
Prehaps you mean that they are trying to blame this on global warming.. lol - cbdgr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15http://img.viacomlocalnetworks.com/images_sizedimage_104065950/lg

ice chunks fall from the sky
WOW - how nice of digg, it automatically gave my urls file name captions - mahler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11This is probably some pranksters with an ice-mortar
- jmullman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11South Pole, moron. Penguins are at the South Pole.
- MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11My Theory:
Some redneck on the outside of town got bored and built himself one of those big air cannons, you know, the kind they use in the desert to launch pumkins. He made some ice cubes in a big freezer then launched then bitches in the air and straight into town.
As odd as that sounds, its the most logical theory so far. - dhmlco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9If one were to RTFAs, you would learn that the ice is clear, fresh water, and not blue or... yellow.
- tarun88, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects_of_global_warming
Global Warming can cause increased instances of extreme weather, temporary drop in temperature and longer temperature drops in areas around the Atlantic. - willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Bah! it the Illuminati using the HARP thingy in Alaska.
They're controlling it from the secret cia moon base built with the money saved while faking the moon landing. - briansalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Reason #101 of why your parents were wrong and staying inside is a good thing:
Being bludgeoned in the head by falling ice... that's right kids, it's not just rain anymore...
Still, I can't believe a chunk of ice that large could form in a cloud fast enough before it decended to the ground... - Alaerus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I, for one, welcome our new falling ice overlords.
- cbdgr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9i want images ger
- soretito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I found hilarious the relation between the article and the advertising on the side:
http://img56.imageshack.us/my.php?image=idelandair5tf.jpg - sugarbearcsa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8San Bernardino County is not in the SF area...... Its about 400 miles south of San francisco.
- tmcpheeters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I love how the ad on the side of the page is for "Iceland Air" I think this is just a big marketing scheme to try and get people to visit Iceland..
- orbitalleader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5We now know that diggers don't read the article:
The incident took place in the San Bernardino County town of Loma Linda.
That's about 400 miles SOUTH of San Francisco. - mistshadow2k4, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11No. This phenomenon has been reported for a couple of centuries now -- apparently I'm the only Digg-user who has heard of it. Now, before you think I'm one of those people who denies global warming, I'm not. But I don't think it's causing this.
As I said at the last ice-from-the-sly article, do a search on "skyfall ice unexplained phenomena" and you'll find a list of different times and places this has happened. This is a known phenomena in the world of unexplained phenomena and nothing new. - mickoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Apocalypse is near!! The planet will be destroy by huge chunk of ice!
- GMFreak8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4See what driving hybrids does to the environment!!
I kid.... - martron3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You're all wrong!
What happened was, God was making himself a "Scotch on the rocks" and accidently dropped an ice cube! - sTiVo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is exactly what I was thinking while I was reading the article. There's a "pumikin chunker" in SF.
- Nanobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It would do you some good to read the actual article, since it clearly explained why this isn't the case.
- SIDSI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ice that big does not build up on airplanes. Ice builds mostly on the wings in thin sheats because of the fuel tanks. If ice that big were to form on a plane it would change the airflow to much and cause major problems. Also Jets do not get rid of latrine waste while in the air. There is a tank that collects it and when on the ground it gets sucked out by a truck much like a campers toilet.
- Jonty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It is NOT waste disposal. Both articles were clear about this. It was clear.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@sky - RTFA (read the f'ing article)
- Sezneg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Global warming is the new catch all theory. You can blame anything you don't understand on it. More hurricanes, less hurricanes, even global cooling can be blamed on global warming!
- Legion303, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"Lol! They are trying to blame global warming on this."
People who understood the article know the scientist in question who co-authored the paper on global warming causing ice formation thinks this case came from a plane, lole!!@ - schokie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For more info on falling ice chunks, check out http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=506 . They're called Megacryometeors.
- neurokaotix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Pres. Bush has announced that Iceland is harboring some of the worlds largest catapults"
Isn't Greenland the icey one and Iceland is the green one? - MWWLSE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've never seen it very bad on a commercial jet (Boeing, Airbus), but on a Gulfstream V we had big chunks of ice hanging off parts of the wing, never anything the size of a microwave, but I still wouldn't want to get hit by a bowling ball sized chunk.
- thefirelane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Its sad that you haven't read enough about this to know events like this were recorded *before* the invention of airplanes.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3F*ck Bush....I blame Micro$oft!
- Rhaegal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I dare someone to lick it...
- Nanobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Remember, it plowed through a roof. I think we'd better head for a bomb shelter. Do you guys still have your Y2K supplies on hand?
- veneric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its from meteor. the rock burns up, vapor trails freeze back to large chunks in upper atmosphere than boom.
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6"Man you liberals have got to focus your blame game."
And you conservatives need to come up with better mantras than an O'Reilly tagline. - Noize, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Someone playing with Trebuchets i say :P
- Kahnza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You people oviously don't understand sarcasm
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They're my killer snowballs!
- MacBigot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is not exactly a new phenomenon...
Rev. 16:21 And huge hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, *came down from heaven upon men; and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, because its plague *was extremely severe. - Smooph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4These ice chunks are from an airplane. Condensation build-up from a leak and/or de-pressurized point that lets the warm air surface through the hull. Remember it's sub-zero temperatures at 30K feet. It's only a matter of time before an airliner discovers the faulty plane in their fleet.
It's sad how the media will exploit anything these days for global warming. - Kahnza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Could these chunks of ice be a precursor this?
http://digg.com/science/Earth_to_be_hit_by_comet_on_May_25 - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2inferny - both statements sound equally absurd.
- Kethinov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And it didn't form in a cloud.
- Rhaegal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, make that a triple-dog dare
- Wheemer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it's about time we start to listen to the ranting and raving of Chicken Little.
