ADHD indeed. - inspecality, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16With all those sensors on me I couldn't help but NOT wander.
- LeeSoong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Not a new topic, really. Buddhist meta meditation teaches you how to focus your attention where you want it to be.
Mindfulness - Focused Attention - can be learned.

Once you study how to better control your own mind, you can achieve so much more in life, and be happier too! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20"A Wendy's worker's mind wanders resulting the death of a kid and it is a felony."
OK, link please, what are you referencing here? - inspecality, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Lemme guess, you guys all float around 3.7 - 4.0 GPA too. We truly are kings of the castle.
- yhan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+940%? I'de evaluate myself "mind-wandering" no less than 90% of the time!
- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9i recommend this free book about insight meditation.. it's called "mindfulness in plain english"

now if only i can get through half an exercise without getting distracted - etnu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I agree. I read recently that many doctors estimate as high as 40% of the population could be diagnosed with what we call ADHD. Sorry, but when 40% of the population has some "disease", we call that "normal".
- aoe2bug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Engineering exam for me, yet.. here i am..

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I eagerly anticipate the large amounts of people that will come pouring into this thread looking to score with the oh so original "my mind wandered by while reading the article about wadering minds!" joke... (sigh) if only they'd read the comments before them...
- npsken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So were the Scientists distracted during this study?
- poppa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Is it me or is the blonde on the left semi-hot?
- spearce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@pegisys
you obviously do not have ADHD. Good for you. I can't even explain to you how difficult it is for me to concentrate without the meds. I can only assume that the way i feel while I'm on the meds is how you must feel all the time. I wish I was so lucky. - humperdeath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Ha, good one, AndrewDBarker! I saw a cat out side my house just today, it wasn't mine though, because my cat is orange color. I like oranges, but sometimes they are hard to peel, and some have seeds, like watermelon, which I like too except that it makes a mess. But when the nurse comes in to clean up, then I get a bath too! I like that, she's pretty. Her name is Rose and she comes Mondays and Thursdays. My son goes to daycare everyday, want to see his picture? O- wait, I think he's in the car...
- jerr0328, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wonder if it's linked to procrastination. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I read this
- Clbck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Heh. English test for me...And the GPA estimate is right on the money.
We rock. - SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm so glad I'm not alone.
- stuman77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@khyberkitsune
No offense, but I'm gonna trust someone who has spent years studying the workings of the mind (i.e. psychiatrist/psychologist) over s drunk stoner at the moment. ADHD is a very real disorder, although I think many people have a misconception of what being 'attention deficit' is. It doesn't simply mean your mind 'wanders', it's an inability to focus attention where necessary, even for short periods of time. For example, open a word processor with speech-to-text enabled, boost the mic as loud as it can go, then turn on the TV, stereo, blast music from your computer, and have a conversation on speaker phone, all so the mic can hear. Turn on the 'overwrite' function, then repeatedly hit 'home'. The that comes out on the screen is kinda like how thoughts are in an ADD mind. - SarahC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can always keep my mind totally foc...
Ooooooooo - shiny! - Sunsetter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The irony of course is, most people are being distracted from their work while reading this.
- jbrickman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2digg is the ultimate procrastination/distraction feed
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2THE NEW EXCUSE IN COURT
my mind wandered - yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Someday, such research may turn up ways to help students keep their focus on textbooks and lectures, and drivers to keep their minds on the road. It may reveal ways to reap payoffs from the habit."
It's funny how scientists always think all knowledge comes from research alone. I mean, um.. guys ever heard of Mindfulness or Awareness practice? It's been practiced in Asia for more than 2,500 years and right on your door step the past 50 years or so.
I do it myself and it's changed my whole life. It's amazing and kinda sad how most of us spend much of our life's 'switched off'. - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Reminds me of Indiana's tourism campaign awhile back:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=wander+indiana+tourism+%22license+plate - ArnoldLayne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, you don't know *****. Please cite some actual sources about the overprescription of Ritalin. The kind of rampant use people talk about is a myth. Your attitude, and presumably you aren't a MD, is just hurting kids with actual mental health issues. I think you should leave this issue to the medical field and stop flaunting your ignorance.
- OdinsFury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If my mind wandered only 40% of the time I'd be in pretty good shape.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nevertheless, I should be writing an Spanish essay and studying for my History test, but I'm here all the same.
- Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It will be on my Desktop for a month before I remember to read it, and the chances of it getting deleted by then are high.
- Swateke, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Yes indeed. Nicely said. Everybody has a sympton of everything. People meet up for one criteria of adhd, and they think that everybody is full of *****.
Brain scans have proven the existence of adhd. But that was overkill, my every day life is enough. - soul12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my mind wanders too much.. i have to tell myself outloud to focus focus diplodocus
- Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have three essays due, a test tomorrow, a chapter to read, 5 hours of chemistry (AT LEAST!) due within the week... eh I'll do it tomorrow.
/DUGG - MrPlug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1id say i wander up to 95% of the time, its really bad, even during people's conversations i wander, totally sucking in next to nothing. How can i fix this?
- Coppertop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll admit it. I couldn't finish the article. My mind wandered.
(no joke) - garbs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's procrastination, not mind-wandering
