- 96EK4, on 11/09/2008, -2/+131Okay, the LHC has already started up (albeit in a minor testing phase), broken, turned off, and now they're working towards fixing it and turning it on again. Did you just find out about this thing?
- dbhalla, on 11/09/2008, -1/+60its like reading the past.
- uiguy3, on 11/09/2008, -1/+60Don't even click on the link the entire article is in the Title and caption.
- glinsvad, on 11/09/2008, -0/+46I'm sorry to burst your bubble like this, but these pictures were taken before the leak which delayed the LHC power up by roughly 8 months...
Proof: The text of image 12 reads "The first attempt to send particles all the way round the collider will take place on September 10, with the first beam collision by the end of 2008" - ahjkl67435, on 11/09/2008, -0/+20but not until spring
- andypop481, on 11/09/2008, -1/+21did I go back in time? I understand redigging articles because not everyone has seen them. but this is like seeing an article speculating on the outcome of the presidential election.
- theaverageidiot, on 11/09/2008, -0/+16That's what she said.
- isny, on 11/09/2008, -1/+16It would have been working sooner if they had just rerouted the power through the main deflector shields.

- xGeneric, on 11/09/2008, -2/+8Heh you registered to Digg on Jan 1st 2008, and you just found out about the LHC today? News about it has been plastered all over Digg this year, especially around the end of the summer.
It's like the Barack Obama of Science. - SteveIsTheDude, on 11/09/2008, -0/+5Like your Mom?
- TitaniumWarrior, on 11/09/2008, -1/+6Yes, but can it divide by zero?

- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -1/+5I was wondering the same thing.
Sucks to be us for relying on social news from ***** RETARDS. - wontstoptalking, on 11/09/2008, -0/+4No, it was actually an accident. I was in the wrong tab- I thought I was in the "PSP is Sony's Future" digg story tab, and I typed this comment:
"Hey, fellow diggers! Since we're on this topic, wanna help a fellow digger out?
I've had this old PSP for almost two years. And I only have a few games games for it (the best is that Namco collection, and no other ones are fun). I've never fully charged the battery, and I've not played it for more than half an hour.
Because I haven't been able to find any good games for it! At first I used it primarily as an internet browser, but then came the iPhone and now it's useless to me.
Are there any really, really good games that anyone can suggest, or maybe a fan-based linux run firmware that makes it better, like just about every other device out there?
I just don't want my expensive machine sitting in my drawer and gathering dust."
I quickly realized my mistake, and with 9 seconds left to edit my comment, I used that time to try and stop my mistake. But it was too late. Sorry was all I could manage.
So, yeah, sorry. - Blooey, on 11/09/2008, -1/+4Oh ****. It IS a Time Machine.
- Tartooob, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3Who the hell is digging this old stupid story ? zzzzzzzzzzz digg
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -2/+5I kind of hope the whole calling it the "Large Hardon Collider" joke is dead by now.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3Don't cross the streams.

- breadfred, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3Please don't comment-hijack
- xGeneric, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3lol Grunge, I just replied to your other comment, then I saw this one.
What's worse than digg's comment system messing up from time to time, is people posting the same thing twice warning against posting the same thing twice. - rheaume, on 11/09/2008, -1/+4if the balls touch, we all die
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3must be some kind of 'black hole' effect
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3Maybe there was a leak in the Colliders stasis field and the submitter was unaware of what happened?
- geoman2k, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3in joe haldeman's forever peace they build one of these in a ring around Jupiter. its awesome.
- mastermemorex, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2Next time will it roar or will it bang?
- Versh, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2And here I thought Feinberg reinterpretation principle (which states that a negative-energy tachyon sent back in time in an attempt to violate causality can always be reinterpreted as a positive-energy tachyon traveling forward in time) would prevent this sort of thing.
Then again, you may be right-- this alternative history started when the LHC initialized... hopefully it only effects the internet for now. - diggit08, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2They should have fired that sucker up at full speed when they had the chance. This thing has turned into a white elephant.
- Spoomeister, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Whoa, deja vu.
The LHC must already be online and leaking some sort of particles into the atmosphere, distorting time itself, so that we don't know it's already on. - SteveIsTheDude, on 11/09/2008, -1/+3I bet McRage will win.
- Torx, on 11/09/2008, -1/+3In before the lock.. oh wait..
- ElAmo, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2so are these equally impossible obstacles?
- TheHim, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2What a ***** hole Digg has become, same OFN every three pages because the diggers didn't have the time to look back a few pages. This is outdated and therefor inaccurate, as someone already pointed out. Barack Obama might be running for President...
- EbenieRosa, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2Wow, if you think that's crazy some people think the LHC could destroy the world, we actually discuss that at http://www.lhcconcerns.com
- xeomage, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2"Now witness the power of this fully operational atom smasher!" /Palpatine
- AltF3, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2The LHC didn't break, it just created a black hole that created a parallel dimension where it did break.
- osukwm, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2Looks like the inside of the Death Star.
- carpeclunes, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2"That thing is operational!"
- xGeneric, on 11/09/2008, -1/+2Seriously, Grunge? I'm not supposed to click the 'Save Reply' Button twice? Would three times have worked?
...I hit save reply, it didn't post my comment, but said "done" at the bottom of the page. Figuring it messed up, I copied what I wrote, refreshed the article, *did not* see my comment at all, so I hit paste and posted. It posted my comment, and I only saw one copy, so not sure what went on with diggs comments.
But, no, no you're right, you shouldn't hit it twice. I'll hit the 'Save Reply' button four times next time, that should do the trick, right? - cgrado, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1are you kidding me? This is an OLLLLD article from before it started up for the first time... way to resubmit. When are people going to learn not to post old articles?
- FatherWolfWood, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Make anyone else think of the Death Star?
