"It can be extremely difficult to defend against this sort of accusation. Therefore, those who make it are duty-bound to offer supporting details."

http://logicalscience.blogspot.com/2006/10/if-i-wanted-to-kill-off-climate.html - mikeman10001, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Yea really, I live in Canada.. and I would rather not die from the white house trying to postpone this.
- tpaine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23There are still people who believe that man's influence in global warming is a myth?? You astound me! I can't believe people are still buying into the propaganda put out lobbyists with a vested interest in pollution.
- luaplevap, on 10/12/2007, -10/+28Your moral ethics are great and all, but I'd rather not die because of global warming. Sometimes you have to shut up and be proactive.
- jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22Myth? What else does Exxon say, genius?
- jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -13/+26What oil company do you work for...or were you just taught to obey your master's wishes?
- tpaine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12except that never before has the earth seen such a dramatic rise in temperature and CO2 levels. Yes climate change is natural. The idea that dramatic never before climate change on the heels of our industrial revolution have no correlation is the pipe dream of corrupt politicians.
- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Yeah it's all so depressing, just continue to ignore it and you can be ignorant, it's so much easier that way.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Is there anything your current administration won't do?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Funny, seems like conservatives are always bitching that liberals don't take responsibility for their actions. Then something like global warming pops up, and suddenly it's all "We're not responsible!" Really, it seems like lately, everywhere I turn nobody seems to be willing to take any responsibility for anything. And I don't mean that as a dig against either conservatives or liberals, just saying it seems to be a problem of people in general. What happened to this country?
- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Some could say these truths were perhaps inconvenient.
- oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Please read the article before commenting. The title is not completely accurate (and when are titles every completely accurate?)
His findings were altered/kept quiet and his supervisor denied a reporter access to him (which might be his right, but he later resigned because of this). Congress questioned the employee 8 months ago and THAT is how this story was dissimenated(sp?) to the public. - Optimus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Taking responsibility for your actions sucks, doesn't it? Welcome to real world 101.
- mikeman10001, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9@robojerk
LOL! so... your taking Homer Simpson's advice. "Trying is the first step to failure." - polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Fear mongering serves no purpose."
War on Terrorism anyone? - polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"being proactive just because you are afraid of dying just proves how human nature is selfish."
Ummmmm War on Terrorism anyone? - starmanjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4>>"but I'd rather not die because of global warming."
>being proactive just because you are afraid of
>dying just proves how human nature is selfish.
so i guess you're telling him that its selfish of him to worry about dying... because the president of the country to the south of him bought into fringe economic theories about global climate change... ignoring the overwhelming evidence and the all but unanamous warnings of humankinds most learned climate specialists?
humm... - Hubris, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Federal agencies about to find themselves muzzled too?
- schnitzi, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12>Not more global warming crap...
Yeah, how can we go about supressing these stories from appearing on digg? There must be someone we can bribe, threaten, or blackmail... - bromac, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Just because you can't notice distinct changes in your local environment doesn't mean other (more observant) people don't.
I grew up in the Yukon. There were no deer in the Yukon, except for a population in the far far south of 50 whole animals. But, as the winters are becoming milder, the deer can break through the snowpack that would have otherwise been frozen hard and reach grasses underneath. Their range now includes most of the Yukon, and they're found at least 600km more north.
Now you might not think that seeing deer where they weren't before wouldn't be a big deal, but with deer come cougars. Now, when I'm home in the Yukon, I have to worry about cougars that weren't there before.
And that doesn't say anything about the permafrost that is melting under buildings and roadways and shifting everything about, not to mention ***** with the general ecology.
Maybe you need to get out of rainy Seattle and see a few other climes, 'cause a cozy city rat like you is for damn sure not experiencing the full effect of what's going on yet. Don't worry though, it'll come soon enough.
/Location Location Location - robojerk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6That's like saying Cigarette companies should pay for you kids education because they're evil and you don't want to pay for it. I think we should invest in alternative energies, just the way that bill proposes to do it is retarded.
- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8As you probably have heard but chose to ignore, Troll, global warming is NET warming OVER THE ENTIRE EARTH, local climate will shift and become more changable but may not necessarily exhibit warming exclusively. Not all things are a simple as you apparently are.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Their agenda is to help you not die, and help your descendants have a better life.
Personally, I'm ok with that agenda. I'm curious as to why you have a problem with it? - schroeder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Global warming is a real threat with many factors working. One of which is the Asian Brown Cloud:
http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/environment/brown_cloud.html
Still for some reason certain people are turning a blind eye towards the facts. I really don't get it. It's a big problem, a global problem. I don't see how people see this as a partisan issue, it's a global issue that every country has to do their part to control. There are already numerous scientific papers that prove it's happening. Even if you don't believe it's the work of man causing warming, at least let the scientists research the problem and report their findings. - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Lead honestly and openly and allow democracy, diplomacy, and the law to rule.
- espek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5"Scientists Say White House Muzzled Them, the Senate ***** them, and the House of Representatives Watched and Masturbated."......that would have beeen a better headline.
- dimitrisokolov, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8
People are still alive? According to the "scientists" we're supposed to all be dead already from the various ***** I've heard over the past 40 years including 1) The Next Ice Age 2) Over population 3) AIDS 4) Kuwaiti Oil Fires 5) Bird Flu 6) Global Warming or is it 7) Global Dimming 8) Maybe an asteriod or how about 9) The Yellowstone Supervolcano
Every few years there's something comes out that is supposed to kill us all, but doesn't.
Global warming is just the latest nonsense. We know the Earth is warming, sure. But it is totally within the known cycles of planet earth, so to say that humans are the direct cause is absurd. Sure we obviously have an impact, but no one drove SUVs millions of years ago when were were going through Ice Age cycles.
Be careful of "scientists" and "experts" because they have their agends just like everyone else. - polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"A lot of the hype to support prop87 is just out of anger that the oil companies make so much money"
Are you high? Anger? You think it were all just mad because we have to buy gas?
Grow up. - brishchik, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7I am not surprised at all, don't expect too much from an administration that has or had oil agents as science adviser or vice-president.
- flink405, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11If they were "muzzled" why do we know about this? How is it their story is getting out if they can“t talk about it?
And how many people work on a project (in govt or private) that is "censored", ashcanned, ended? Lots. - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8gotta love it. shut up the scientists up who are trying to save the planet, but the flying spaghetti monster needs to be taught in schools.
- blogger1947, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Private funding would be done by (for example) drug companies, George Soros, Theresa Heinz. I hardly think that would "buy" objectivity.
I must really have hit a nerve. Never had an entry dugg-down so deeply. Thanks for all the attention, people... - melfster, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Dude I rather pay more for viable alternative to gas. Its not just about global warming. I'd rather not pay EVIL oil companys. If you want to pay half your paycheck go right ahead but I want alternative.
- charlie55, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5well said dimitri. politicians and the government always tend to offer up distaster scenarios that we need them to save us from. if there are no disasters to protect us from, lots of people would have no purpose, and they cant have that, they need to justify their existence.
of all the things you mentioned, the only one i even slightly believe is flu, i think a flu pandemic is possible, but i could have been tricked by the scare merchants. - robojerk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5A lot of the hype to support prop87 is just out of anger that the oil companies make so much money. The average person only cares about their wallet and view this prop as a way to get vengeance. I live in California and every prop in the last 10 years have all been scams. Every proposition that comes out only about 10% of the promised money ever reaches to it's advertised destination. Where the rest know you'd have to ask our Democrat controlled state congress. I hate the bill because it's a waste of time and money.
- cramtod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is not surprising. There has been a documented ideological slant against scientific research for years.
For example, the 104th Congress (1995) failed to appropriate funding Office of Technology Assessment, a nonpartisan analytical agency whose goal was to assist Congress with the complex and highly technical issues that increasingly affect our society. The OTA had been providing this service to Congress for 23 years.
The 104th Congress voted not to appropriate $18.6 million for the OTA. H.AMDT.450 to H.R.1854 was defeated 214 to 213 [202 Republicans against.]
Considering the service provided by the OTA, $18.6 million was a bargain. Instead, the Republican congress choose in the future to rely on partisan think tanks and corporate sponsored research when it came to decisions about science and technology. - AICWebmaster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Of course bush muzzled scientists. As the chief flunkie for the Saudis and big oil, what else would you expect. They paid their money, they own him and he damn well is going to do their bidding.
- blogger1947, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why didn't you just read the synopsis at the top and move on? Thank YOU.
- blogger1947, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dimitri, anyone who thinks scientists are "objective" has never worked in the field, or spoken to someone who has to chase grant money to put bread on the table. Every last one of them has an agenda--staying employed.
- blogger1947, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, and I hear that he also kicks his dog.
- luaplevap, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9I don't want to start a philosophical discussion, but generally not dying isn't considered being selfish. It's not like I'm hurting anyone else by not dying due to pollution they caused...
- robojerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0deleted
- lswinney2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is "politics", not "General Sciences". Just another category hijacking in order to bypass the filters and spread leftest propaganda. Good example of your total lack of character, jasonprussell.
- robojerk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@polyGone
I don't understand your rant. They're a company, pure and simple and the point of a company is to make money.. No one makes you buy gas since you don't necessarily need to own a car. If you think the government should step in and regulate the prices of gasoline then vote for that, however most of the price of gas is refining it to emission regulations.
Prop 87 is to research solar and wind power alternatives for electricity, where is the connection to your car and gas prices? Stupid proposition promoted by corrupt politicians. - Nation, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"Wrong Topic" -- this is not science, this is politics. There is no way around it. This should not be in "General Science".
- stevelh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"and insisting that a Web designer insert the word "theory" with any mention of the Big Bang."
I didnt know that anyone had actually proved the Big Bang happened..? - KingMoses, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Wasn't this on the "Tips for Spotting Junk Science" article a while back? Claims that someone is trying to suppress the research?
Remember, everybody, you're always the most vulnerable to falling for something that's wrong when you really *want* to believe in it. I'm not saying I think Global Warming's complete bull, but I don't trust that *****' Al Gore. - Mrkamikaze, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Uranium enrichment in Iran anyone? Nuke test in NK anyone? Look up the definition of clueless and you will find your name there.
- opinionist, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5I've been saying for years ... Bush has betrayed the human race and his global domination cabal are working for a reptilian race hell-bent on our destruction and their colonisation of a warm wet planet! :-)
Of course the oil industry are in on it too! AND the people from the Peoples Republic of CHINA!
Remember; I told you all! ;-)
