- MrBabyMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29Loved that novel, and the movie they made from it, "Charly". Hopefully this doesn't have the aftereffects the drug in the novel did.
- nixonrichard, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17"Remember to put flowers on Algernon's grave." That book was so goddamn sad.
- epyon180, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Damn, The mice get all the good treatment.
- NgrHader, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24We can finally cure the internet!
- jackhole, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Before it was either a book or a movie, it was a short story. That's the superior version.
- Waterrat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 I didn't read the short story, but I felt the novel was far better than eithor versonon of the movie.
The part of the movie i found that was so stupid is how Algernon escaped onto a table and everyone went nuts, than in an instant,he was somewhere else.
Why anyone would be afraid of a domesticated mouse is a mystery to me.
- Waterrat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 I didn't read the short story, but I felt the novel was far better than eithor versonon of the movie.
- tony4moroney, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3sweet.. if only they could cure bush 7 years ago...
- Eccohawk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4It really does amaze me how every single story on digg can be twisted into something political....
- shadus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1It's only a matter of time until cyberjobe rules over us all, and as his birthing cry he'll make every phone on earth ring...
- nixonrichard, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17"Remember to put flowers on Algernon's grave." That book was so goddamn sad.

- GhostCow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Listen to yourselves! Does everything have to be partisan *****? Wake the ***** up!
- slicedoranges, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15We can fix their sense of humor too.
- AllenS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Yes, we can do that with a high velocity metal projectile aimed at their head.
- GlenLeafJr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If Republicans are better than Democrats at anything, it's shooting.
- AllenS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Yes, we can do that with a high velocity metal projectile aimed at their head.
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -8/+6I was thinking we'd have a cure for liberalism but decided to it was too immature and retarded to post.
- wannabenomad, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6good thing you didn't..?
- bsmang, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Unless Bush is a liberal democrat, it's definitely the republicans who need the cure.
- Ricky8765, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Then again there was Kerry and his retarded smile...
- GlenLeafJr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Maybe we can cure the Gay's too!!!

(Why science discussion is dead on the Internet)
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -14/+3HUHUHUHU. You're so clever! No one has EVER posted anything like that to a science article before! You're a genius!
- laterthandawn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27that's gotta be like waking up from the longest, strangest overnight drunk..."what a strange dream i just had..." and i wonder if the mice miss it in retrospect.
on that note...kirk cameron, there's still hope! - ericdano, on 10/11/2007, -12/+6Wow, Diggers might have a chance now!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Brave new missiles.
- jmp478, on 10/11/2007, -1/+43I didn't know mice could be mentally retarded. How could you tell anyways?
- adamrgolf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+33they talk like gerbils
- moofer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23They can't pronounce the word "nuclear"
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8There's various tests to how quickly they learn and adapt to situations.
- TehdBerg, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Error, I'm going to have to digg you down for a serious, rational reply.
- HairyFotr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2They also test theyre grammarz. But this test is more commonly used to determine cat retardation.
A good indicator of retardation is also how the animal is looks at you.
Here is an excelent example:

- vuthy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Very cool, though any kind of animal experimentation makes me kinda sad (like how they actually MADE the mice retarded first). Then again, I'm sure that somehow, someway I'm reaping the benefits of a animal experimentation, so I can't really complain, can I?
- RonPaulPres2008, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Exactly. It's sad but necessary... as is stem cell research (sigh).
When will that ***** pick up already!- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1What are you talking about? There's tons of stem cell research going on right now. Try reading something other than digg.

- SaintStryfe, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4THey did this to about 30% of America between 2004 and 2006. It was called the war in Iraq.
- copa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I have a feeling Australia was involved in this.
Also Algernon Volume 2 Full Throttle. - GorfTron, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Hey science! Quit curing mouse diseases and work on humans!! Jeeze!!
- abdrahman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Most scientists would love to extend their work to humans; you know, if there were not: ethical concerns, the FDA, potential lawsuits should things go wrong, etc.
of course, without these hassles, we would have a few extra Dr. Mengeles in the world. - droversoul, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sign me up for cyborg tests. I want me some robot arms.
"mmmplease..sit..on..my..face" - Jagershot, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2You can't be serious, can you? Testing mice is only the first step in a long process that results in testing on humans.
- Shambla, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's those damn mouse lobbyists
- abdrahman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Most scientists would love to extend their work to humans; you know, if there were not: ethical concerns, the FDA, potential lawsuits should things go wrong, etc.
- xinli11, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2I'd be really impressed if they can do the same for IT managers.

- sabach, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This only affects one specific condition, there are dozens of different causes of MR, many of which are poorly understood. It is however an important breakthrough.
- munee23, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Now they got to reverse Alzheimer's.
- MrGoodEyes, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0So you're saying that my little buddy running around in the wheel to death has a chance?
and how did they know to pick the mice with mental retardation in the first place?
"that mouse is so stupid, look, he's not even a chef like ratatooie... - darny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Mental Retardation, huh...now that's descriptive!
- keyguy242, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2GREAT cause I know some hot retarded girls that I'd like to get with. Could you imagine snapping out of being retarded and finding out you were ***** RETARDED?!?!

- tmanaussie, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Bottle Label
Prescribed Medication For : Bush, W. George
General Practitioner : Dr C Sense
Dosage : Frequently
Warnings : May kill subject. Do not abruptly stop medication - innocent countries depend on this - may cause hallucinations of WMD in *any* given country. - motheroftwo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Interesting article. To bad Chris Benoit, the WWE wrestler didn't have more information about this fragile X syndrome and a support system for the frustrations he must have felt. Anyone with a child who is mentally challenged must have a tough life to live.
- break99, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Great news. Millions of religious fundamentalists to go. (and please hurry...)
- hydroplane, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If it only worked on myspace users.........

- meuserj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is awesome. My brother has fragile X syndrome.. if this can't be applied to him, hopefully it will prevent people from suffering of this in the future.
Go Science! - benlindelof, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Grats!
- bshock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Forget mice -- can they reverse mental retardation with U.S. presidents?
- Jagershot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Way to repeat the same joke everyone else made!
- viviwanu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Is George W Bush a mouse?

- iChaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0pretty cool breakthrough.
and thanks to "moral standards" and religious fundamentalists (wtf are those anyways), it'll never be able to reach helping humans. - BrokenWind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1sounds like a Mickey-mouse operation to me.........
- Ricemanstm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Hmm...wonder if they can cure Democrats? Or even politicians in general?
- wishninja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Worthless maybe they could try on republicans.
- simplejoe79, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1nice....that means hope still lingers for Bush :p..
