- 3tcp, on 07/06/2009, -0/+32So you could just say that they were made by 'people', right?
- lemur, on 07/06/2009, -1/+19There is actually no scientific way to prove that the hands are male or female... this is just a bunch of conjecture. For all we know, male artists stood there and directed women where to place their hands while the artist worked on the murals.
Here are a two key things to consider:
Sexism in language: English has words like "man", "mankind", "caveman", and "cavemen" which appear to be gendered nouns but are not. These words use "man" and "men" to refer to humanity, which includes men and women. Assuming that the artists in question are male because they are referred to as "caveMEN" is ignorant and I can't believe it serves as the basis of what this article sets to "disprove." Not only is there no such theory that all the artists were male, but they failed to disprove the nonexistent theory! Talk about a time waster.
Men and women are just as likely to create art, and we must assume that the cave murals in question could have been made by men, women, or both. That is pretty much the beginning and end of the debate, and it doesn't even matter which gender produced it anyway. - sexybobo, on 07/06/2009, -2/+19I though cavemen was a generic title for every one living in that era.
I didn't think any one was stupid enough to think that saying cavemen did there drawing meant that only men did the drawings. - dystra, on 07/06/2009, -1/+10midget
- KarenRice, on 07/06/2009, -5/+13My life will NEVER be the same - thank GOD someone broke this story! Hallelujah! Feminism lives!
/snark - RafishAsh, on 07/06/2009, -3/+8Well this was before the invention of the modern kitchen so it makes sense.
- pe5t1lence, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4Thank you captain obvious!
- Takfam, on 07/06/2009, -1/+5Empowered cavewomen are breaking the volcanic-glass ceiling!
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -2/+6Retarded Feminazi's would probably think that.. cos of the whole retard thing they go for..
- GorfTron, on 07/06/2009, -1/+4I bet the men who did the art were early homosexuals. They were trying to depict the brutality of hunting to the cavemen.
- cdwarrior14, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2We had this discussion in my French Culture course in college a while back. I was one of the only males in the room and it was nearly impossible for me to explain that the term "cave men" was implying both male and females. It's like saying "people." No one is trying to be sexist by using that term. It is a false point and argument. Does the author of this article or the scientists who wasted thousands of taxpayer dollars realize this?
- ultraseamus, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2I believe the PC term is: huwoman.
- widgetmaker, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Am I the only one who read the title and thought it was an Onion title (not that the Daily Mail is that different)
- Jikul, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2It's not like they hadn't enough free time... with all the Internets, television and *****...
- JohnEHubertz, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Yes - and the end of "might makes (and gives a man) rights" is upon us.
Thank all that is.
Here's the truth - and real art, the art of the sympathetic soul that has values - female AND male, to nurture:

I call it "click here for miracle" mindblowing. - JohnEHubertz, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1The pc term is actually "when the world made sense"
The male-dominated society of modern civilization is now crumbling - finally. 6000 years of ***** and war are sufficient.
We must have both natures, with the feminine HUNGER to nurture dominant as it was in primitive societies. Men create, but they create with an addictive hunger to succeed - and the world cries out in pain. - redwolfwalker, on 07/06/2009, -7/+8Art is so basic, perhaps many of you can still remember tracing your hand with crayons in elementary school.
- Volath, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1It is. Man is the abbreviation for human and the masculine form is default like all the other European languages. You only use the feminine form of the words when specifically wanting to point that the person or people you are referring to are female. Wo-man, s-he, his-her(s).
- cdwarrior14, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1No. My last out-of-major class before graduation. It was the only thing left!
- Eurynom0s, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I know. I was livid when I went to see the new Star Trek movie and ****spoilers, I guess****
****they changed the "where no man has gone before" to "where no one has gone before"!!!!! WTF! They had Nimoy do it and it was great but then they went and butchered it, it's a classic line, you don't get to butcher it because some people are stupid! - lex0nyc, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Oh, they're out there. They're out there.
- 3tcp, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1"We had this discussion in my French Culture course in college a while back."
Oh God, poor guy. Are you masochistic or something? - littlelindsay, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1The feminist argument is that to use "man" (as opposed to "woman") as a generic term is to favor men. "Man" is a gendered term because it used to describe males. It's a bit frivolous if you ask me, but a valid point no less.
This article is not using "cave men" in the generic sense, but rather addressing the fact that in the art community, there is a general attitude that males have historically been the most active artists, even in a prehistoric context.
Anyways, the article is a bit silly anyways- the subject matter is clearly more relevant to people who are interested in art history on an academic level but it's written in a popularized way, thus making it less interesting for all prospective audiences. - sharique98000, on 07/06/2009, -1/+1hi what is this i thing lion or any one hands
- snagglefoof, on 07/06/2009, -1/+1redwolfwalker's title sounds like an Onion article.

- SlamDunkGirl, on 07/06/2009, -1/+1*Insert sexist comment here*
- partysan, on 07/06/2009, -2/+1Yeah, maybe painted the kitchen.
- syphern, on 07/06/2009, -2/+1Its a lie, women cant draw... GO COOK!
- johnnall, on 07/06/2009, -3/+2Right but since scientists said it, it must be true. I mean it's not like religion where you believe stuff with no proof....I mean scientists said it so there's your proof.
- gbudavid, on 07/06/2009, -7/+4Pretty Handy;))
- teamquentin, on 07/06/2009, -4/+1As well as men? Well, that's debatable.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -4/+0Nobody cared about their painting of a cave cat hanging in there
