- Skooma714, on 11/26/2007, -0/+17There is a bird who likes to smack into my sliding glass door every other morning around 7.
It's looks like it's the same one everytime too, I'm thinking of letting it in for tea. - colincornaby, on 11/26/2007, -3/+12Pffff. Science tries to explain everything. The answer in reality it simple. God sends angels to help the birds and show them the way. And yes, I am fully in favor of this being taught in schools instead of this science psycho babble.
- speezer, on 11/26/2007, -1/+8Too bad they can't see windmills, speeding cars or really clean glass. Mirrors confuse them too.
- Cowfrommars, on 11/26/2007, -0/+7How long were you waiting for the chance to post that comment?
- TrainingName, on 11/26/2007, -2/+9Flying south?
Doesn't that have something to do with their wings? - maxinux, on 11/26/2007, -0/+5I wish science can explain why 10+ birds ***** every day only on my car and not on the 30+ nearby cars in the car park!!!!
- BagginsBoy, on 11/26/2007, -0/+4"Genes likely provide an innate impulse to fly south or north"
- indyGuy, on 11/26/2007, -1/+5Never would've imagined that they could SEE magnetism...
- AriaStar, on 11/26/2007, -1/+3But how do they know to fly toward it?
- Markpdotcom, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Apparently it is to do with the colour of your car. They don't like white cars. I read an article about it a long time ago, google isn't finding any results, so you'll have to trust my brain on this one! (I hope I didn't dream this!)
- inactive, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2 It does indeed...
I see no reason to call what birds do a" inexplicable miracle."
Just cause you don't understand why something happens does not make it a miracle.
- LogicBomB, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2For those that don't know, bird have actually been seen perverting their flight path, even going out of their way, to follow highways instead of direct paths (magnatism).
Other birds have been seen immitating cell phones to try and appear more matable in heavy cell-phone laden areas. - inactive, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1Is it a WHITE car?
I read birds enjoy dumping on white cars. - abbott75, on 11/26/2007, -1/+2I hear they're good roasted.
- reeder, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1The spinal column in all vertebrates contain magnetized materials that allow them/us to align ourselves with the magnetic field of the earth. In fact, modern spinal evolutionary theory states that the spine evolved from the magnetic properties within early invertebrates, consisting of an elongated strip of magnetic materials along the center of mass.
- krisscofield, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1I knew someone beat me to it at 3:39 AM. Not but half a scroll wheel roll down, did I manage to find it. Sad :(
- inactive, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1 You didn't dream it.
- inactive, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1 Actually, they can see these things, but they just did not evolve to deal with something moving as fast as these do, so they get hit.
As to clean glass, the see a reflection of the sky and don't know it's glass, they have no concept of what glass is,as they also did not evolve to deal with it.
As to mirrors, yeah, the little males do think they are seeing another male and can't understand why he won't get the *** away! - truthiness, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Misleading title. The article simply states that another experiment tends to support a decades old theory. Nothing really new here, but still somewhat interesting.
- hfactor, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Saves energy. Ever seen a bicycle race?
- HBNDonut, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1And why in a V formation?
- sockpuppets, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1Carma.
- JoelBakan01, on 11/26/2007, -0/+0They are attracted to it.
- sup34dog, on 11/26/2007, -3/+2Assassin's Creed has been lying to me :(
- m0rsu, on 11/26/2007, -1/+0The same way as they fly North.
- m0rsu, on 11/26/2007, -1/+0Probably they dislike the color of your car.
